BREAKING: Walt Disney World Introduces Date-Based Variable Pricing for Genie+ Service

You and I fundamentally disagree about what optional means, so we will never see eye to eye. A parachute is technically optional on a skydive, but it really makes the experience more enjoyable.
We seem to disagree on whether or not the parachute manufacturer should be able to sell you a parachute if you would like to have an enjoy your skydive or if they have to just give you one because you wish to jump out of a plane.

I don't buy it (i.e. going to see them in theaters/Disney+). I don't want to support Disney making more soulless remakes. I know Disney will continue to make them because people will pay to see them. I can still criticize them for what they are. Even beyond that, I see people defend every not good decision Disney makes in regards to the parks and it confuses me because if any other park did that they would be heavily bashed.

Nah, every park has their loyal fans. Loyal fans tend to either defend everything the company does or criticize everything they do. 😂

I personally agree with you about soulless remakes being cash grabs... as in, they are only being produced because Disney knows they are guaranteed money. I can't blame any company for having gotten on that bandwagon because it clearly makes them boatloads of guaranteed money, but I really dislike it personally and think it's seriously stifling innovation and creativity.

There are those that will defend Disney no matter what, I am not one. But there are those that see evil lurking behind every move. Neither are probably correct.

I agree. I see people defend Disney whenever they do something anti consumer all the time and it always baffles me. Not talking about Genie+ as that's universally criticized but rather other things such as the cash grab live action remakes.
How are the live action remakes anti-consumer? That's a strange example. Those movies being made isn't harming anyone. Whether they're good or soulless or entertaining is subjective opinion. I fully admit some of them seem like relatively low effort cashing in on established IP, but that's Hollywood in a nutshell. Others are very well done, IMO. I haven't seen most of them because they appeal to me personally, but that doesn't make me think they shouldn't exist.

Sorry, I meant that they're cash grabs rather than anti consumer. That was my bad with wording.

Very true. TBH I see more blind bashing of everything Disney does and questioning the motives of every little thing than I see blind defending. But both are common in enthusiast groups of all kinds. Like I always say, nobody hates Disney like hard core Disney fans 🤣

It's more like, for years Disney was the skydiving company that included a parachute with your purchase of a sky diving trip. Now, you get up in the plane and they tell you, sorry dude, parachute costs extra.

Fair enough. I'd love to see more originality as much as the next guy. But I get that it's risky. For every original IP hit like Encanto, there are a bunch of clunkers. Hopefully they'll find a good balance.

This is just the new way of renting points. I have been repeatedly reprimanded for bringing this up as an issue for DVC owners. Just ignore it.
I'm sure that's true, but I'm also sure some of those are people that have changed there mind about using their points. There's a lot of negativity coming from DVC owners too.

"For 25 years, I've heard that 'I'm not going to Disney World' on one hand, while they're handing them their wallet with the other," said Werner, who also owns Dreams Unlimited Travel.

It's the last trip this time, I swear! Every time. With every change (prices or otherwise).

Or people like me, who have too much money sunk in to pull out right now, but find it cathartic to moan about the unjustified price hikes. If this were a clothing store, I’d be shopping somewhere else, but I have like 80k sunk into DVC, so I’ll just complain until I get to a point I literally can’t afford to go anymore. Not everything is binary.

It was just a number used for an example. I think we'll see that price, maybe more but I think that's going to be the cutoff point for a lot of people. Mostly because that's the price point at which I'd have to see a lot of improvement to justify buying it. Your argument is Disney wants to sell an unlimited number of Genie + at a higher price. I think the opposite- they want to sell it eventually for a great deal more and the end goal being a better product with at least as good as or higher profits than they see at the current prices. Because to sell it for more, it has to be better. Perhaps it's not so much my belief that Disney is run by people who know what they're doing ( and I do), but that people won't pay higher prices for a product that isn't working well.

We simply disagree and only time will tell how it all pans out.
Thing is, if the current product and lines are now $22, easily 25 soon, would many pay 50 for It? Would you pay 50 for half the current lines/G+ availability wait? I don’t think I would. Maybe for a quarter the current waits. Although folks pay way more for Universals, and some of those waits, like Grongotts, are still quite long. I’d never pay for Uni’s, but it’s an awesome hotel perk. As long as their hotels stay reasonable.

The comment wasn't about complaining about this or that it was saying in a nutshell you're done with Disney but then caving and going to Disney again. That has been something I've read for as many years as I've been on the Board. With this site there are a true minority of people who mean it when they say they are done. It's hard, not judging why someone does that, but it ends up defeating your (general your) stance and being like a YAGE only to reappear again.

There is nothing that was binary about the comment but try not to take it as a personal thing, it wasn't aimed at you.

Except you know before you go what it costs and you get to decide whether you want to pay it or not.

That's my point, I think at $50 a lot of people wouldn't pay it even if it meant much shorter lines- just like they aren't willing to stay onsite for extra hours or buy hard ticket events. They want the short lines, they just don't want to pay for it. I'm more than willing to. But no, in it's current state, I wouldn't pay $50. $25 is probably my top dollar and even then, I'd start limiting which parks I bought it at.

As Pete has said many times, people on these boards will go right over the edge complaining about price hikes, all the while making reservations for the next trip. The dust up will settle and people will go back just like they always do. Those that really quit going, aren't here.

The ones I do see are usually (general comment here) ones that left Disney but still go to Universal. Those people are still frequent on the Boards but they are on the Universal side :)

Not always. We’ve sold three of our BWV contracts and after we take the grandkids on a long promised trip next month our last one will also be sold. Enough is enough.
