Breastfeeding, I support it but...

So based on what you see and hear on a regular basis, you believe that most people think it's OK if women go topless? I'm not talking about BF now but it sounded like you thought that women should feel free to go without a top on whenever men do.

Trust me, in my area that is NOT the norm.

As long as the woman WANTS to go topless who am I to say no? Its not the "norm" in my area either and I highly doubt most women around me would want to but for the few who want to why should I stop them? I'm sure they'd get looks stared at who knows maybe even pics taken but its all on them.. their body. If they are comfortable with it more power to ya :thumbsup2:dance3:

I feel that way too but you know that there will be religious people and older people and others that will freak out. Let them have their little corner of the world where they can go and avoid this if they want to. It's only fair.

No, I think women feed their babies in the way that works for them. Sad that others have to judge. Really sad, and really more about the observers than about the ones feeding their children. You are acting like they are doing shows for the masses, not the fact. Read the OP's post again, and get back to me.

Amen.

I'm not acting like anything. I said earlier that IF that really happened I think it's a bit over the top. My comments about women going topless was directed at the posts about how it was OK for women to go topless wherever men went topless.

I personally couldn't care less but I respect those who do care. And I'm not talking about BF at all but the whole topless thing.

Actually I was brought up in a very Christian household, and I was never, once, told that my body, in it's natural state was taboo or sinful. The one who is committing the sin is the one who is harboring the lustful thoughts about the nudity, or is using their nudity in a lewd/seductive fashion (of which breastfeeding falls under neither category). But, again, the act of simply being nude is actually man's original, God-made state of being.

You mean Mary didn't feed Jesus bottled formula??? :rotfl:

Because if you have a hungry child the important thing is switching from one side to the other for continuous feeding, not the puritanical opinions of others? Because the sight of a woman's breast while breastfeeding is not a taboo with a large portion of the world? Because depending on the bra you are wearing, it is not easy to slip one back in while the child is latched onto the other? Because breastfeeding sometimes makes your nipples hurt like heck (sores and all) and sometimes anything coming in contact with your nipple right afterward is like rubbing an open wound and a breeze feels great? Because you need to put balm on your nipples before covering back up which is not easy when a child is still attached? Because you know the other is showing, so the horse is already out of the barn?

Choose any or all.

Oh, ok. Well I have several good friends that breast fed and NONE of them ever found it necessary. Most of them seemed to know when feeding would be necessary and were prepared. They didn't go hide away but they also were able to feed their child without ever drawing attention to themselves (and regardless of how you feel, it does draw attention) which is actually better for the baby. The part of it only being taboo in the US is a good one, except for one problem; it happened in the US.

I couldn't really care less if someone makes that choice. Her body, who cares. But I do find it odd that everyone jumps up and down to defend all these reasons and 1000's (if not millions) of women are able to breast feed daily without needing to be defended at all.

I find most of these debates odd since we all know that any woman is perfectly capable of feeding her child without all this commotion. And no, she does not have to hide away in a bathroom or anywhere else. We also know that bf is better for the baby if it is possible but that babies flourished for years and years on formula (I can show 3 quite healthy individuals that were bottle fed).

The sad thing is that its women that are darned and determined to shove it in everyone's face that SHE is breast feeding her baby that makes it harder on all of those who don't find a need to call attention to themselves. That is what causes all those folks that really look down on a woman bfing in public, no matter what the case, to get the chance to be all up in arms about it. And, yes, yes, I know she has that right.

I hate when religion gets brought into this subject. I have never heard, not even ONE religious leader say one thing about bfing in public. NEVER. The subject just doesn't come up, maybe :confused3. Maybe they feel its a personal choice. :confused3 We don't have mother's feeding their children during church services, I don't think--never thought about it and don't know that I would notice if she did. There are religions that teach extreme modesty, but its not ALL religions nor is it ALL religious people.

I am going to solve this whole debate. Next time I am in WDW and I am BFing (which I have done more times than I can remember) I am simply going to take my pants off. This way nobody is worried about whether or not they got flashed some nip. Then you can all come back and discuss whether nursing women should wax or not and if it is offensive.;);):rotfl:

Perfect idea, draw the eyes away from the upper body. You could have your own show on TLC "What not to do while nursing"

I don't believe for one minute that a woman was doing the "full monty" while nursing her baby at the Main Street Bakery.

For one--while our FL liberal breastfeeding law allows for incidental exposure of parts during feedings, it doesn't allow the unused side to sit flashing in the breeze.

Nope---I don't believe your story.

I am sure someone on Dis was at MK that evening 6/20. You wouldn't forget it, raining cats and dogs and fireworks really delayed. I was standing at the exit door of the bakery and she was right behind me.

Dagnabbit, missed it by 2 days....

One thing I learned here on these boards is, there are breast feeding women hanging out all over everywhere on Disney property, people chain smoke everywhere where they aren't suppose to as well as you will accidentally walk through a smoking area about every hour unintentionally, and everyone uses old cups at the resorts.

Not once did I see anyone breast feeding. I didn't see a single person smoking, nor did I ever even see a smoking area. But I did see one person filling an obvious old cup because I was jealous it was about 3 times the size of my $14.95 cup I bought that held about 4 sips of flat extremely watered down Coke.

Oh for the love of pete. You are spinning people's words so fast that it's ridiculous.

You're not going to change anyone's mind, just like we obviously aren't going to change yours. If you want to have both your ****s hang out while you breast feed, feel free, but just know that you will probably get stares and eventually talked about on a forum somewhere. :) Because like it or not, that IS a cultural standard in America. Most Americans aren't used to seeing both ****s hanging out as it is not the standard. The law says that women can breastfeed in public, but there is a difference between breastfeeding tastefully in public and just letting your ****s hang out -- and American CULTURE is that you don't let your ****s just hang out like that. Good grief.

Yep, the SpinMaster is at it again. :lmao: I guess I'll have to hang my head in shame that I am less than a true American until I am ready to let the girls fly free in all their cultural glory.

Oh well......I'm off to my busy day of oppressing women......and breasts, apparently. :rotfl2:

I don't know...I think "standing" there and blocking her way when she obviously didn't care? Whatever. I would have spared her a glance and gone on my way, not blocked the door, nor posted on the DIS about my heroic, selfless actions.

For one, I always BF either in my car, or the bathroom, but I would not have stood there blocking her way...to each his own.
