Breaking Down The Show Breakdowns

Mike, maybe I am not clever enough, but the code and the steps look to complicated for me!
Perhaps iTunes needs two sets of feeds. One with the full show, one with the chopped up show segments.
I am managing with the segments. I do not enjoy intro / exit "music", I just have to do more fast forwarding.

I never said it was easy. ;)

I created my own feed so that Christy and I can download the long shows.

The second part in Itunes, is adding the feed manually so that Itunes will download it for you once the feed is updated.

If nothing else, this shows you some of the many steps that has to happen for the podcast to get published. There are Pre-recording tasks, the session, post-production, and publishing.

I like the chapter versions. Bit more click to down load but it makes it easier to skip something I am not interested in hearing.

It also helps to make progress in listening. I might get enough time to hear a couple of chapters and finish them. With the one big download, I would have to go back and find the point I left off.

I wish we had a single click download of the "chapters" but I listen on a PC so Firefox allows me to fairly easily and quickly download.

Took awhile to get used to the new format though.

Later,
Dan

The only frustrating thing about the chapters, I think, is all the information is repeated over and over and over... and it's hard to skip without missing other stuff.

Me too. I'm not sure why, but I'm behind on shows and that never happened before. It's kinda weird. I was just going down the Listen Now list and realized there are two segments I never listened to. :confused3

Completely agree, I don't understand why but I find the new format more difficult. I know it sounds silly, but I really prefer the old format. I still listen to everything, but I find that I run 2-3 weeks behind...not sure why, it's just happening!

I agree, I am about 2 months behind, and I never seem to be able to catch up! The long episodes will help, as long as I can figure out how to put them into itunes!

I use Google Reader to download all the shows via the RSS feed. The only thing I use iTunes for is a drag and drop interface for the iPod. You edit the ID3 information to be anything you want and just drag the MP3 into the music portion of iTunes (it will be with music and not podcasts but that doesn't matter).

Im sooooo happy the long shows are back. :banana:I have no itunes problems because I dont have an ipod. I use a creative zen that I love! I never skip any of the chapters because you never know when something funny is going to be said. Even if its a topic Im not to interested in.

Probably should have posted a while ago but I couldn't be happier with the "new" split up shows. I'd imagine it's more work putting it together, so I definitely hope everyone involved knows my gratitude. I love listening to the news first, than skipping to a restaurant review if there is one, going back to finish up the news show, and then listening to the various ones depending on how they sound. The new format allows me to skip pretty much every interview (no offense to the people who enjoy them) which I used to have to fast forward through.

I like how the new format allows people to easily skip segments they probably wouldn't want to listen to, allowing a more positive experience than a negative one by basically forcing someone to listen to something they don't want to (or use a very bad "fast forward" feature on most mp3 players).

I also hope the new format can bring around more discussion about the Universal/Sea World parks because it can now be contained in a 20 minute segment rather than doing a full show on it. I think it's clear that only, what, 2-3 Universal shows were done when it was supposed to be every single month shows there probably wasn't much interest in going through with that much committment.

Ahhh, it was so nice to listen to the long show last night while mowing the lawn. Loved the ABD review, Peter was cracking me up with the back rub comments. I think he needs to do the show on three hours sleep all the time.

I like the individual segments. I rarely have an hour plus to listen to the show, but I do walk every day and I like walking to one segment and having a distinct starting and ending point instead of having to stop mid-sentence so to speak.
I also listen in my car and my iPod interface doesn't allow for hands-free searching, so if i want to hear just one particular segment at that time, or to repeat a segment it is very hard to do. But it is much easier with the "chapters".
But i love the show, so I'll take it however TPTB want to provide it.
Thanks to the entire Podcast team for years of listening pleasure and eduction (stay outta the lakes!)

As previous posters have mentioned, I'm a bit behind on the podcasts. I am happy to hear that the long shows are back, but sad to hear that they are not available in the iTunes feed. I can find the long version online, but can't figure out how to get it from my Mac to my iPod. I listen to the podcasts on my commutes in the car, and having the longer versions means that I don't have to take my eyes off the road to switch between episodes.

Can someone walk me through this process?
