We will be visiting in early December with 4 small children, and plan on decorating our rooms for Christmas. I am thinking a small tree, some window clings, maybe a couple of towels, place mats, some holiday plug in scents, cookies, and hot chocolate. What does anyone else out there do? Any pictures to get in the mood?

We bought a bunch of things from the dollar store and then just left them.
Also brought lights and did the Christmas tree exchange ::yes::

Dollar Store... Great idea!! I looked at the Christmas exchange, but we are staying at the Grand Floridian the first week in December, and it looks like they only have one tree. They had two, and one never was returned. I think that is what I read. The one tree left has already been spoken for at that time. So, we do have a tiny tree that we will bring. I just want it to be the most spectacular, amazing, beautiful week for my family. I know I am setting myself up here by having such high expectations, but it is our first DVC trip to our home resort, GF. I want it to something we all remember forever. I know I should just go with the "What ever happens will be great." attitude, but I can't help myself. lol. As soon as those Christmas decorations are out at the stores, I am heading there.

We usually have a Christmas stocking for our son. We use a suction cup hook to hang it on the fridge or slider. Every day, Mickey leaves him some prize in the stocking. One of us hangs back and loads the stocking while the rest head to the bus stop. He loves it! We have a few special items, such as Disney plushes, but some days it's just some inexpensive flashy thing from the dollar spot or some snack treat. We also have a small Christmas tree with lights that fits in the suitcase. The window clings are a nice touch.

DVC has said in the past that members can decorate the inside of the villa, but not put anything on the outside or that can be seen from the outside. No tape, no tacks, no nails.

We stayed DVC at AKL last Christmas, and it was REALLY important to me that it feel like Christmas. I bought a pop up tree on Amazon ($69) and had it shipped to our resort. Shipped it back home for about $10-15. It was my kids favorite part of the trip, was decorating for Christmas. I was able to put everything in the one Christmas tree box, ribbons, etc.

So, it sounds like no window clings? Can lights be put around the window from the inside?

When we stayed at BWV for Christmas '13 there were several balcony's with lights on The railings. Not sure if they were plugged in or battery powered. Is there even an outlet on the DVC Balconies?

We go all out for our Christmas trip as well. 5ft tree I use every year that I found at Target in a slim box that I check as luggage with Southwest and we rent a car so it's pretty easy. My extra decorations go in an extra checked bag too. I made an animal print tree skirt with Mickey on it last year because we are at Kidani for this trip usually. We use window clings on the mirrors and fridge, I usually don't bother with the patio doors, because I just leave enough sheer open to see the lights on the tree and little 2ft plastic light up Minnie and Mickey that we put by the tree as well. I also found a magnet Snowman (dollar store) that you put together and that goes on the fridge now too. I use the skinny wire garland that rolls up and just untwine that and wrap it and drape it over things. We have a lot of fun with it, always find something in the parks and resort gift shop to add every year!

I love seeing what everyone puts up, we stayed on the Inn side for many years before DVC never saw a plug on the balcony there. Someone in a Grand Villa at BLT put lights all the way up in the large window last year not sure how they did that either.

We have participated in the Tree Exchange twice but last time it was not available for our dates (Dec 19-27) so we packed some decorations in our carry on and went to Walmart and purchased a very nice 5 foot tree with lights on for $40. It was beautiful as we could see it while sitting in the Hot Tub at VWL. I gave it to another family and where it went after that who knows. Just too expensive to ship it back to Canada.

Will be in dvc 1 br Jambo house december 10-16 if anyone wants to coordinate.

We usually pack a couple of Xmas CD's for any trip around Christmas. I can't remember what is provided in the various rooms or if you can request something, but if you have something to play a CD or DVD then it helps to set the Xmas mood! Enjoy.

We brought some strings of Christmas themed lights (battery operated ones) and hung them around the mirrors & artwork in the room. I also bought a Christmas figurine once we got to WDW and set that up on the dresser. We'll be doing something similar on our next trip over the holidays as bringing a tree is out of the question for us.

Love this idea for something easy to pack! Does the alarm clock have a CD player in it? If so, is that in all resorts?

Thanks!

When we stayed many a Christmas at OKW...we had an owners locker and kept our Christmas lights in there that we always hung from our balcony!!
