Just spotted this on the BBC website, so very sad for something like this to happen just before Christmas.

(I cant post attachments yet, but have a look on the website or on tv)

whoops sorry for reposting, I did have a little look down the page to see if anyone else had posted already.

thanks for adding a link though :)

This has shocked me. What should have been the start of a magical time has ended in tragedy.
I can even begin to think of the effect this would have on me if I was faced with similar circumstances :sad1:

Mymum just came in a told me about this, breaks your heart, haven't read the link yet but no matter what it says at the end of the day those poor parents are gonna feel terrible! such a horrible accident.

my thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I don't want to get into the ins and outs of how it happened but is there lifeguards at the pool?

OMG this is so awful :sad1:

No, there's no lifeguards there but the pool is in a glass enclosure.

I can't begin to imagine how the parents/family are feeling. This is just too terrible for words. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Ive never been so can't comment on it really, but I thought there might have been someone to watch over people in there?..theres no point with what ifs though!:sad1:

What gets me the most is that he was a twin and they said that they hated being seperated! Thats crushing!

sweet dreams wee man xx

so agree, as most twins when young live in each others pockets....

i guess sum1 must have come out the pool area for the boy to get in (never been so not sure how easy it is to get in??) and guess they cant have a life guard all the time as i guess its open round the clock??

what an awful start......

I read this earlier, absolutely tragic ... my heart goes out to the little fellas family. So sad x

A sad story:sad2:

Not sure about French law but I know in the UK it is not required to have a lifeguard in a hotel pool unlike public swimming pools.

When we have been to use the HNY pool there isn't a lifeguard present but there are warnings about this.

No life guard, I checked out the day they arrived and we were in the pool that morning. I went cold when I heard about this earlier, knowing we had been playing where he died, utterly tragic :(

I did say in my report about how shocked I was by the amount of children who seemingly had no supervision at Explorers, it did take me aback. I think because it is child friendly a lot of parents let their guard down (I am not saying this is what happened in this case). I am a tad suprised that the child was playing in the play area and went through to the pool without anyone noticing as there was always an attendent at the entrance of the pool when we were there, so that is odd that he wasn't stopped. When we were in the pool with our boys (absolutely no WAY would I allow them in without us being present, they may be 7 and 8 and can swim, but I like to err on the side of caution!) there were other children in the pool and their parents were watching through the glass - IMHO not close enough to the action to actually DO anything if your child got into difficulties.

Utterly tragic news :(

:sad2: OMG i heard on the radio, but it just said "paris" didnt state where

we were @ the explorers 2 wkends ago ( didnt use the pool) and like mentioned was an attendent at the entrance to the pool

i think there should also be lifeguards in ALL pools

so many lives could be saved if there was

thinking of his family at this awful time :(

We had a really close call at the Sequioa lodge a few years back.

I had taken our 2 dds out of the pool against their wishes, they cant get enough of the water. I had bundled them in to the shower taken off their swimming bands , gone about 10 paces away to the locker for towels , turned around and my 5 year old gone:scared1: Spent probably 30secs to 1 min checking very small changing rooms and saunas in an unfamliar lay out. before grabbing other d and running out to the pool. And there she was forgetting she had no arm bands on ,trying to swim out of her depth get to her Daddy (who hadnt seen her ) going under and up under and up. I was trying to get to her and screaming to her and my DH (who was oblivious). Thank God a German gent pulled her to the side, where I could wade in with my 3 year old and give her a good old fashioned public telling off !!! My DH got one too for good measure for not hearing or seeing ..parents eh:confused3
The pool was busy and noisey , the life guard / staff member was sitting on the side of the pool on a sun bed talking to guest. I think rules are different in Hotel pools. I truely think in my case it was just one of those things, no ones fault but my own I guess .

A Hideous Horrendous thing to happen. My blood ran cold when I thought of that poor poor little boy and his family. There but the grace of God.....

How scary for you. I can completely understand how it happened in your case, children can be darn fast! Thing is in Explorers you go past the desk, then through changing rooms, then you have to go through the foot pool which is not just a puddle, it is a substantial size - quite poss, I suppose, they had been there before and the little guy knew the way to the pool. It will be interesting to hear the full details when they come out as as a parent, if I can learn anything helpful from a tragedy like this, and the hotels can, something positive can come out of it (I hope I have worded that correctly!) :(
