BREAKING Contemporary Reasort News

Having CR part of the DVC may be what it takes us to buy in :cool1:PatriciaH- I hope our paths cross when I'm on the 12th floor in October- we missed meeting you last summer :)

I hope to see you then!

Anymore updates or pictures of current construction in the Concoarse?

Anyone out there at CR now or just back.

We leave in 41 days and I will cry if the Concoarse is a mess. :guilty:

They are only replacing carpet and tile in front of the gift shops. No major Concourse construction going on for about a year or so. The face lift to the flooring should be done soon according to IPO.

This sounds like a good idea to me. I've always liked the Food & Fun Center. For people visiting the resort (not staying there) the F&F Center isn't the easiest place to find. Putting it upstairs should bring in additional business.

I THINK it's only being used for conventions and "overflow" ATM.

If the rumors are true (and they've been long standing ones), it'll come at a perfect time for me. My wife and I are considering buying into DVC next year. If this PR comes soon (and it would almost have to) we'll hold off until they start selling CR points....cause that's most certainly where we'll want our home resort to be.

Yep,you a million others myself included! :thumbsup2

Apparantly a bunch of us were lied to because I just got a link on another thread that showed and talked about the concourse being torn up. I am really ticked off. I was told that there was no construction planned during my stay 9/19 - 9/27. I am seriously considering if they will change my resort.

I saw that. I am hoping we get some clarification as more people return from trips. I am not changing as all my triplets talk about is the monorail and the Chef Mickey hotel. Please post if you find anything else out.

I believe the official word people were given, earlier in the year, about construction in the Contemporary is that nothing was planned that would interfere with their enjoyment of the resort. Now, I'm sure that reasonable people could disagree about it, but Disney's position is, apparently, that some minor construction on the concourse isn't enough to interfere with guest enjoyment of the resort.

Yeah, I'm getting a little worried about this. I would never have chosen this resort if I knew it was going to be torn up. And having construction walls up all over the place isn't my idea of a Deluxe hotel. Do you think those of us who have trips planned for next month can change resorts now? Or is everything booked up already. I would rather just stay at the Poly now, then we'll stay at CR after the renovations are complete.

Someone should have at least told us there would be construction going on during our stay. I stayed at a hotel in Vegas once that had major construction going on. The hotel reduced are rate!

I believe the construction is meant to be minimal, just refurbishing some of the shops on the concourse. You can probably just ignore it and have a wonderful time.

Hi Mary! I think we are going at exactly the same time!

This is how I feel too. Of course we can walk past it and ignore it, but I go on vacation for a great fun atmosphere and I don't want to walk through a construction zone every morning and several times a day! I am going to call later today and check on the moving thing too, because I called and asked before my 45 days specifically so that I could move resorts if I wanted to and I feel like I was given false info!

I feel the same way! I have ressies for 11/28-12/3 for the Tower. I was told through e-mail that rehab would not affect my stay. From Disney -"Currently Disney's Contemporary Resort advises that any future refurbishments should not have an effect on their guest's stay."

I most likely will cancel my ressie if the construction is still on-going when my trip is planned. Staying at the Contemporary is expensive and having to put with construction on vacation is not an option for me.

I think the thing that really gets me about all of this is how expensive the CR is. If there are going to be walls up all over the lobby area, restricting our enjoyment of walking around the resort, visiting shops, etc, then I want out! The information we're getting here seems rather conflicting. Not sure how to interpret it.

Dh will flip if the hotel is under major construction. He's going to say, "we paid HOW MUCH per night for this????!!!" That's why I said we might as well just stay at the Poly. It's still on the monorail. I just wanted to stay at the CR because it's walking distance to the MK.

Mytwotinks: let me know what they say about changing resorts.

Not really. Disney hasn't said that there won't be construction; just that it won't impede a guest's ability to enjoy their stay.

Yes really! I was told that construction was not scheduled to begin until next year. The cm I talked to knew that I was asking specifically if there would be ANY construction during my stay, not whether or not it would "impede my ability to enjoy my stay."

I haven't called yet. I will do it tonight when my girls go to bed. I think I 'm a little nervous because I really wanted to stay there and we splurged a little to do it. Now I am almost tempted to ask them to change us to the POFQ which we know we love. I was really looking forward to staying on the monorail though. I don't know what to do.

This was posted on a separate thread last night.

Contemporary construction update for August 19, 2006

I wanted to post this in the Breaking news thread about the Contemporary however I thought it no one would see it, since it would be so far back. So that is why I am making a new thread & here it is.

Here is a construction update as of this morning. On the 4th floor there is no construction going on. I repeat there is no construction going on. The walls that was up around the Bay View Gifts Store & Fantasia store a few weeks ago, is now gone. So you can walk around the 4th floor just like in the past. Concourse Steakhouse & the Food & Fun Center & the arcade will not be changing places until 2007 (was not given an excat date on when this would start happening) & for anyone who may not know, the arcade will be moving to the Fantasia store. So the Bay View Gifts will be 1 big store. Lastly for anyone who collects pins as of right now they are all being sold in the Fantasia store. So the clarify there is no construction going on around any part of the 4th floor, that also includes the side of where Chef Mickey's & the Concourse Steakhouse is. So as of right now it's all normal & I hope no one gets confused about this. The only renovation going on is the 14th floor, but you can not see or hear any of it & starting on October 1st the North Garden wing rooms will be closing to make room for the Disney Vacation Club buildings. The only thing I was not told is when they would be torn down.

That CM was wrong. Another good reason why CMs should stick to the script, and just say they don't know whenever they don't know or aren't authorized to say.

Bicker, the big construction isn't scheduled to begin until 2007. It was a minor rehab of the flooring outside the shops on the 4th floor that happened earlier this month and is now completed as of Aug 19.
