Has anyone here had a breast reduction? DD is thinking about having it done but she thinks that if she has it done she will not be able to nurse when she has kids.

For reference DD is 16, 5 feet tall and wears a 38D. She is also a cheerleader and they do get in the way if you know what I mean.

Thanks

My former (male) coworkers referred to this surgery as "the ultimate sin," LOL!

One of my girlfriends had it done. They actually removed the nipple and then reattached it. I don't know how that affects ability to breasfeed. She did feel a lot better with her smaller chest. I am relatively petite with a big chest too (36D), and I've grown to love them. Maybe your DD will too in time. As long as they aren't causing her any discomfort (other than in cheerleading), I'd wait a few years.

There is a whole nother thread about this subject that is very informative, check it out!:D

There is quite a long thread going on about this now. Look for it--it think it is called "Reductions." The original poster just had one and she has posted her results. Also, there is some talk about the implications of breast feeding afterwards.

I know a girl in high school who had it done (later). She was also a cheerleader! I think she had it done when she was about 25. Said it was the best thing she had ever done and really changed her whole life.

I considered having it done and after going through surgery (C-section) decided against it. Especially after going online and reading about different experiences. My mom had it done in her forties. Her nipples look like perfect round circles that were pasted on-looks really fake looking to me. I would consult her pediatrician. She is really young...if she gets it done, I would go all the way down to a B cup at least. As you get older, large breats hang . After I had my son, they literally rest on my body. I have a hard time buying clothes, bathing suits-anything strapless or with spaghetti straps is out. I've tried to buy a strapless bra. Even the really expensive ones that go way down do not work. I fall right out of them. I am a 34D and am 5'1" (37 years old).

I’ve read that this operation has (by far) the highest satisfaction 'rating' of all cosmetic surgeries.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for all of the info

onecoolmama thanks for the link. That gave me a lot of information.

shelbyjosh thanks for the PM

I will have DD look all of this over. I think she will wait until after she has kids. But this way she can make an informed decision.

We are going to start documenting any problems that she has with her doctor. Maybe that will make it easier to be approved so insurance will cover it.
