I meant that in (god forbid) the case of breast cancer or such.

Ummm. Really, tell that to the woman i work with who lost one of her breasts to mastectomy, then had an implant. To her it was a necessity.

And to my mind my wanting to have reduction surgery is also cosmetic and definitely not a necessity, though, unlike most having an augmentation I can probably come up with enough excuses to get it covered by my insurance. But truthfully, it is about vanity - it's about my wanting to be able to have clothes that fit and not have the world judge me by my b**bs and, because I'm tired of having spots on my chest where they've brushed into stuff, and, and, and... Would you slam me?

No way! Please read the whole thread...I have implants. I wouldn't slam anyone, for any reason. I have them and I love them and I wish my insurance would cover them! I am saying that you should do what makes you feel best, free of judgment. So many on here have been quick to judge women who have implants as being vain or insecure.

My point was that people come on here saying it's vain or insecure for women who have lost breast tissue due to pregnancy, or nursing, or who are just not happy with their appearance, to have implants but say it's okay for women who have had mastectomies to be insecure about their appearance. I am just saying that if you are in the camp of "be happy with what you are given" then I don't see the distinction. I am decidedly NOT in that camp. My point was that NO implants are MEDICALLY necessary. They serve no medical purpose. Again, remember I have them. They are for appearance's sake regardless of the reason you get them. If, heaven forbid, I had to have a mastectomy would I consider implants necessary for me? .... 100%, absolutely, without a doubt. I also agree that insurance should cover it. Again, I have implants for purely cosmetic reasons.

Not at all. mastectomy is medically necessary. It is done to remove malignant tissue. Implants are strictly cosmetic. I am not comparing the two at all. I am saying implants are always all about body image no matter the reason you are getting them, and I wouldn't fault or criticize anyone that chose to have them, for whatever reason.

Being comfortable with yourself is very important. As I said before, if you are comfortable with your body the way it is, that is wonderful, but if you are not you should be able to do what you want or can without the judgment of others.

Can I hijack this thread a little and ask if anyone has anyone good bra recommendations for us A's that can't afford surgery? I'd love to find a good one that makes me look bigger and not like its all bra.

My Mother has always been petite and unfortuantely she allowed me and my brother to nurse her to death.... She did this in 1968 and 1970...when breast feeding was taboo. Anywho, fast forward to 1985 and she had a bilateral breast augmentation. She used a very good plastic surgeon in our area and of course had silicone implants at the time---right before all of the hellabaloo came out about silicone. She is still perfectly happy with the results. She is a gorgeous 66year old. They did harden or incapsulate after several years and when she went back to see him he tried to manually "crack" or loosen the hardness. It was too painful so Mom has just kept them the way they are. They still look beautiful in her clothing and bathingsuits and really did an excellent job for her self esteem---which is the only reason why anyone should do this....for themselves.

My SIL has 5 children, all breastfed. She is even smaller than my Mom and wants the surgery. My Mom has advised her to go with her surgeon who is still in practice and now has 30 years experience with this procedure. SIL has other friends who have used younger guys. I would think the surgeon who has done 15,000 is better than one who has done 20. So do your research.

Very sexy with gel curve by Victoria's Secret. They also have the "miraculous" bra, but it is super padded.

I second this as a fairly flat-chested person. The gel has a really natural look - not at all like a "padded bra". Fits great and gives nice cleavage if you are looking for that Seriously, I have like 5 of them.

Since this is the budget board, I'll bring up the little known fact that you can get budget plastic surgery at teaching schools for plastic surgeons. These often cost half the price and run the gamut from breastlifts to full body lifts.

Hi! It was nice to find this thread because I recently went to a surgeon to ask about breast augmentation. I still haven't decided whether or not to do it, but I at least wanted to get some information. I'm 29 and have two children that I breastfed. I've never had large breasts and I've always been fine with it, but after the kids I'm embarrassed to wear bathing suits and tank tops. The breastfeeding really did them in, unfortunately. The two things holding me back (besides the cost) are 1. the possibility of infection and 2. possibility of complications during surgery. I've never had general anesthesia so I'm really nervous about having surgery. It really scares me to think that I could leave my children motherless for something so trivial. I realize that the risk is small but it still makes me nervous...
