Breaking Amish

So how is it fake, are they not Amish/Mennoite at all, are they just actors or what? I have not seen any articles.

Only watch two episodes so far and that Rebecca chick is annoying!

They actually left the Amish life years before the show started filming. Abe and Rebecca have a child together.

Wait, what?? Reality shows aren't real????

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl:

The only reality show that I have ever seen that is somewhat based in reality is Cheer! which is a show following the Central Jersey Allstars as they work for a bid to Worlds.

They were determined to show all star cheer as realistically as possible since the TLC farce Sheer Perfection was such a joke.

Funny you say that but after visiting Lancaster for my first time a few months ago I could easily see how the Amish could have model magazines. I couldn't believe how integrated they are with the community. They were dining at restaurants, shopping at stores - you name it. And their houses! Simply beautiful and most had many conveniences that we have around our house??? It didn't seem like Amish at all.

The Amish in northwestern New York are NOTHING like that. Very traditional - what I expect Amish to be.

There is a difference between being Amish and being Mennonite. Generally, Amish do not have indoor plumbing, electricity and use horses/buggies for transportation/work.

Mennonites have electricity and indoor plumbing, and drive.

There is also a difference in the different sects of Amish. Some are VERY strict, while others are more lenient. We have Amish friends in the midwest, and they seem to follow stricter rules than what I have heard about the Pennsylvania Amish.

Does anyone remember when there was actual learning on The Learning Channel? Or History on the History Channel? Or even music on MTV?

I read something recently about "something" not being right with a cast member or two and TLC saying that they vetted as best they could but sometimes things slip by and that it would all be shown in future episodes.

Is it that Abe and Rebecca have a child? Or is it much more? And where I can read up?

Jeremiah is in his 30's, divorced with three kids and hasn't been Amish since he was 18. His exwife was offered "whatever she wanted" from TLC as hush-up money to keep quiet about his background.

Abe and Rebecca have a kid together and Sabrina is married.

That is incredibly lame than of TLC. Oh well I can cross that off the list of things to watch.

Wow! Thanks.

We have started watching that show and we like it. It really IS more like the real thing than anything I have ever seen in reality TV.

As for the Breaking Amish show. I felt like it was a fake from the very first show. First off, how would they have found these people and why in this world would you go straight from Amish country to New York City? How would they have had they money to do such a thing? They said that most of them go to school until the 8th grade so how would you even begin to think that you could leave a farm and go to a major city like that and be able to support yourself with little education? The show would have to be funding it. I don't know, but it is just to extreme to believe.

Now that it is out that it is for sure a fake, I have lost respect for TLC. They could have just done a show about their life since they left the Amish community instead of making everyone lie like that. I would have found it more interesting.

I watched 1/2 of the first episode, but had too many questions about how it could be legitimate. I didn't realize TLC admitted they were fakes.

Off to Google controversy ...

wow, I've only watched the first episode. News to me that its fake, but I shouldn't be surprised. Sigh. Time to delete all the episodes off the dvr, I guess! off to google I go. lol

So what is up with the girl with no teeth?? I really do not want to get sucked into any more mindless tv..(honey boo boo is enough) But it does having me curious...see the commerical

I think we find out in the next episode. I'm curious about the teeth, too.

This site says all the skeletons are coming out of the Breaking Amish closet (after all it is Halloween-time LOL). One is:

Just when you thought the truth behind the cast of TLC’s Breaking Amish couldn’t get any crazier! It appears that Rebecca was not only already involved with cast mate Abe Schmucker (the two of them reportedly even have a child together) prior to filming, but she ran off with Abe while married to another man.

As soon as Andy from Bravo TV hears about all this drama we'll probably see a "Real Housewives of Amish Country" :goodvibes
