Box Office Discussion

Soo....you would pull the plug and not risk it.

That's Star Wars, you fool...

Normal rules don't apply to Star Wars...

But I'll say this...if they make "ehh"
Grade crap like they seem desperate to do with marvel going forward...then the backbone Of Star Wars fans (oh yeah...in their 40's that will have the money for the next 30 years...) will turn on them and start lining these up next to attack of the clones.

Star Wars was always an opportunity and a risk for Disney.

When the reviews came out for force awakens...I read "Star Wars is back!!" And "the force is strong with this one!"

On the cover of the nyt and USA today...I was on cloud nine for 12 hours (without assistance)...

Then the next morning I couldn't shake the feeling that I had imagined that...

Happy...but...something...not...quite...

Another point I feel needs brought up...making a movie is not as time or resource consuming as it once was. Don't believe me? Make an iMovie on your Mac. Anyone can make an amateur production these days.

Yes, the studios put out movies which are far more polished than what most of us can do on our computers with free software and footage generally shot on telephones. However, the speed of doing so goes up greatly, which leads to more movies coming out. Not everyone is going to gravitate to every film, and the hype beasts usually get all the attention.

Star Wars will get more attention since the fan base was already disappointed with the prequels. Disney needs to make sure the older fans can come back and the younger fans will enjoy it. I enjoyed Force Awakens and am looking forward to the new films coming out. I'm a little mixed on the number of Star Wars films coming out as a whole (Rogue One, the Han Solo series) but am still going in with an open mind. (This coming from someone who has been a Star Wars fan since age 8).

HaHa, names-yea it usually goes there when someone has nothing else.

Normal rules don't apply to Star Wars...

Star Wars wouldn't currently exist if not for Iger/Disney, just sayin.

Those 40 something "adults" would just have to get over it.

Star Wars was always an opportunity and a risk for Disney.

No doubt, a risk only they/he took. And $2 Billion (and signing Ford) out of the gate isn't a bad start. Someone else (if they had the guts to try) could have already ruined it.

And it is back, in a big way thanks to Iger/Disney.

Ahh so there's the rub-I get it now. #stompsfeet

Its OK to admit you want to see Rogue one, you think its a good idea to make Rogue One and revisit yesteryear and Vadar, that its well worth the risk and you are glad someone has the guts to take that risk.

It wasn't a name call...it's called a "joke". What strange land do you hail from where these things are forbidden?

If not them...somebody else would have bought. I'll just assume you got nothing and this IS a joke

Again..."ask your doctor if a sense of humor is right for you..."

Covered above...
It was real tough...
when Conan O brien (might have been Fallon...can't remember) asked ford if he got "all nostalgic" when he put his costume on...fords response was "no...I got paid"

Real tough...
That movie was done overall pretty well...I liked it on the whole...especially the look/feel and the traditional effects.
But "gutsy"?

No...not at all. Come on.

That is what he likes to do...I'm sure fox, Comcast, and Warner brothers would have had ZERO interest in buying lucasfilm...what would be in it for them? It's not like they have licensed over $50
Billion in products just off Star Wars or anything...

Ahh so there's the rub-I get it now. #stomps feet

Hmmm...I can't help you if you don't want to help yourself...gotta take a breath here and expand horizons...

(Yes...I'm talking about the classic Epcot ride...before fastpass)

See? Jokes are fun ;)

This is either a. Argumentative with no goal. Or b. Written by a non-star wars fan who doesn't get it.

it is a risk. But not the way you think.
You think financing the production is hard? When it's Star Wars? That's laughable.
Here is the risk: Many core Star Wars fans still are in shock from prequels. This movie can't be bad...it will dredge all that old disappointment back up. And if the next movie is thin "emotionally"...it will tell many of us what we feared: that Star Wars is locked in time in 1980. And what we all thought coulda been just the beginning of our favorite pop culture stories was actually the end. That's 30 years of pent up thought...

Don't underestimate what is going on here...

You'd probably say "it made $400 million at the box office"...

So did the prequels...and they did as
Much harm as good to those that have the money to spend on the franchise...

...which is all your fastpass hero Iger cares about.

Are we good here?

No Iger, no Star Wars, no Rogue One.

How do you know that though? George Lucas has always been a Disney fan and been involved with the company even prior to Iger. Who's to say that if someone else was CEO even Eisner they wouldn't have bought Star Wars? I think they would've no matter who the CEO was.

And there's the rescue (attempted) right on time like clock work. Let the deleting start.

I will take the sure thing over what "might" have happened.

Where did I say financing was a risk?

Here is the risk: Many core Star Wars fans still are in shock from prequels. This movie can't be bad...it will dredge all that old disappointment back up. Thank you for making my exact point. That IS the risk with Rogue One.

Now you can say nobody in their right mind would risk that, or you can say you are glad to see somebody take the risk.

Its one or the other.

Don't underestimate what is going on here...

You'd probably say "it made $400 million at the box office"...

I don't understand what you are trying to get at. Do you know anything about the history of George Lucas and the Disney company? Maybe you need to do some research. Bob Iger didn't create the relationship it was there long before him.

This is actually in the same response a few lines apart.

You cannot prove it would have happened either.

I will take the sure thing, and give credit where it is due.
Its almost 99% George Lucas would've sold Lucasfilm to Disney before any other company because Disney is a company he trusts and is a fan of. George has been to every single theme park opening since Disneyland in 1955. George has done numerous projects for and with the Disney company.

By the way I look forward to seeing you post this every time somebody says something that cannot be proven going forward:

You cannot prove that whatsoever.

I admit it might have happened, probably would have happened who knows when and what would be done with it though?

The only thing either/any of us can prove-is it DID happen with Iger, and what we are seeing (take it or leave it, good or bad) is because of him.

He is taking a risk with Rogue One IMO, not financial but with the franchise, and I'm glad he is-compared to not taking that risk and just waiting for Episode VIII.

Folks can be mad it's (Star Wars investment) working out well (or claim it isn't) under Iger, but it's just sour grapes and axe grinding IMO.

I am not talking about what would've been done with it I am talking about if the deal would've been done with a different CEO. You seem to have a problem with discussing anything theoretical. This is a discussion board we can and should discuss What Ifs, however you always avoid those.

I also don't know how he is taking a risk with Rogue One. Its Star Wars is one of if not the largest franchises in the world. You could create a movie about Chewie's long lost 3rd cousin and people would go see it because its star wars.

Might have been, it was for sure done with Iger.

I always avoid theoretical? What ifs? You mean like in theory or what if another CEO might not have even made the deal? Or another CEO might not have landed Ford? Or another CEO might not have created the top grossing movie in America of all time? Or that another CEO might not have deiced on a trilogy? Or another CEO might not have decided to also make extra prequel back stories?

Since your not following along, I will let LOL cover that for you.

Honestly...I liked the Alice sequel better than jungle book.

I can't believe it did as well as it did.

I just my think Disney shouldn't be doing sequels to these re-Imagined movies. Alice 2 flopped because nobody wanted a sequel and while people loved Jungle book, I don't think there's a demand for a sequel.

I was so relieved when Disney bought Lucasfilm. Even though Disney is a business like any other, they do put the right people in place to make something that the fans want and is real to what the franchise is.

Can bear to think what would have happened if Warner Brother For example had bought the IP.

Star Wars is a galaxy that could span hundreds of films and TV series if they wanted and that's what I hope they do. Surprised a live action to series hasn't been re-announced yet.

Might have been, it was for sure done with Iger.

Oh by the way, let me get that for you.

I give up you are getting ridiculous.
