I haven't been on a plane since before I had a child. How does it work when you bring a stoller. We are going to be bringing our Maclaren fold up with us on our flights using Southwest. Do we have to check the stroller and count it as a checked bag?

Thanks!

You don't have to check it. Take it to thru the gate with you and right before you board the plane you leave the stroller there and they will put it on the plane and then have it waiting in the same place when you get off the plane.

No it is not counted as luggage. We kept my grand-daughter in her stroller while in the airport and then we gate checked it.
You just go to one of the agents at the gate, they put a tag on the stroller. We pushed the stroller to right before you get to the door to enter the plane and then we collapsed it, and gave it to the agent. They then put it under the plane.
When we got to MCO when we exited the plane all the strollers were there on the ramp waiting for their owners. It worked great.

Please do this while you're waiting at the gate (having arrived at the airport 90 minutes or more prior to departure, as advised by one's specific airport). Please don't wait until boarding starts :teeth:. It's more efficient.

Yes, it is always amazing how many people don't know to go get a tag for the stroller from the gate agent. They really should announce it before boarding.

Actually the last few flights the FA did make annoucements. I listened but not sure if everyone else did.:confused3

Yes, everyone is right! I just called SW to confirm and they told me the same thing that it would have to be gate checked. But, I do have another question. For those that have done this, did your stroller ever get damaged? I've only flown once before and this is my first experience with taking our dd3. I just purchased this stroller for $100 for our WDW trip and am concerned about it getting damaged.

I've gate checked my Maclaren Triumph at least 14 times and never had any damage.

I gate checked my jogging stroller and the tray in front was damaged. Now, I remove any trays attached as well as cupholders etc. The latch was also broken once on my umbrella stroller. Other than that, all was well.
