Bouquet size?

We are having an over the phone planning session.

So...

How did you explain to DFTW which size bouquet you wanted for yourself and your Bridesmaids?

I don't want to overwhelm them with loads of photos.

I'm guessing just saying 'large' or 'medium' isn't really going to be very helpful to them.

I'm just guessing but you could try by saying how many flowers you want in the bouquet?

It's best to overload them with photos. It really makes it that much easier because then they know exactly what you want and you dont' get surprised. Make sure to write what you like specifically about each photo.

I wasn't given an option on size - we met Laura at Francks and she just asked about my height and what shape I wanted. I thought the size of mine was fine. Honestly be as specific as possible with as many pictures as you can.

Also keep in mind that if you want the mickey closures you have to ask for them.

People also tend to have problems with the flowers being the wrong color. If you want something specific make it as clear as possible.

I would think a good "rule of thumb" is about 18-24 roses for a typical bouquet. I've heard of some that have almost 3 dozen, but that would be much too heavy for my tastes!

If you are working with Rosie, rest assured she is amazing. Pictures will help but she has a great eye!

I'm having a gerber daisy bouquet. I told Rosie I wanted a smaller bouquet that wasn't super heavy...so she recommended 35 blooms. Of course I have no idea what that looks like and she emailed me a picture of a recent bouquet with that many blooms.

If you ask the florist they might also have a picture that can relate how many blooms to what it looks like. I thought 35 blooms would be way too many, but it turns out to be the perfect size when actually put together. She said for this particular flower, they have to stack a lot on top of each other to fill in the holes.

I told them how many dozens I wanted which was 5!!!! It was VERY heavy I wouldn't recomand anyone carrying one that heavy I serouisly got a work out and my arms were sore!! My florist actually said it was the biggest they had ever done!! Here's a picture of it

The type of flower has a lot to do with the actual number of blooms you need for a certain size bouquet obviously so you need to keep that in mind. From what I was told (back when I was planning), the typical French Rose bouquet from Disney floral (what I had) had 36 roses.

Personally, I think it's best that a bouquet is in proportion to the bride. It looks funny when a petite bride has a ginormous bouquet or vice-versa. Give your measurements/size to your floral designer along with a few pics of bouquet sizes you like. I don't think you need to inundate your florist with photos...they are professionals and do this for a living so you need to express your ideas and trust them enough to carry out your vision.


**If you really are concerned on the size- Maybe a kinda cooky way to figure out what diameter bouquet suits you best is to go to a craft store and hold up those crafting styrofoam balls and take a pic. Send the diameter measurements along with everything else.

At my planning session Laura told me that a normal bouquet size was 8-9 inches in diameter. I told her that I wanted something slightly larger because I'm not a small girl and I didn't want my flowers to look tiny compared to my sz 16 body. She told me that the slightly larger size would be 10-11 inches in diameter.

I had my planning session a little over 3 weeks ago and am still waiting for my BEO. Now i am nervous though because we didnt even talk about size we got to wrapped up in flowers. I wanted a smaller size so things may need to be changed.

I think maybe me measuring diameter will be the smartest thing to do.

OK, so I just used the very precise and professional technique of making a ball out of a fleece blanket to the size I wanted and measuring those.

Turned out 11 inches for me and 7/8 for my bridesmaids.

Anyone else had similar sizing?

I didn't upgrade, I loved my bouquet so much.

I had 3 dozen roses, but 1 dozen of those, the red roses, were "spray roses" so they were smaller than the ivory ones. It was very heavy but gorgeous!
