Is there such a thing as "good" boxed wine? Looking for a nice white wine.

Thanks

I find Franzia to be surprisingly "drinkable". Their chardonnay is something I can drink. It isn't great, but it will do. It is barely acceptable.

I go for the Zinfandel IF I have to do a box.

Lately my brother introduced me to Moscato (not in a box, lol). Not bad.

No! Buy some bottles of Sauvignon Blanc or Reisling. Visit a wine purveyor.

There are some decent boxed wines. Go to your local liquor store and they can help you out. I drink Bota Box at home all of the time. It's cost effective and pretty decent, IMO. I remember years ago thinking it was crazy for my MIL to have her box of Franzia, but boxed wines have come a long way since then.

I've heard good things about Bota Box, I haven't tried it myself. I need to do so over Christmas.

Personally, Chardonnay is my thing in white. I do like Sauvignon Blanc at times too. Dry wines are my own preference. Of course everybody has their own things for sure... that's what makes it all fun :)

Although, I don't really like sweet, Moscato is good in very small servings on occasions few and far between (for me). I think my problem with sweet wine is, I drank a whole bottle of white zinfandel once. I got what I deserved for doing that:rotfl2:

I respectfully, and completely, disagree. Just like the cork versus twist on cap debate, there are a lot of great wines in a box.

I agree. My BIL works for a local vineyard that sells sort of high endish wine (he majored in viticulture and we all thought he was insane--but he got his dream job). He says that one of the biggest determiners of value and price on wine is the thickness of the bottle glass and the quality of the label printing. Sad, but true. There is a lot of crap in bottles, and there are decent (though not "fine") wines in boxes.

True. In blind tasting, inexpensive wines (including boxed) have been rated just as high and higher than more expensive wines. Honestly, I've had some really bad expensive wine before. Wine is also an individual taste and if you like it, it doesn't matter if it comes from a box or is $5/bottle. Wine snobs drive me crazy.

IMO box wine is great in any brand. I also buy 2 bottle package wine at Sam's the we like. My Brother has drank boxed wines for years and save lots over bottled.

I really like Big House Red and Big House White in boxes. I'll also drink the Target brand in a pinch.

The best wine is not determined by the package, but by the taste. And what you like, I may not, and I like you may not. Not a thing wrong with that. We live 40 miles from the Lodi wine region, and went wine tasting yesterday. I have been to at least 50 wineries in that area tasting, and I have not yet met a winemaker who was offended if you poured out something you didn't like. And so many of the Lodi wineries are small, often the winemaker is the one doing the pouring in the tasting rooms.

I buy Bota Box, Black Box and FishEye.All have been much better quality than the Franzia brand. Any of 3 liter boxes like the ones I have listed are generally better quality than the cheaper 5 liter boxes. I do agree that taste is highly subjective though. I was at a party the other evening wishing for a glass of my box Merlot. The higher priced bottles of Pinot Noir the host was pouring was just not appealing to me. I am starting to see (and buy) some really good Italian reds in a box ( most box wine is American or Australian).

We like Bota Box when we're drinking boxed wines. We typically keep a Pinot Griggio and a Sharaz on hand for when we just want a glass with a meal.

I buy Black Box wines, and they are good. I have not bought the whites becasue we drink more red, but we like this brand

I like Corbett Canyon for chardonnay and Bota Box for Merlot.
