Bridge closed at carribean

Has anyone been able to be moved due to this? My sister is due to arrive next week and was looking forward to a lot of time on Caribbean Cay, and has no car and 3 kids. She is considering asking to be moved to another mod (POR?) since she was never told of these refurbs at booking. Any advice?

I read on another board about this. Someone chimed in that is currently staying there, that a shuttle BOAT is being used to take people back and forth. They said it is a 5 - 7 minute time frame side to side.

The idea of a boat shuttle crossed my mind. This makes me very happy :)

Looking forward to my trip in 10 days, bridge or no bridge. Going to keep my request with Jamaica. Sounds like it will be pretty quiet over there.

How far is the walk to the main pool without the bridge?

It depends where you're starting from. But the path that goes around the lake is 1.2 miles. So the absolute farthest you'd have is .6 miles. Every morning my wife and I walk around the lake a couple times and each lap takes about 13-14 minutes at a leisurely pace. So from the farthest point would be about 6-7 minutes.

I called the WDW resort reservation number on the website and had no problems. I called, gave my reservation # and then she read out the original reservation requests I had made (first floor & Jamaica bldg.). She then took down my new request (Martinque & Arubas, mentioned above). My reservation is in October. You should call WDW again.

I know and probably will, it was just so strange! I'd never experienced a call like that....I placed it from my cell using Siri, so maybe I wasn't connected to the main reservation line originally. As I am reading through though, I picked Jamica for two reasons, the cheerful color AND the proximity to the bridge.....so maybe I'll just leave well enough alone and let it go - we spend most of our time at the parks so with multiple bus stops proximity to the main building is not really a big concern.....but I'd rather see tropical and lush landscaping then boarded up zones and construction equipment.

Incidentally.... When you called and spoke with the cast member, did the changes appear in your MDE? I was able to 'modify' our on line check in, but it now shows 3 requests.....I couldn't remove Jamica!! So strange.

Just called up the resort, and the kind Lady on the phone checked the refurbishment plans and told me they have November the 22nd as to when it will be complete.

Of course, that could always change a few days on either side, or if there's complications. We're not staying until December the 14th for only one night, but with so little time we were thinking about switching resorts. Although, with a three week cushion we should be fine.

But, other people have been told the bridge would be closed until December 25 by CM's, including PP's on this thread. I wouldn't count on November 22nd being a firm date.

December 25th seems to be a conservative date, to cover all their bases. Like I said, I called the front desk directly, and the information that had up there said it'd be finished by the 22nd.

I honestly doubt it'd be dragged all the way to Dec 25th, so I'd be cautiously optimistic if you have a december reservation for it being fixed by then.

We are going in September and I called. I have free dining and the only other MOD available for free dining was the cabins at fort wilderness. I got the feeling they would switch me to there is I wanted. I didn't want to stay at the cabins, so I inquired about deluxes. Animal Kingdom was available at an additional charge. The CM tried to get me a free upgrade to AKL, but couldn't do it apparently because I already have free dining. So I paid the difference to move to AKL. I always wanted to stay at AKL anyways, and the bridge being out gave me a good reason to upgrade.

So my sister was told when she called that only half the bridge was closed and that Caribbean Cay will still be open, and that shuttles will be beefed up to run more frequently. I don't have much faith in phone CMs. Can anyone verify that? I just worry as this is her first and likely only trip, and they have a standard room :\.

I just took a walk over by the bridge. From the food court side you can still access the playground area.

There are 2 bridges that serve as a short cut from the villages across the lake over to OPR. One large bridge that connects Jamaica/Aruba to Caribbean Cay and a much, much smaller bridge that connects OPR to Caribbean Cay. They are only working on the large bridge that connects Jamaica/Aruba to Caribbean Cay. You can still access Caribbean Cay from OPR via the small bridge.

I stayed in Barbados the farthest one and it wasn't bad at all. So if you requested one of the closest Barbados, it's right next to Martinique, a preferred.

We always stayed at Aruba because part of the attraction was the walk across the island to to pool, marina, and food court area. Also enjoyed the view across the water. Multiple shuttle buses would not compensate for that loss. But a boat ride? Now that's a thought!

We were just there last week. Yes the main part of the bridge was closed but they still had a path open by the playground and there was still a complete handicap accessible path (although longer) over the bridge area. We stayed in Aruba . Walk was very quick over the bridge. It will be our last time at CBR for other reasons (resort is just too large for our liking, the gave us a handicap room without asking if it was ok with us- and we didnt know until we opened the door to the room- which is a pain to change since the check in building is so far away- and lastly I know silly but the ice machines in the food court were continuously either broken or filling stations were closed off).

BTW to the poster above who joked about doing cardio and swimming over, be careful of the alligators! Yes we saw them (although they are very small!).

Just to be clear (because this will be our first visit to CBR) - you stayed in Aruba and used the walking path near Barbados and Martinique to get to the other side? You were not able to use the bridge, correct?

No- we used the bridge that goes right from aruba/Jamaica to the main pool. Now- I cant guarentee that they didnt close it after we left, but a few days ago while the "main" section of the bridge is closed- you can still cross by walking by the playground on the island area.

So- if you google a map of the resort you will see the island. On the island there is the center path. There are also curvy paths to the left side of the island (with Aruba being at the bottom of the map)/ On those curvy paths is where the playground is. Last week the curvy paths were open- while the "main" path was under construction. So- it was still a very quick walk from Aruba/Jamaica to the main feature pool- over this island area.
