There is a VERY big difference between Acculturating and Assimlating.
Actually the terms are frequently mistaken for each other because the differences are widely considered subtle.

Nobody is saying that white people do not struggle. What I'm saying is, we need to reach a fair ground and I think it's important, for the sake of race relations and making a better future, to understand that people of color face issues that white peoples in America do not face.
People jump over Jada and Spike for peacefully stating an opinion and talking about inequality they face as people of color, yet when Jennifer Lawrence belittled and taunted a man for using a translator, it seems like everyone gave her a free pass. Just saying
We just can't win.

This. A thousand times... this.Jada and Will are in a position to make opportunities available, yet they don't. They're hypocrites. The best way to make changes happen is to do something about it themselves, not stand around and complain and expect others to do it for them.
Get the ship up-righted people. This is not a debate about race relations or privilege. Get it back on track. Oscars, boycott, Mrs. Fresh Prince, discuss...
I agree that Native Americans need a lot more non stereotypical roles and recognition. However, there are still a lot of Oscar worthy movies led and directed by black men and women that deserved recognition. If the conversation is about why racial groups are being overlooked, why are we not discussing Forrest Goodluck or the other native Americans who were in The Revenant? Many critics think this film will win best picture and those actors were a big part of that film. I am willing to bet that more Oscars have been given to black actors than Indian actors. If you believe race should be considered before giving awards then native Americans are more aggrieved than blacks.
I feel that the effect on people can be the same. There is a VERY big difference between Acculturating and Assimlating.
Can you clarify for those of us discussing, are those topics to be considered out of bounds? Speaking for myself that was not my understanding.

Pretty sure these are the points we can discuss, if we want this thread to stay openCan you clarify for those of us discussing, are those topics to be considered out of bounds? Speaking for myself that was not my understanding.

I'm boycotting basketball because there aren't enough white players.
And while I'm at it, I'll boycott NASCAR because there aren't enough black racers.
And when will there be a WET (white entertainment) channel since there is a BET?
It'd be nice if we could all just get over it and stop dividing ourselves like this. It's getting harder and harder to raise your child not to see people for what's on the outside when it's constantly thrown in our faces.

Stallone was the only one nominated because he carried that film. Remove him and the movie would have been a mere shell of itself. People went to see it because of Stallone's Rocky, by and large. And he delivered. If you erased Rocky and replaced him with say, Apollo Creed's old trainers, you'd have had a movie that pulled in 10% of the audience and made 10% of the money and garnered no nominations because it would have been nothing special. Painful, but true. Stallone's aging and weary Rocky was the heart and soul of the film and he deserved that nomination. Michael B Jordan didn't suck, but he didn't wow me either. He should be thanking Stallone on a daily basis for making him look good.Creed, great movie, great performance by Michael B Jordan, black actor, black director, not nominated. Sky Stallone was for his role, though.
The film student in my family is all excited about Mad Max being nominated. I can't comment since I haven't seen it yet.Did I read that Mad Max was nominated for Best Picture? If you ask me, that is the biggest travesty right there!
