Bringing a stroller for my 6 year old....How many dirty looks should I expect??

My DD was 4 last year - but she's a BIG four year old (she's not 5 until September but is 45" tall!). I got the occasionaly 'dirty' look when she fell asleep and her head lolled forward but she coped just fine and I don't care less what other people think! ;)

We got dirty looks for our 5 yr old riding in a stroller. I was so glad we had it when he fell asleep every night while we were still in the parks and we didn't have to carry him out to the car.

Lots of older kids are in strollers in the parks, even up to tweens! I don't think anyone really cares. And if they do, they obviously don't have children, or have forgotten a lot. Our DD is 5 1/2 and would definitely need a stroller at DW. Would you rather have dirty looks or a whiny child? Do what you know you need to do and forget about everyone else. Have a great time! :wave2:

LOL..your post made me think that you are more likely to get dirty looks if you have a tired, cranky, whining child in the park vs. a quiet one in a stroller!

We rented a double stroller for 9 yo DS and 2 yo DS- no dirty looks from anyone... :cool1:

I just bought a used Maclaren twin traveller for our dd who just turned 7(today!! :cool1: :flower: ) and my ds who will be 4 July 13th.They are both under the weight limit for the stroller, that's all that matters to me.My ds is high functioning autistic and really needs a place to unwind(he likes to pull the sunshade over him so he's in his own little world),and even if he didn't,I know he'd be very tired by the end of the day,as well as his sister.Gives us a place to store ds's diapers and wipes,as well as water and snacks. It also reclines nicely for naps, which they both will need. :mickeybar

I had a stroller last summer for my DD6 - a tall 6 year old. I did get remarks from one teenaged boy, but my DD was happy and I was happy.

I am planning on renting a double this summer for my DD7 and DS5. They are both tall kids (DD7 is 65 lbs and 53" and DS5 is 46lbs and 48") and I am having trouble finding a stroller (on the inexpensive side since I will only use it for Disney) that they will both fit in.

I would hope any dirty looks you get would be dirty looks of jealousy from parents of kids who are walking around & tired.

Take the stroller. Your whole family will be happier.

Wow, I can't believe people give dirty looks over seeing an older child ride in a stroller. Heck, I would like to be pushed in a stroller by the end of the day, so of course a child would.

Take or rent a stroller for him and have a great time! You know what your child can and can't handle!

You can rent the strollers from the parks and if you switch parks, just take the stroller voucher with you (just pay for one stroller for the day, no matter how many parks you visit in the day, including DTD). No, these strollers do not recline. But you can rent a double and have loads of room to leave your backpack and cooler. Our DD6 slept a LOT in the double stroller when we wree there in April. Not only that, she shared with here DB's (11 & 9) and they had a place to sit during the parades. I received MANY positive comments from parents who had brought their own stroller from home for their toddler and made the older siblings walk. They all replied how they wish they had thought of renting instead of burning their "tushies" on the hot concrete sidewalks! I even sat in it to escape the hot sun and ground during parent swap. It was WELL worth the money!!

Most importantly, in my humble opinion, who cares if people give you dirty looks. That's what the strollers are for. At least you aren't abusing the electric wheelchairs! Just relax and let everyone have fun! Don't worry, you'll be holding your DS plenty wile waiting in the lines (no strollers allowed there!) :cool1:

My friends went in April and their daughter is 6. They loved the stroller because it not only carried their daughter, but a small cooler and anything they didn't want to lug around. I may just push an empty stroller around with all my junk in it...haha. Have fun!

:goodvibes We rented a double stroller for our kids 5 and 7 last year, we didn't get any dirty looks. I knew when I was in line purchasing the rental for the week at 8:30 in the morning and our hair was wet from the humidity that I needed a double! It was worth it! I didn't have to listen to any whining or complaining of tried feet, plus I knew where both my kids were at all times! I didn't have to worry about them wandering off in crowds! Go for it!

I have 3 --ages 7. 8 and 10. we get a stroller. Usually the youngest pushes the 2 older ones! Between that and the bag of extra clothes and snacks I wouldn't do it without a stroller.

My girlfriend told me she got looks last year---SHE was on the Stroller w/ her 2 kids pushing her!!! I told her the looks were from parents who wished they could fit in the stroller.

Go for ti--who cares--your vaca-your family-do what works for you!

Hav Fun :cool1:

We used a double umbrella stroller for our 5 and 7 year old daughters last month for our Disney trip. Not one dirty look. If anything my husband and I patted ourselves on the back for thinking ahead. It was a godsend at the resort, when we wanted to catch a bus quick, when you want to get from attraction to attraction quick, how can you expect kids to walk all day in the heat and move as quick as you want them to. I think if anything it avoided alot of fighting about who would be crying about being tired, and who needed to be held. I feel like if your kid can do all that walking, great! If not, let them enjoy the ride! princess: princess:

I agree- my kids will be 6 and 5 when we go back, and I will be renting a double stroller for them. It makes it easier on me, to be honest...not only to not hear the whining about their legs/feet being tired, but to get from Point A to Point B more quickly when we're in a hurry. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks- do what's best for your family! :)

I would definately get the stroller and who cares if anyone gives you a dirty look they have the problem not you and your son will be rested, comfortable, and happy all day. Anyhow, we were at WDW last month and saw plenty of big kids in strollers and nobody seemed to have a problem with it and the kids were happy. I personally thought in all of my infinite wisdom that my 3 1/2 year old daughter would not need a stroller on this trip so we took one for my son 5 months at the time and figured DD would walk. WRONG!!!! We took turns carrying her for the first two days and after that rented one for her everyday. Believe me everyone had a much better time once we got a stroller for DD, needless to say I will be purchasing a double stroller before our next trip. I figure with DD turning 4 in Sept. and DS 1 in December we will put a ton of miles on it before we ever go strollerless again.

We bought a stroller for DD (6) from Winn Dixie on our arrival this year and will be taking it back next year when she's 7 ;)
A godsend :goodvibes

I don't think it's an accident that the disney strollers are built strong enough to carry small elephants, if necessary-they've realized that all types of kids need strollers, and I defer to Disney's infinite wisdom...

Don't hasitate to get a stroller.I let my DH talk me out of using one for my 6 yr old last April.I think it would have been an easier trip w/ one for her and my DS7.Though they did great and my DS7(weighs 43 lbs at time)did sit in the baby's stroller a little.Just my .02.

If anyone gives you a dirty look, just smile and keep on walking. :flower:
