We had dinner at Koozina a couple of weeks ago during their soft opening. The restaurant still looks like Spoodles, but the walls seemed to be bare and definitely in need of some decorating. The restaurant was pretty busy when we were there. Service was a bit shaky, but definitely very friendly. Also, Chef Dee was making the rounds at the tables, providing information on the menu, asking questions and getting feedback.
All in all, we found Koozina to be wonderful with authentic Greek food. My daughter started with the Spanokopeta (spinach pie) which was flavorful and a good size for an appetizer. My husband and I shared the Koozina sampler which consisted of Sesame Lamb Meatballs,Marinated Olives, Spiced Cashews, Dolmades, Tzatziki, Hummus, and Grilled Pita. At $17.99 it was supposed to serve two, but I felt it could use a bit more on the plate. Everything, however, was tasty and well prepared. (Sorry, no pix of the appetizers.
My husband and daughter chose the cinnamon stewed chicken over orzo. I didn't taste this since I don't like chicken, but they both said it was very, very good.
I had the pastitsio (one of my favorites). This did not disappoint. It was a very generous size (I could not finish it) and was as authentic as I've tasted.
We also shared a side of sauteed farmhouse greens
and sauteed brussels sprouts
All in all, we would definitely return. The minor glitches and lack of decoration were chalked up to pre-opening. I think this restaurant will definitely only improve with time. A real keeper!
