Bridgewater State Prison and Lemuel Shattuck Hospital

Does anyone know anything about these 2 places?

Well I can't speak about the prison but I got my LPN at the Shattuck. This was waaaay back in the late 60's though so I'm sure things have changed.

Lordy, back then it was the hospital from Hell. We had to fight for and steal supplies. And the patients weren't like you'd find in most general hospitals. We had an entire floor with Parkinson's patients. They were just starting to do the drug trials on the Dopamine. We also had a floor with only Paraplegics and quadriplegics. I saw things there that I have never seen in any other facility I worked in. What a way to get introduced to nursing!!

The nursing students lived in a building right next to the hospital. We had some great times! It was quite an experience.

Shattuck hospital is where they generally send you when you need mental health care and well as physical health care needs to be addressed at the same time. I believe they do a lot of HIV/AIDS long term services and care as well as have a fairly comprehensive homeless transitional care center/substance abuse treatment program. A friend of mine did a rotation there a few years ago and said it was hell and full of scary deadbeats

Bridgewater State Prison is just that - a state prison. It has a state hospital in the complex for convicts detainees who need court ordered psychiatric care.
