Bridge Collapse

As many of you may already know, there was a terrible bridge collapse in Minn. a few days ago. I just would like your thoughts on this. I know it is really rare something like this will happen but how do you feel going on bridges?

Right now the death toll stands at 5 people, and more people are expected to be found dead.

I would like to give my condolences to all the victims families.

As for bridges I don't mind going over them. My mom on the otherhand HATES to drive over them. Atleast those that are high up in the air.

The death toll is boggling my mind. Thursday morning on CBS they said it was 9 dead. Then thursday afternoon everyone changed it to four. I'm confused.

Anyway, I think it's absolutely horrible how the whole road just fell. Just plopped down on the water/ground. It's just a really weird thing to happen/

The fact that it ever could have happened is irresponsible to me. This bridge, along with 50 or 80 THOUSAND, has been ruled "structurally (sp?) unsound". These bridges need to be fixed NOW. People shouldn't be driving across bridges that are knowingly unsafe.

That was truly terrible. I heard on the news...that a high percent of bridges everywhere are NOT up to code...just like this bridge. We need some major bridge reform, this is tragic and needs to be prevented in other areas.
My heart goes out to the families and victims.

structurally unsound does not mean that they are unsafe to drive on.

or that they could collapse at any moment.

But it means that there is a problem. ANYTHING that could cause deaths should not be structurally unsound.

I think its so sad I'm never afraid to go over bridges, though.. I've heard some people who saw happen or actually survived it (as in were on the bridge) and they all sounded really shaken and upset. Its just so sad.
