Breakfast Buffets?

Previously when we've visited Orlando, due to the excellent value, we've always visited Ponderosa for our breakfasts, but this time fancy trying a few other places.

I've read before about the Golden Corall, is this place as good as people seem to say? Any other recommendations?

I've also read about a really good Steakhouse on I-Drive, but can't remember the name, I seem to remember people said it's expensive but well worth it - does anybody know the name?

Thanks

Kev.

Golden Coral is lovely and so cheap. They make on order yummy omelettes. They are also worth visiting for dinner too.

Sizzler do a buffet breakfast also but I haven't tried it. I would think it would be similar to Ponderosa.

We have eaten in IHOP for brekkie which was nice but its not a buffet.

The lovely steakhouse is Charleys and yes a little pricey but so worth it. Steaks just melt in the mouth.

we did sizzler on a previous trip (as well as golden coral and ponderosa) and the breakfast buffet was good. The food is the standard fare but hot and as much as you can eat for a good price. As is common in Orlando the waiters/waitresses were friendly and didn't even get upset when my son tripped and dropped his plate of jelly all over the carpet! (Yes we did leave a generous tip whenwe had finished).

It's a little more expensive than the "run of the mill" breakfasts, but the BEST I've had was in the Wyndam on IDrive and Sand Lake Road. IMHO better food than the Disney character breakfasts at less than half the price.

The Golden Coral we used last October was excellent. Very clean, helpful staff and a vast and varied choice of food.

My 11 year old DD went up and asked for a small steak and was gobsmacked when the thing completely covered her plate. She had to go and eat half of it before there was room for any fries or mushrooms.
Highly recommended.

We have just returned from our holiday and visited both restaurants that you mention.

Charley's Steakhouse was a bit of a dissappiontment as they "Don't do fries here". The steak were nice but we thought the Outback served a tastier, juicier steak.

As you got your steak with no side order there was an extra charge for these $6 for garlic bread or vegetables.

We ordered 3 meals between 4 of us costing $120 inc the 17% service charge.

Golden Corral was the find of the holiday.

We did try a Golden corral on the 192 West a few years ago and were disappointed but were willing to try again as we had seen recommenations on this and other sites

We were in the Sunspree and the Golden corral was 2 mins away on Vineland/535.
The breakfast was far superior than Ponderosa inc large pork steaks, gammon, fried eggs all the usual hot stuff, omlettes to order, fresh fruit and the cakes were amazing, I recommend the cherry pie.
The Lunch at weekends/dinner buffet was $10 each for "All you can eat" Sirlion steak, gammon joint, Prime rib, rotisserie Chicken and guess what, more cherry pie....
The overall quality and choice at Golden Corral was exceptional and I would recommend it to anyone.

Oh well, it's off to the gym to get ready for next years holiday.

I would like to say in defence of charleys it is the best steakhouse but a bit more upmarket.

Its no hardship for us not to have fries, shulas, another steakhouse is similar in that you get nothing included and have to order side orders.

Sounds like the Golden Corral's worth a visit - anyone know the nearest to The Crossroads area at LBV?

On previous visits I have always found that Shoney's provide an excellent breakfast buffet. Very filling with a variety of choice. You should check it out.

Charleys steakhouse may in your opinion be more upmarket, but the friendliness and attitude of the server/waiter was poor at Charleys compared to all other restaurants we have tried, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock, Boston Lobster Feast, Outback Steakhouse, Longhorns, Bill Wongs, Crystal Palace and many many more. It wasn't the fact that they didn't serve fries (which wasn't a problem) it was the attitude of the server/waiter. We always tip generously but didn't like the fact the waiter asked if it would be okay to add the 17.5% service charge, rather than leaving us to tip him accordingly, maybe he realised his service/attitude was not what it should have been.

but the friendliness and attitude of the server/waiter was poor at Charleys
Charley's Steakhouse Rocks - Great Service, Great Steaks, Great Atmosphere.
You must have had a bad waiter as evertime we have dined there we got first rate service.
but didn't like the fact the waiter asked if it would be okay to add the 17.5% service charge

If the waiter was that bad and he had asked to add the 17.5% to my bill, i know what I would have said..NO
You shouldn't have to put up with bad service like that!!!

Went to Golden Corral last year for the first time. It was on the other side of I4 from Crossroads - beside Bahama Breeze I think - or very close. We were impressed as 1st time users - also frequented the Sizzlers just up from Crossroads.

Our favourite is Perkins - just look for the huge 'Stars & Stripes' at Crossroads!! Not buffet - but it does make a change to have a nice sit down breakfast. My mother-in-law was there for the 1st time 2 years ago - there were 7 of us. She was astonished to see our server take our long drawn out order and return it perfectly to the table - without writing a single thing down!!

Awesome, as our U.S. friends would say.

Sizzler wins for breakfast with us! We preferred to Golden Corral - Annie, yes, as Brian says, the nearest one to Crossroads is just over the other side of the I4 on the left - for dinner though did give it a try for breakfast.

The choice at GC is unbelievable and to be honest I found it a bit confusing (but then I do get easily confused!), never even ventured near the steaks and picked up what I thought was a hard boiled egg and it turned out to be raw!!! Obviously they cook the eggs to order as well as the steak!! :)

Have yet to try Charleys though have heard good reports, hope to put that on my list for dinner in December.

Astrid :D

Astrid,

I made it to the steak counter :bounce:

I had been in bed for 2 days with a virus - and the rest had gone to GC for the 1st time on the Saturday. I missed my Sunday Brunch at the Renaissance Resort - I'd been looking forward to that all year :( :(

I had recovered by the Monday and on being told that GC did steak and egg at breakfast - we went there and I finally ate :) :)

We have done Ponderosa, Golden Corral and Sizzler. GC wins hands down every time. Sizzler not bad but better choice with GC. Enjoy:smooth:
