Boxer puppies - Anyone know?

I've been thinking about adopting a boxer puppy from a local shelter. I don't know much about boxers, but I think they are absolutely adorable.

What kind of dogs are they? Are they known to be hyper? Do they bite alot? Are they playful? Do they like to cuddle?

I'm a sucker for a cute dog. I want a dog that will be good around kids, obedient, fun and likes to cuddle up on the couch (I sound like I'm looking for a date.)

IMHO you will absolutely adore this dog. We got one in June he was 8 weeks old and I just love him. They do need to be exercised regularly and are 70 pound lap dogs. Great temperment and wonderful with children. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

My DH grew up with his boxer, Ponto, which his family got when DH was 2 months old.


They were inseperable.

Boxers are great family dogs, very patient with children.

Sadly, Ponto developed cancer at age 9 and had to be put down. DH, on the other hand, lasted a bit longer.

For a breed that looks like it should be standing guard at the gates of hell, I'm told it is actually a very good breed for children. Obviously, this may vary between individual dogs.

My DSis has rescued 3 Boxers now ...or "Stubby tails" as DD calls them!

They are great dogs, friendly and good with kids for the most part. They do have some trouble with disease and can have hip/joint problems.

Research the rescue places as much as you would any breeder. I feel sorry for my DSis, the place she rescued the first two dogs from lied about their ages and medical condition. They had their first Boxer for only 18 months and the second one is in failing health. They do have a puppy, registered AKC and abandoned at 10 weeks, so with luck, they will have this one longer.

Fabulous dogs around children, even children who tend to play too rough with puppies. Not a fan of them myself (Toy Poodle lover here ) but I've seen how gentle and loving they are and have to give them a huge thumbs up!

My sister has 2 and they are fabulous dogs.

Would definately tick all the boxes....very fun loving, great with kids, my sis says they are the peter pan of pups....always young at heart.

I just lost my precious Boxer to heart failure. She was a wonderful member of our family..........and we continue to grieve for her each day.

I think a Boxer would be a wonderful addition to your family. I recommend you getting a Boxer............I think he/she would bring much joy to your life aw:

I grew up with a boxer. We got her when I was 4 and had to put her down when I was 18. I rode on her back when I was little. I pulled her nub, her ears (weren't docked) and everything a child could do to get a dog to bite them and she never would. They are incredible watch dogs (really scaredy cats as could be proven by the rabbit that chased by 85 lb boxer around the yard) and extremely loyal. They are fabulous animals!

DH's family had a boxer when he was small. One afternoon, when DH was a toddler, his Mom was in the yard talking to a neighbor. DH started to crawl into the street, so their boxer grabbed him by the diaper and pulled him back in the yard. DH said he was a wonderful family dog.

I love boxers. My aunt raised them when I was a kid, and there was never a grumpy on in the bunch! Not even the mama's. They loved us, and watched out for us too! Awesome dogs.

Boxers are great with kids and like any creature they each have their habits and quirks. Our female will only lick younger DS12 and is very protective of DH. When she playfights she rolls her lips over her teeth so she's not actually biting anyone. She loves to run but was trained to stay in the yard with a shock collar. She tolerates the cat, meaning she'll give him a lil chase if he goes outside but she's never done anything to him. She does get jealous if DH pets the cat or the male boxer and squirms her way onto his lap. The male is sort of a rescue we're like his 4th home I think. He's about the same age as the female and he loves to eat boxes. Not sure why he eats the boxes and not the stuff in them. He was a slow learner when it came to learning to play but he's adjusted quite well and fits in great with our family. He too thinks he's a lapdog but he'll settle in on the dog bed sooner than the female.
