Bring our Crib?

I realize that the title of this post is a bit ridiculous because frankly, the idea is a bit insane. So, if I know it's insane, why am I posting it? Well, being a parent often makes you feel and do insane things. So... here we go. Has anyone ever disassembled and packed their own crib from home while traveling?

To be clear, our daughter will be 13 months, we are driving and would have more than enough space in our van for it, and we will be there two whole weeks so it's not like it's just for a few days. Still, it just seems a bit nuts.

There is no way. Disassembling and then reassembling a crib makes it less safe (the screw holes strip out, etc.) Doing it twice for no good reason is silly. She'll sleep just fine in a rental crib.

@Alesia Yeah, we have a pack and play and we were trying to use it for naps simply because it was easy to keep in our downstairs office and her crib is upstairs, but she just won't sleep in it.

A baby's best friend has full size cribs for rent. www.abbf.com we have rented a rocking chair from them in the past and are renting a stroller for our upcoming trip. They are very easy to work with!

Honestly though I think naps and bedtime are probably a different story. She will probably be so tired from a day at the parks that she will sleep in the PnP.

If that's he case, wouldn't a rental have been disassembled and reassembled far more times?

I personally wouldn't do it either, but this wouldn't be the reason. I think it would still be plenty sturdy. But DS was not at all attached to his crib (in fact, he hated sleeping in it) and I certainly wouldn't have wanted to put it back together the first exhausted night home!!

But OP, you know your kid. If she reeeeally needs the comfort of her own crib to sleep - so you can sleep - so you can all have a good vacation, it's completely up to you. You have the space, and you will only look silly to a bunch of people you'll never see again.

Is there anything you can do to make the mattress in there as soft as the one in her crib? I don't remember what the recommended age for blankets is now, but I'm sure you could figure out something safe.

Or maybe try it as is in her room? It may be the different light level or different noises in the office, rather than the P&P itself.

My daughter wouldn't sleep in pack n plays either until I got an extra mattress for it. I think it cost about $20 on Amazon and I brought it everywhere we travelled. I would suggest trying that and seeing if it helps. I think that those mats in the pack n play are just not comfortable.

Just another thought - you could always just bring the crib mattress and put it on the floor. If you guys are sleeping in the same room, you would hear if she got up.

That's a really great idea!! Thank you.

Thank you so much for all the fabulous advice! We are gonna get the second pack and play mattress and attempt that. Worst case scenario she will get to sleep with mommy and daddy for two weeks :)

The rental cribs are collapsible frames, no disassembly and reassembly.
Yeah that's what I saw when I looked at them. Actually knowing our little lady she would find some way of getting it undone and get her fingers stuck lol. She is adorable but so michevuous!

I'm sure the rental ones are safe and she would be fine in there. With oldest DS, we used a pack and play and he slept fine in it. Little guy co-slept as he did at home. Both were fine. I would caution you about co-sleeping for two weeks if you don't want to co-sleep once you get back home. older DS mostly slept in his crib as an infant and started co=sleeping a bit later, Little guy never slept in a crib ever. We choose that but if you don't want to continue it ,I would not start it. I would rent a crib, and take your own bedding for it.

Thanks!! I have no problem co sleeping and we do it a lot. She is actually the one who seems to prefer the crib, hence why we considered bringing it :)

I second the pack n play mattress. My daughter wouldn't sleep in her pack n play until we bought one. I would also bring your own sheet. My princess is very particular about that. Eye roll.

we are planning on DD 13 months to fall asleep in her full recline stroller when we are out and just wheeling her in. We'll have the pack n play set up just in case, but doubt she would sleep sound in that. It's too unfamiliar. You should do what you're comfortable with, bring the crib it will be fine. That is not a lot of disassembly. Just think when parents re-use the cribs for their other cribs, it's taken down, put back up, taken down, moved in another room, etc. My DD's crib has metal threads that the screws go into, so there would not be any wearing down. Do what you think will make your vacation run smoothly. Being up all night isn't fun. I tried to get DD to nap in her crib, she was tired enough that she looked around and went to sleep, but she napped 20 minutes and normal time is an hour. It was because she wasn't used to it. Happened the next time we tried to.
