School starts for us 2 weeks from Thursday and I need help with ideas for quick easy healthy breakfast foods. Last year my DD at ate school but this year she will be eating at home. Any ideas would be great.

scrambled eggs and toast cannot be much easier. oatmeal is very easy too, add raisins.
What could be easier than a bowl of cereal and some fresh fruit? Bagel and cream cheese with a little ham or just some peanut butter and a glass of juice. I slice bananas or/apples and spread peanut butter on them. Add a glass of milk and you're set.

First off...wow, you are already going back to school? Kids here just got out!!!

My DD (4) actually eats kaishi cereal and the waffles in the morning. Those are quick and generally better for you. Also, the new Kelloggs Animal Planet cereals are getting pretty good reviews. They were actually listed as the best breakfast cereal for kids in Shape magazine.

we go back in 2 weeks too...:scared1: It seems it gets earlier and earlier every year!!!

My DD likes Eggo waffles, toaster strudels, sausage biscuits, cereal, strawberry or blueberry muffins ( I make them the night before). I guess I need to make a run to Sam's and stock up since it is just around the corner.

I don't know how old your dd is, or what kind of things she likes to eat. My dsd is 13, and she loves all of the "fast food" kind of breakfasts -- sausage biscuits, breakfast burritos, etc. I was not going to McDs every day this summer, so we had to find "at home" versions.

I lucked out and found some sausage biscuits on clearance in the freezer section at the grocery store, but it would be pretty easy to make those ahead by baking a tray of biscuits (even the ones that come in a tube!) and then heating up a sausage patty. (The vegetarian versions are microwavable.)

We found some "southwestern style" Eggbeaters at the grocery store that already have onion, pepper, etc. in them, and they were very easy to scramble quickly, and then add in pre-cooked sausage and wrap into a burrito.

My son has food allergies, and is allergic to most "breakfast" foods, so I usually give him a piece of bread with jelly on it and a piece of fruit of his choice - pears, oranges, bananas - I just make sure we always have two kinds. So far he's perfectly happy with his easy breakfasts. Hopefully my luck will hold on that!

Could you feed her the same thing she eats for breakfast now?

When I was a kid we just had cereal during the week for breakfast before school. Cereal, milk and juice. Do you really need to do any more than that?

Or how about peas porridge? It is cheap, easy and you can serve it hot or cold, and it keeps well in pot for up to 9 days, I hear.

Have you never fed your child before? Feed her whatever she eats now or whatever she ate on weekends while she was eating at school.

some of our favorites here are yogurt and toast, cereal and fruit, oatmeal, bagels, english muffins, scrambled eggs, eggo waffles (or sometimes the leftover ones from the weekend), pancakes (I make a big batch and freeze them, defrost in toaster or microwave). We don't do the same thing every day cause the kids get bored. could you imagine eating the same meal every day for 7 days???

ETA: No we don't serve all of this every day either. Breakfast is our favorite meal of the day so we like to have lots of different choices.

I have never responded to something like this, but your comment was not very nice!:confused3 I am assuming that the poster may work and like my sister took advantage of the breakfast program at school??? Maybe she was looking for heathier foods or quicker foods then she is eating now without the time constraints of getting to school on time. I know I can take the time to make my kids hot breakfasts now for the summer as opposed to having them made by 6:30 a.m. before leaving for school.

Just sayin.............

Thanks for all of the good ideas. My DD is 8 and is getting harder to feed healthy items too. She would much rather have a chocolate poptart or donut.

I am trying to start the year out with healthy choices for the whole family.

My DD7  fruit smoothies! I found an easy recipe and just tweak it to whatever I have on hand. The original recipe is as follows:
1 cup vanilla yogurt (I use low fat Activia - good for the tummy)
8 oz crushed pineapple
1 banana
OJ to taste
ice
Place all ingredients in the blender and puree until smooth.

As I mentioned, I totally use whatever fruits I have (strawberries and kiwi, just bananas, watermelon, strawberries and banana). I also now add a protien pack of flavored water that you use in bottled water (Kellogs has a K20 brand and South Beach makes one as well). It adds a few extra nutrients and keeps her full as well.

It sounds like a lot of work, but takes less than 5 minutes including clean up.

We also do granola bars (the high fiber kind) and a piece of fruit. This is a quick and easy option that can even be eaten on the go.

Good luck with school starting back. We start back in three weeks! :teacher:

Waffles, dry cereal and milk to drink, muffins made on the weekend, toaster strudels, fruit.

Wow that's really harsh. I feed my kids different on the weekends/vacation than I do on school days. When my kids are home they have a lighter breakfast and a snack around 10. When they are in school they do not get a snack so I feed them something that will last until lunch. Sorry but your comment was uncalled for.

Ok for a response to the OP. On Sundays I make a huge batch of waffles then I freeze them. My kids then pop them in the toaster. I will, on occassion...when on sale, buy the precooked bacon and zap it in the micro for a few seconds...my kids love that stuff, add fruit and a glass of milk and they are set. Mornings are pretty hectic around here...my kids have a 30 minute commute to school...so I like to get things easy and premade.

I just got some of the Flat Out whole wheat Cinna-burst tortillas on sale last week. DS3 has been enjoying his "breakfast burritos". I just spread a layer of nonfat plain yogurt on the tortilla, add sliced fruit or berries, and roll it up. The whole wheat in the tortilla and the protein in the yogurt help keep him full longer.

My son is VERY picky. He doesn't like most traditional breakfast foods. What he does love is dinner leftovers. I always cook enough to have at least his breakfast extra at dinner. He will eat strogonoff, chicken, spaghetti, pretty much anything and I will add milk and a piece of fruit or juice. If we don't have leftovers he will eat a ham and cheese sandwich. :goodvibes

My kids like mini waffles and mini bagels and just cereal. I can't believe kids are already starting to go back. Good luck!!
