Rooms are usually assigned 2-3 days out, so it might be too late. But it definitely won't hurt to try. I would request any of the following:

Martinique 21, 22 or 23
Barbados 14, 15 or 16

Does anyone know how much the upgrade to a preferred room is? I would have to call our agent to find out and he is unavailable right now.

I just called they said bridge is closed August 27- December 25. NO access to Caribbean cay.
Not happy. We leave in 17 days.

This bridge closing wasn't on a refurb list. It seemed kind-of sudden. Especially for those booking across the bridge from OPR in Jamaica and Aruba. I guess a lot of people would have made other resort plans or stayed preferred nearer to OPR if they had known about it.

Does anyone have any info on what is being done with the bridge that it's closed for 4 months?

Ugh! DH & I are staying at CBR in early October. It would have been nice to know about this refurb before we booked our stay MONTHS ago. :(

Thank you to everyone who posted about this. I just called and spoke with a CM, confirmed the refurb, and changed our room requests. :disrocks:

I called and they said to modify my requests I had to speak with the front desk and they transferred me over - weird!! Front desk told me they couldn't help me until 10 days out. I am bummed, this is our first time straying from an old favorite (POR) and we were really looking forward to checking out Caribbean cay and Illuminations from the bridge :( oh well....at least I'll be at Disney!!!

Having the bridge out may play in our favor as many will request room changes to more on the other side of the resort thus leaving the other side not-so-crowded lol :rolleyes1

I called the WDW resort reservation number on the website and had no problems. I called, gave my reservation # and then she read out the original reservation requests I had made (first floor & Jamaica bldg.). She then took down my new request (Martinque & Arubas, mentioned above). My reservation is in October. You should call WDW again.

I thought of that too! But our CBR stay is at the end of our 3 week honeymoon, and we will be doing a lot of walking for 2 1/2 weeks so I didn't want to have to walk farther to the main pool than was necessary... and I'm definitely going to want to enjoy some pool time.

Are you kidding? We'll be there Saturday and I requested Aruba or Jamaica because of the closeness to crossing over. Now we'd have to drive around. How come this wasn't mentioned anywhere previously by Disney? I would have made different requests.

I read on another board about this. Someone chimed in that is currently staying there, that a shuttle BOAT is being used to take people back and forth. They said it is a 5 - 7 minute time frame side to side.

Now that sounds good!

A shuttle boat? Interesting.....

I wonder where the boat is picking people up from on the Jamaica/Aruba side. I'm assuming that they are dropping the people off at the marina.
