Bring our Crib?

I would absolutely never think of bringing our crib. Nope.

We requested and got a full size crib at the Contemporary in April. No charge.

The pnp mattress was a game changer for us. I think I paid about $30 for it. The bottom that comes with the pack and play is like cardboard with a tissue on top. I don't know why they don't improve them.

Did you call ahead to request or did you ask when you got there? We are staying at Kidani Village and Bay Lake Towers, I highly doubt I will get it both places so I'm erring on the side of the pack and play. :)

I think this is the route I'm going for to be honest. Last time we were there she slept in her arms reach bassinet (same as at home) which was a reasonable thing to bring. She was so knackered from the day she slept through the night with no issue. If anything her sleep has gotten easier. Scary to disturb routine as a mom, but in the end I'm starting to think the pack and play with the extra mattress is best all around.

we are planning on DD 13 months to fall asleep in her full recline stroller when we are out and just wheeling her in. We'll have the pack n play set up just in case, but doubt she would sleep sound in that. It's too unfamiliar. You should do what you're comfortable with, bring the crib it will be fine. That is not a lot of disassembly. Just think when parents re-use the cribs for their other cribs, it's taken down, put back up, taken down, moved in another room, etc. My DD's crib has metal threads that the screws go into, so there would not be any wearing down. Do what you think will make your vacation run smoothly. Being up all night isn't fun. I tried to get DD to nap in her crib, she was tired enough that she looked around and went to sleep, but she napped 20 minutes and normal time is an hour. It was because she wasn't used to it. Happened the next time we tried to.

That's awesome she will fall asleep in her stroller, ours just learned that trick. :)

To be fair to her though I wear her a lot and it's only recently we've been putting her in her stroller more. When we went to WDW with her last time she was only 6 months old and I think I wore her all day in the parks in 95+ degree weather and ridiculous humidity. We had a stroller, but she just wasn't used to it so it was more of a baby stuff carrier. I am REALLY looking forward to going in December when she will not only be more physically capable, but when the weather will not be so hot and the added warmth of a baby will be welcome.

As far as our crib wearing with disassembly, @Alesia is probably correct in our particular situation. We bought an ikea crib and while it's doing great, far better than I had feared, we all know that ikea furniture is held together with spit and a prayer. We've had to assemble it three times already, initial set up, change rooms and drop mattress and while it's holding up great, it's probably best to not tempt fate. Especially now that I've seen the mattresses you can get for the pack and plays. It's still slightly crazy to bring a mattress, but I'm TOTALLY ok with that level of crazy. :)

Both. I put the request on the reservation but there wasn't one in the room when we arrived so I went down to the front desk and asked again. We got one within 30 minutes of checking in. :)

To all you helpful moms who've commented, is this the mattress you're talking about?

In case that link doesn't show up it's called the Dream On Me Foam Pack and Play Mattress.

Thanks again ladies!! :)

Not sure if the link works but the brand we bought was kolcraft crazy soft portable crib mattress. It fit nicely in the WDW pack n plays. I also bought a fitted sheet for it.

we used
Dream On Me 3" Inner Spring Pack 'n Play Mattress
and it fit perfectly in their graco pack n plays. i was too germophobic to use their pack n play so we brought our own. I bought a suitcase that fit the pack n play and it wasn't oversized. just right at their max size though. that mattress pad though was too small for our fisher price play yard. DD2 didn't mind, but for an infant it wouldn't have been safe. This time we are not getting the mattress b/c i think DD 13 will sleep fine in her stroller or we will bring her bouncey chair that she sleeps in at home. But on our last trip, we ordered that mattress and had it sent to AoA and it was in our room with our cases of water waiting for us! This time at GF, from what i read there will be a charge to getting deliveries so forget it.

When we go for walks DD 11 months has always fallen asleep and napped in her stroller. Then when we get home we wheel her in and sleeps all snug in it for her nap. She'll just love it at Disney, being strolled to sleep. I'll just tuck her blanket around her. If i can figure out the disassembly of her fisher price bouncer chair i'll bring that. it was been the best baby item from day 1, just a light bounce for 1 min and baby is asleep. With my first DD she would only sleep in her fancy swing until about 6-7 months, and then i was anxious to get her to sleep in her crib.. which was terrible. she needed me to hold/walk or nurse her to sleep, then she'd wake up in the crib, cry, stand up, puke, then get nursed, walked, back to bed, waking all night long. God that was aweful. This time i got the bouncer, strap her in, tuck her blankey around her, gently bounce her while hold her hand, and she'd be asleep so quickly and sleep 9-12, sometimes 13 hours. She's 11 months now, and since she started being too busy to nurse long enough during the day, she's waking after only 6 hours.. but hey with my first i was up 3x or more a night, losing my mind, so with this one 6 hours is great. then she does another 6.

I was getting ready to post this exact Same question! We just took a three day trip and my son woke up no fewer than five times a night in the pack and play. I just think it's plain uncomfortable when with cushy sheets and blankets. We are going to be in Disney for ten days and I'm not going to take a chance of us not getting sleep. We will be renting a full size crib, I just need to figure out where. :)

Babies need firm mattresses - that's the safest thing for them. Too soft, and it can actually be dangerous for them. Same reason you shouldn't use crib bumpers, blankets or stuffed animals until baby can roll over by themselves.
I would bring a couple of swaddlers, and a sheet that has your scent on it. Request either a pnp, crib, or bring your own pnp. Confirm the pnp on your reservation because sometimes they may run out. But the pnps at the resorts are serviceable. We live near Disney and never felt the need to bring our own to Disney.
With regards to co-sleeping, we did it too, and it never screwed him up. He just slept between us if he wasn't feeling up to sleeping in the pnp. Don't bring your crib, it will be more trouble than it's worth.

So I did some research on these mattresses and turns out they are considered unsafe and Graco does not recommend the use of any mattress other than their own for safety reasons. We are just gonna go with the pack and play with our own sheets we bring from home and co-sleep if she wakes up crying method. Thanks again for all the advice ladies!!

Please do what makes you feel comfortable - because if you are worrying you won't get sleep anyway! But I just wanted to say that the risk of SIDS is non-existent after 12 months. If you still feel anxious, check with your doctor.

A lot of warnings on baby products are CYA but with your first, it's very easy to be nervous so again please do what you feel comfortable with. But, I can honestly say the ability of our little one to sleep in the pack n play was like night and day with the added mattress.

Thanks @JacknSally The first one REALLY is nerve wracking lol. At the risk of oversharing I developed post partum anxiety after the birth of our daughter which really only makes it worst. I actually didn't even know you could get post partum anxiety, I had only heard of post partum depression but I am learning it's not uncommon. I'm doing SO MUCH better, but I think you're right, I'm sure these mattresses are safe for the OVERWHELMING majority of kids and that the warnings are CYA, but with all the changes and stresses of a multi-generational family vacation, I would probably worry at night and get less sleep which would only make things harder.

Thanks again for all the advice everyone!! :)

our youngest was 11 mos on her first trip and would not sleep! It was awful! I wish we had rented a crib. I remember walking her in the stroller around Caribbean Beach at all hours of the night and early morning- I was exhausted!

Yikes, that sounds horrible!! I'm so sorry! Is she usually a good sleeper? Ours will sleep well if she's cosleeping (except of course last night stupid 8-10 month sleep regression). I did have to wear her down last trip cuz she got so overstimulated but that was just one night.

My daughter wouldn't sleep in a pack and play either. But we went when she was 13 months and packed her pillow and a padded PnP sheet and she slept just fine. She was exhausted every day from the activity. I wouldn't want to take my own crib for fear of housekeeping scratching it up with the vacuum and whatnot, although our crib is white so it marks easy.

I bought a mattress pad that went over the pack n play mattress then put the sheet over that. It made the pack n play much more comfortable. Started when DD was pretty young. We did the same as you, had the pack n play down stairs so if she fell asleep I didn't have to take her upstairs to put her in crib. I lucked out DD slept pretty much anywhere, crib, stroller, car seat, pack n play.

We did this as well -- using a mattress pad instead of getting an entirely new mattress for our Graco pack n play -- once our second son hit 6 months.

Our older son never slept in the pack n play, and it only occurred to us later that it might be because the sleeping surface felt like a hardwood floor.

The mattress pad (American Baby, bought on Amazon) basically just changed the sleeping surface of his pack-n-play from rock-hard cardboard into something more similar to his crib mattress. We use this for naps at his grandparents' house and on any overnight trips. He is now 17 months old, and we'll be taking it on our next trip to Disney in November.

Knock on wood, but I have zero concerns in terms of safety - it fits completely snugly. At 13 months old, I would not be concerned with using a bit softer mattress, either. Obviously, every parent has to make their own judgment on this.
