BREAKING NEWS on CNN: Monorail Accident Kills One IN WDW

It seems all news reports are now coming out that it was definitely at TTC, but the trains were arriving from EPCOT.

I had some trouble finding the video (its been removed from Youttube) but this site still has it: http://www.clickorlando.com/video/19956043/index.html
WARNING! May be upsetting to some viewers. This footage was taken just after the crash while driver is still onboard.

So sad! We've ridden up front many times and heard all about the safety systems in place.

tragic...

Every time we ride the monorail my kids want to be up front. I will seriously think twice next time before letting them get in the front car.

Based on the local news station reports, it happened at TTC. It was the final run of the monorail bringing guests from MK to the TTC. The MK was open until 1am this morning due to the 4th of July activities.

I don't think it does any good to speculate on the cause. The entire monorail system is shut down for the remainder of the day while investigation takes place to ensure the system is safe.

Wow-does it really matter where the crash happened?
All I can keep thinking about is someone's son or daughter is not coming home today and having a DD that was a CM-that must be devastatingly heartbreaking.:sad1::sad1::sad1:

I just watched this and bawled my eyes out! I guess I thought I would see a little footage of the cars smashed up not see actual footage of just after the crash with the driver still inside! :scared1: I had to stop watching as soon as I realized what I was seeing. (You do not see the driver but you do hear another CM saying that he was still inside. It took me a few minutes to understand what I was hearing as my sound was turned down.)

I'm sorry, Pikester. I added a warning to my post containing the link.

Me too. It was horrifying. So terribly tragic.

Our school colors are purple and white. My daughter and I were so excited to ride in the front of the purple monorail two weeks ago because it was her graduation trip and it just seemed so appropriate.

That video knocked the air out of my lungs. So terribly sad for this young man and his family and friends.

What info would need to come out?

Is there any possible scenario where it's NOT Disney's fault and they don't need to make some serious changes?:confused3

I'm a huge supporter of Disney, both emotionally and financially, but I'm not going to let them sweep stuff like this under the carpet. They need to be called onto the carpet, not swept under it.

:confused3

Who knows if it was driver error, mechanical failure etc. It could have been anything. No way am I assigning any blame to anyone until we find out the actual cause. Naturally Disney will bear the brunt of the responsibility regardless and I am sure there will be changes made to how the monorail operates. I never suggested anything be swept under the carpet. I merely said I will not jump to any conclusions until I know more.

That video has me crying. To think that something this horrible could happen at Disney World, our happy place. I know that my daughter will NEVER be allowed to ride in the front of a monorail again. :sad2:

I don't think they will let people sit up front anymore:sad2:

I am sorry I watched the video. It is very sad. :( How horrible.

I read the wikipedia link on the MAPO saftey system, and it seems like the computer and pilot were to act as each others backup system.

I would bet that the monorail system will be shut down for quite some time, or at least operating at a substantial reduced rate. First you have the police investigation and then I am sure Disney will not anyone on the monorail until the problem is found and corrected so that it does not happen again.

My prayers to the CM and his/her family.

My husband and 3 kids had a Driver named Austin about this age he was wonderful. If a Pix comes into the Paper or TV please post it . Its amazing how connected you can feel with people you meet so briefly. He said it was his dream job and was so wonderful with my kids. Would like to let family know how special he made our kids feel if it was him. No matter who it was it is so sad :sad1:

Such a tragedy.

I think I will wait to see what the OFFICIAL investigators have to say about what happened instead of someone here who thinks they figured it out.

My thoughts go out to the family of the driver and others that may have been involved.

That video is heartbreaking. It's so sad to see the first people on the scene trying to make contact with the driver. :(
