Breaking Down The Show Breakdowns

I find that having the segments separated, I look at the title and think naaahhh, not interested, but then I listen and loved it. I think when it was a long podcast I listened to the whole thing no matter what the topic because of the jokes, and giggles that went throughout. I too think that is what is missing.

I still enjoy the show and have noticed that we actually have been getting more show this way, so that is a bonus. I did miss the email show the other week, as it got lost in all thesegments, and I too like to listen to them in order.

I wonder if you could lable the order somewhere so those of us who like to listen in order would know the order you taped them.

In the end, I would listen to your show no matter what you did to it.

Thanks so much to you all for all the time and effort you put into the show.

I have been listening directly from the links on the Unplugged page rather than wait for the iTunes feed. I can just click the shows as the links appear in order, and it's fine.

That being said, when I did listen to the long format, I did wait for iTunes. My iPod would bookmark automatically if I couldn't listen in one shot.

I like the long format, but the short formats don't bother me.

I can do either way and see advantages to both. One thing I noticed with short segments is that "running jokes" don't make sense. I don't know why, but they never end up in the same order on my ipod. So I'll listen to a reference in one segment and only find out what they were talking about in a later one.

I also listen to another radio show podcast and the hours (hour 1, hour 2, ect) are always getting out of order too. I don't know if it is something I'm doing wrong with my ipod or if itunes is just messy that way. But I do miss the continuity.

I'm happy with the segmented format. Like several others, my main reason is that we get more show. I also like to be able to go to a specific show. For obvious reasons, I was eagerly awaiting the Boma review and I liked being able to go straight to it. Had it been one long show, I would probably not have listened to all the the segments before being able to listen to the Boma review.

It would be nice if my iPhone would play them in the order they appear in iTunes. Other Podcasts that do the same thing so this isn't something the DIS can control.

I really like the broken-out format, but I have one suggestion...

To keep the segments better organized, maybe the Crew would consider a numbering methodology for the shows to include in the show title?

Possibly the News/Rapid Fire segment could be Show #112301
- 11 = year (2011)
- 23 = week (23rd week of 2011)
- 01 = first segment of the week

And then the remainder of the week's segments would be in order (#112302, #112303, etc.).

Next week's would begin with show #112401.

If the crew kept things consistent, then you would always know that the show ending in 01 is new/rapid fire, and the others would be the "special" segments for the week.

Just an idea...

The new format (though not really new) that was announced on the podcast this weeks is great and should make everyone happy. Thanks.

The way I understood it:

If you like the long "yammering" version you can get it from the podcast page.

If you like the short versions format you can get that from the iTunes page.

I have always gotten mine from iTunes. Is there a way to transfer the long one into my iTunes? :)

I need to know this, too. I am sure there is a way to do it, I am spoiled how smooth iTunes is.

You'll need to download it from the page and it will show up in iTunes to transfer to your iPod/pad/phone etc

Thanks to the OP, I've been thinking the same thing. I understand sometimes you need to try new things, but for a number of reasons I liked the old format.

1) The show order is never correct.
2) Too much time is wasted on show intos (autotune, my ears, ah....), and I've already heard who's sitting in the peanut gallery three times...
3) I've kept every show from day one, and the new format it like iTunes spam.
4) Two shows/week--simple. Honestly, I have no idea how many shows/week, now, and so I don't know if I missed something. Confusing format.

Why not use times so people who wanted could easily find segments for future reference? Also, keep the the separate Disneyland shows and interviews--that makes sense.

Podcast crew, I appreciate all the hard work and time. You do a great job. Just voicing opinions here...

Edit: Okay, just read the long one(s) are available from the podcast page. I can live with that. Thanks!

Thanks for this! I don't think the long version is yammering, but the flow is better when it's all one show, especially because the podcast crew are so funny and when they relate comments back to an early part of the show, it's hard to know what's going on, unless you happen to hear the podcast in the correct order. Plus, I like to listen to the podcast on my long runs, but with shorter versions, I keep having to stop to change the show. I'll try to download the long version next week! Thanks, again!!

Thank you Pete! (or whoever came up with putting the full show on the podcast page) I'm listening to the full show now...love it.

I thought I was the only one! Thank you OP for raising this!

I LOVE the show in any format, but I never got used to the multiple segment version of the show. Somehow I always ended up missing something, couldn't remember which Housekeeping shows I listened to, never seemed fully caught up. I also felt like things got repetitive -- hearing the intro and outro music, the rundown of people at the table, and list of all the different segments over and over takes a lot of time and I just find myself zoning out a little (just a little!).

I'm behind on shows, but I am glad to hear there is a long version available somewhere. Can't wait to listen!

Also, can't say enough how much I am loving the DL show -- great job, CA team!

Whooo hoooo! Y'all, I am 6 WEEKS behind in the podcasts - and it's because I just don't "sync" with the short version of the shows.... thanks SOO much for making the long show available - now I'll just go figure out how to get it into itunes.

Thanks for all you do - we genuinely appreciate it!!

Debbie - If you figure out how to get it in iTunes can you post it here? I can download it and play it through iTunes, but I can't figure out how to get the file into iTunes so I can sync it to my iPod. Thanks so much!

I like the segments. Believe it or not, I skip those segments that don't interest me.

There is no "Auto-magic" way to get the long shows into Itunes if they are not in an RSS feed. You would need to download them manually and put them in your Itunes library. Itunes uses this wonderful syndication language called XML. Now, anyone can make their own RSS feed and point the links back to the long shows if they want. popcorn::

I did download it manually, but I can't drag it into iTunes. As for making my own RSS feed...I don't think that is in my wheelhouse!

You would need to start with something like this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/817135/www/rss_long.xml

Then in Itunes, you would need to add the feed manually:
