Bridal Shower out of state?

I have a question that I'm hoping someone will be able to help with.

My fiance and I are getting married on Sept. 28th here in Orlando where we live. We had started out having a Disney wedding but then decided against it since we don't have a boatload of money to spend as we just found our dream home and decided to buy it! So instead we will incorporate Disney into the festivities but the ceremony will be held off site.

Aaaanyway! Our entire family lives in upstate NY. Only immediate family will come here to Orlando for the ceremony. My mom is throwing me a bridal shower in NY in early Sept. and we have just registered at BB&Beyond and Linens-n-things. My question is, how do I get all of that stuff back to Florida??! LOL! Do we write on the shower invitations that if something is heavy, have it mailed directly to our home? Do we say giftcards?? And how to you say that so that it doesn't sound weird!? I am just worried that someone is going to buy that great set of stonewear dishes on our registry and then bring it to the shower in NY with them! Yikes!

Any past experience with this?? Or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance everyone!

We had our wedding in Disney and my shower a month before in Rochester, NY. I live in South Fl. Everyone was pretty aware that I had to fly and either shipped ALOT of it before hand or gave me light and easy stuff to bring home (towels, etc). I did bring an extra suitcase thought. I don't think you would have to put it on the invitations, most people are pretty aware of the airport regulations and worse come to worse you could always spread it by word of mouth

HTH

hay ! my bridal shower is this weekend and i am inticipating the gift dilema myself. My mom wanted me too be able to open them at the party so she went againt my idea of having them shipped and just putting a pic of the item in the card. sosos i will let you know what i do. I have already prepared alittle. i packed a small sutcase and then put that inside a bigger one and again into a bigger one. so that on the way home i have two extra suitcases. and then i figured when my famil flies down for the wedding then can pack an extra sitcase each. i dont need the stuff before then anyway so maybe this will help. i am sorry if this post is jumbled i just cant get my thoughts together. i am having a lttle stress today sorry. hope this helps!!

My daughter lives out of state and we had her wedding shower in state. Many of our friends and relatives were great about sending the gifts to her house but had a picture wrapped in a box for her to open at the shower. BTW if any gift arrived before the shower she did not open them. She wanted to be surprised at the shower. We also shipped a huge box of gifts back to her house after the shower.

We are having our wedding at WDW, but we live in NY and my shower is in NJ. ....For items from the shower, it won't be a problem for us transporting it back to NY. But as to anythig that people bring to FL, we are planning on going to UPS or USPS and having everything shipped to us here in NY.

I live in NC but had my shower this spring in Rochester, NY. I registered at BB & B, and took advantage of a registry advantage - you can return anything on your registry for cash or a store credit. A bunch of people gave me cash or gift cards, knowing about the flight limitations, I brought an extra suitcase, and for the rest, we made one stop to BB&B and returned it all for a store credit, then when I got home to NC, I went back to my local store and repurchased it all. It took a little time, but saved me a ton of money in shipping. Plus, I was able to readjust quantities and exchange for similar items taht I'd changed my mind about. It never showed on the registry that anything was returned (so no one would feel bad if they happened to look at the registry for a wedding gift later). If you didn't want to do that with everything, you could just return/rebuy the really heavy/bulky items and try to carry the rest on. I found it to be pretty simple.

My shower is this weekend in NJ. My shower presents are being sent to me through the macy’s website. My mom wrote the poem below to let people know to have the presents shipped since it would be too hard to bring things back on the plane, this has worked out really well for us and it’s very fun to come home from work everyday to presents

Since Rachel and Bob
Live so far away
Don't bring your gifts
On their shower day
Send them down South
To their Charlotte abode
They'll be so thrilled
Not to carry the load
Log onto their website
See their registry there
As well as their photos
For all friends to share

Please go to the dollar store
Sorry for the extra chore
Pick out something cute or wacky
Don't you worry if it's tacky
Wrap it up with paper and bow
So it's contents Rachel won't know
We'll put it in a wishing well
To be opened by our lovely belle

Hello,

I am going to have my Bridal Shower in 3 weeks from now, I didn't go overboard with my bridal registry. I registered at Finest Linens and Things, store in Chicago. I didn't register in more places because we will only invide 180 people, and I plan go receive at least 90% of the register list. At least this is what the gift concierge promised me. I chose two different style of dinnerware. One casual chic and another a more elegant. I hope I will receive my full 8 place for each. Wish me luck.

For my new bedroom, I chose 4 different style of sheet sets, 2 duvet covers, lots of monogrammed towels (with no charge since it is part of the registry), 8 beautiful linen guest towels, 2 table towels, and so on.

I am so excited to receive my gifts! I can't wait for my wedding to come, November 28.

Now I can understand better what we, the future brides, go thru :laundy:

Thank you all so much for the great ideas! I never thought to return it to the store and then rebuy it down here in Florida. We just might do that for the heavy stuff.

I also like the poem idea....we might do one similar and just refer to the heavy things.

Thank you very much for the ideas!
