It's a lot easier to make this modification than it was to put all the names on the originals.
Lynne,

Thank you for all your hard work.

But I know others join me in this sentiment: Do yourself a favor and keep simple.

No one will be happy if you burn out before the cruise.

Woody

I'm with Woody here. Whatever is easiest, although I really like the looks of the newly designed ones.

On my previous post, I just checked. It is Cupcake's room that we got! Thank you, Cynthia, for abandoning this room for us!
Ann

The new Nametags look great! I can't wait to see mine! In fact... Would you be wlling to send me mine and DH's (or you may not have made one for him, he prviously opted out) so that I can make door signs out of them?

Thanks for all the work you have put into this trip. Before you came along we were like a pirate crew with out a captain!

Woody: your Portuguese of the day made me laugh out loud this morning.
Lynne: beautiful nametags-are you by chance procrastinating on doing taxes?

My current packing question: fit in the small fan we like for ambient noise in the room, or take it out to make room for small bottles of wine?

I vote for fan all the way! You can always uy wine on the ship, but I haven't seen them selling fans in Mickey's Mates.

Hi, We just discovered DIS. We are all excited about seeing what everone is doing to prepare for the trip. Can you tell me where to start in regards to the magnets? Thanks bunches.

:welcome: Disneyana's Aunt! Glad to welcome another cruiser, this is a great group of folks that I have hope you enjoy as much as I have for the past few months ( I was new to this not too long ago). FUN!:thumbsup2

Slcmom....glad dinner finally turned out!

Happy morning all!

i know my hubbis is just now getting excited too..do you have a face book..we have a link on there too

I'm keeping the red for the non-DISers (tag-alongs). But the whole thing was too busy. And all the info was already on the lanyards - a bit redunandant. So I cleaned it up - I really wanted the 3 figures in the port holes to stand out, along with the ship & scroll (and sometimes Donald).

It's a lot easier to make this modification than it was to put all the names on the originals. (Mind you, I'm not complaining - I knew what I was getting myself into :goodvibes).

Here is the comparison (new on the left):

0001JD.jpg

I think the ones on the right look great. I agree with you that they look a bit less cluttered. (Not that there was anything wrong with the other ones. I think we would have all been happy with them too.) Having myself and my DH as artists I understand the need to tweek, re-tweek, start over, tweek again...:rotfl:

To all that thanked me for the tipping guidelines, you are more then welcome.

On another note, I just heard an NPS story about Q fever in the Netherlands. I hope Yvette and Emiel have managed to avoid it.
We are safe, it's in a part of The Netherlands that we don't visit and it's about 100 miles away from our home.
Thanks for your concern....

party: Welcome, Disneyana's Aunt.

Aunt Lynne--my preparations list is almost identical to yours. And I'm not doing one tenth of what you're doing for everyone else. Thanks for all your efforts.

Questions (that may have been answered already):

1. Does anyone know what Disney charges for currency exchange?

2. Will medical center monitor my blood pressure or have equipment I can use? (My doc is trying to find the right combination or meds for me.) I can bring my own cuff if necessary.

I promised that I would pass on what I found out about the international calling cards. Went to Target last night and it was one type of international card. None that were for only certain countries. It was a $20 card. You can use it for both a land line and cell phone but your carrier might charge you an extra fee. I hope that helps anyone that was considering getting one. We did just in case, and worse case scenario that we don't use it... we have friends doing the Med. cruise two weeks after we get back and parents that are doing the WB Transatlantic so I am sure one of them could use it.

Got (I think) all of the last minute stuff purchased, including a new outfit for me and a couple of shirts and a top for my DH. They had some great sales at Bealls. Now I have to figure out what we are taking and start packing. Oh I have a bunch of stuff in the suitcase but it is all thrown in willie-nillie.

I have Rick Steves' "Portuguese Phrase Book" from a prior trip.

Depending on your plans in Madiera, this might come in handy:

"Se nao for mais devagar, vou vomitar."
If you don't slow down, I'll throw up.

Woody

I have just decided that for future travels to foreign countries, when I am learning a handful of words in their local language, this is what I am going to learn. If I can only form one sentence in their language, that's probably the one I want. :lmao:

Thanks, Woody!!
Staci

If there's still room, we'd like to join in on the fish extender. We're new to DIS and just learned about this. Thanks

Welcome, Disneyana's Aunt! Hope you followed the spreadsheet link and joine FE3. How many of you are there?

Clothes packed - NOPE!

Packing list complete - NOPE!

Sure of which suitcase to use? NOPE!

Taxes (2 Federal, 2 State, 1 Estimated 2010) done - NOPE!

Bedroom painted (started in 2009) - NOPE!

Rome itinerary determined - NOPE!

Name tag design satisfaction - NOPE!

Passport current - YEP!

Is it just going to magically :wizard: happen - you'd certainly think that!

I'm banking on the "magic", too! And I don't have to worry about Rome, but DO need to book a hotel in Barcelona yet. And painting? HA! - bathroom just got finished after 2 years - others not even on my radar yet.

Woody, thanks for sticking with important stuff:thumbsup2:rotfl2:

I already penciled in this phrase, which was, strangely, missing in our Lonely Planet phrasebook!

Awww I taught kindergarten in NYC. I have an undergraduate degree i theater. Maybe we can get some kids together and I will write a play and the kids will perform for the parents. My guy friend that I am travelling with is a magician. It would be great to put together a show for the parents featuring the kids on the cruise. Then your son won't feel like he is missing out.
Please let me know what you think!! :goodvibes

I have a very dramatic four year old who will be ALL over that Natlee.
I also have an 11 and 14yr old who will be missing a week and may need some help along the way. Their work will come home begining of the week we leave (from the teachers who are willing to send it ). So we shall see.
Thank you for the offer though; that is very kind of you. :teacher:

Being gone for a day leaves a lot to catch up on!

One of my goals for this trip was to start a blog too. Here it is, not too exciting yet but neverless will be once we start our journies!

How do I get to the main Plaza in Cadiz from the Port to catch the HOHO bus?

Like pp poster said literally RIGHT OUTSIDE the cruise gates. There are 2 color buses, one that does HOHO and one that is just a tour with no stops. The guys trying to sell it to you will tell you which one one is which. 3 years ago HOHO was green.

This group is limited to 10 cabins.

I should have waited for this group....:rotfl: JK but the thought of 10 cabins sounds nice!

DH and I went and picked up our shirts for Pirate night! :cool1:

:thumbsup2

Not to start anything (really, please). Thought you might be interested to see that DCL doesn't always give out consistent info (they are just humans; if the Mouse were in charge, well, that might be different). Note that the cancellation fee wording is for a dinner reservation (and this is a brunch one - I'm just saying :rolleyes1)

I am the contact for the Palo Brunch on the MED cruise. Received email confirmation today, with the following.

Palo Policy:
* Age: Guest must be 18 years or older to dine at Palo.
* Dress Code: Cruise casual wear suggested. (emphasis mine)
No shorts, swimwear, tank tops or blue jeans are permitted.
* Cancellation: Cancellation fees - 100% of the Palo Dining Option is applied to the Guests’ folio, when the Guests do not show or have not cancelled by 2:00 PM the night the reservation is confirmed.
* Smoking – is not permitted

DCL has always been like this. DH has NEVER worn a tie to Palo, brunch or dinner. He always wears a collared shirt and khaki's to brunch (as do most others) and JUST wears a button up shirt to dinner...NO TIE, NO JACKET. He follows the guidelines that are set. He does not wear a jacket bc we don't pack one. He bring his military uniform and that thing weighs enough. If he had to bring a jacket for Palo he would but since he doesnt we don't.

Maybe the read this thread and changed the wording after World War III that we had here... :lmao::lmao::lmao:

That's so sweet. Happy anniversary! :cheer2:You've been married longer then I have been alive:scared1::rotfl:

Love it!

A suggestion for last minute packing- An international calling card for emergencies. That way you aren't going to be stuck paying a high rate for calling someone internationally.

We got our at Costco. We have had it for three years now and use it on all our vacations.

Dear Parents,

I will be on the Transatlantic cruise from April 10-24. I am a New York State certified teacher who is available to tutor kids of all ages. I have a Masters degree as well. I have tutored kids of all ages. I work as a freelance set tutor teaching child actors on different tv shows.

Please feel free contact with any questions. Thanks!!

:banana: I also posted on FB....would love to know more!

No worries! My DS is in french emersion (grade 2) and DH nor I speak french. DS has to keep a journal but Im sure we can muddle through with his knowledge and a english/french dictionary! :thumbsup2 :teacher: :)

You should request servers from France...maybe that could help. :thumbsup2

My DS is in kindergarten also, but he's only missing 6 1/2 days because of school vacation and a half day BUT it's a full day kindergarten and I'm not sure how thrilled they are about it (I also had him out 6 days in Oct for Disneyland ).I wish it was the letter of the day- He's expected to read a simple book by June:eek:. He's excited for the trip but he's not too thrilled to miss school- if he ends up missing something special ( like a field trip ) I will not make Mother of the Year ! Isnt it funny that we feel bad about taking our 5yr olds out of school for the trip of a lifetime with great learning, fun, and family time...? What HAS the world come to...:rotfl: !!

Last TA dd was in Kindergarten...we missed her K graduation for the trip but it was sooooooo worth it!!!!

But think, you'll miss the adrenaline rush of staying up all night the night before madly trying to accomplish everything before the plane leaves. I'm not sure I'd know how to begin a trip in any other way...

This is exactly what I am trying to avoid! It happens every time...but not this time! 2 out of the 8 suitcases are packed already!

OK, I know the info is out there somewhere. I looked at the 1st couple of pages but didn't see it there. Michelle2, I know YOU know this...is there a set number of Secret Mickey gifts? Didn't it say 4 or 5 or something? Thanks,
Ann

What I remember was 5 throughout, and a 6th one at the reveal for $30

I foudn it hard to stay in this range?? anyone else?

Very much so and our family has 4! :scared1: It has been a blast though! So excited to start handing out the gifts!!!!

Oh yeah!!!! DD LOVES theatre....kind of our life here!!! YIPPEEEEE!

Natlee58

I am a retired elementay teacher and taught k-3 and would love to help if you get a group together.

:thumbsup2

Hi Everyone,
I just discovered DIS! Though not new to Disney at all! We are going on our 5th Disney Cruise in a couple of weeks, Transatlantic.

Can you tell me how to get started on the magnets? I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and learning from your experiences.

:welcome:

I have a tour scheduled and the woman just emailed me that
Apparently Disney Magic has changed docking time in our port from 10:30am to 8:45am.

I wonder if it is bc of the Flower Festival?!?!?!

I still need to decide on what OBC I want to add to my account before we go and estimate how much money we will need.

I too am debating over this...

Here is the comparison (new on the left):

I like the new but I think you should go with whatever you like!
