Breastfeeding, I support it but...

On 6/20 we were leaving MK at 10:30. Fireworks were delayed due to a storm. We were walking through the stores on Main Street to stay a little more dry. Walked out of the clothing stores and then into the Main Street Bakery. At the exit door on the right hand side was a breast feeding mom in the female "full monty" even though the baby could only feed on one side at a time.

I have no problems with breastfeeding but this seemed a littled out there. I actually stood at the side of the door blocking her until she was done then we continued on our way. She appeared to be from a different culture so maybe it is more accepted where she comes from.

I would done the same thing.

Even though I'm sure her intentions were honorable (feeding her child) no sense in giving some guy a free show! :lmao:

In 1992 they passed a law that it is legal for women to go topless in NY. So if you can be topless in the middle of times square (a la the naked cowgirl)- breastfeed away.

Here we go again! popcorn::

There is never a good end to posts like this.

That's just what I was thinking.

These posts drive me crazy! You probably have passed many women BF and not known it.

Honestly, I would rather my kids see a woman BF indiscreetly than see someone smoking!

sounds like a woman we saw at our local zoo...
she was sitting front and center at the reptile show....

I agree breast feed away.. but no need for totally topless!!!

Quick thinking on your part.. That was very nice of you..:goodvibes

But the point is, this woman was NOT discreet. I agree, Breastfeeding can be done publicly without drawing undue attention. But there is no reason whatsoever for exhibiting naked breasts that are not actively "in use." I fully support breastfeeding anywhere, any time. But full exposure is just not necessary.

Wonder if this woman was seeking out a little publicity. You know, get some negative feedback so she can yell far and wide about how WDW is anti-breastfeeding.

I don't think that's what the OP is intending. I agree with her in her concern for the mom to have her breasts exposed around so many strangers. You DO NOT know if any leering men are nearby and perhaps, in this mom's culture, that is not a concern.

ETA-My post is directed at those who are hinting at a breast-feeding war.

MTE.

As for the woman, she very well could be from another country, one where the sexual hang-ups of the exposed breast that Americans have is not shared. Unless its illegal for her to do that at WDW, its no big deal. I breastfed all my kids, they learned very early what the purpose of breasts are, so they wouldn't think anything of it. I feel bad for the adults who think more of it than there is.

Yes, I know. My post said indiscreetly.

I wouldn't like it but naked ****s are not the worst thing in the world.

I actually have a funny . . .when DH and I were there in May, we got ice cream and headed up to the Tomorrowland Noodle Station dining area, it was closed, but there were many people in there eating lunch and it was pretty quiet and a cool place to be . . .so I figured, wow, this is nice . . .not too many people, and cool . . .Sooooo as we were sitting there was a young mom with her significant other and a toddler (I would of guessed maybe 2?) sitting a few tables over the mom called her toddler over and then she started to breastfeed him . . .:scared: I had no clue on which way to look . . .she just basically whipped out her breast . . .:eek:my DH asked me why I was trying to hurry and finish my ice cream and I kind of nodded my head to show him what I was looking at . . .his face turned a completely different color . . .:rotfl:

You are so bad! ;)

If it isn't illegal, I'd just move along. It may not have bothered her to be exposed.

I totally support BF.
While it may not have bothered the mother to be exposed, it may bother others to see her exposed. Especially if they have their own children with them.

IMO, it is not appropriate in a family oriented place to expose yourself like that. She could have been feeding discreetly.
Heck, a cousin of mine was so discreet when she breastfed all 4 of her children, that you could watch her doing it and never really know that's what she was doing.

I fully support BF and the benefits that go along with it, however that gal crossed the line a bit. Was there someone there (like a DH?) to tell her she's exposed?

I have to agree. However, anybody wanna start a bet-thread to see how long this lasts???

:rotfl2:

I seriously don't get the issue. Are art museums not family oriented? Do children's eyes have to be covered in front of the works of many of the greatest artists? I don't get when women's breasts became such a big taboo (and primarily in America, not a problem in most of Europe). What makes men's nipples acceptable in public, yet not women's? At least women's have a use!

Two questions.

Do you have pictures?

and

Was she attractive?
