Bouncing Back to the Bayou --- an August 2013 PTR

The Caribe Royale!! OH MY GOODNESS!! What a beautiful hotel it was! :worship: Its made up of a reception building and 3 towers. We were in Tower 2, Room 2336 on the third floor. From our window we could see the Convention Center where the girls are going to be. Nice. :goodvibes As soon as we entered the lobby the girls started seeing the popular YouTubers! They were freaking out! :hyper: It was too cute! I didnt expect to see the stars out walking amongst the people. I know that probably sounds a bit weird, but I didnt expect them to be normal people who just happen to make videos for You Tube. We got settled in our room and heaven forbid Victoria be seen without her makeup on :rolleyes1 (this will only be the third time in history this child wears makeup, but oh, to see YouTubers, we HAD to have our makeup on!!) I applied her makeup at her demand, I mean request, and off to the café for a bite of lunch. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS!!! :headache: I guess Im just used to being on the dining plan and not paying for food. Ugh! I didnt take any food porn pics this trip. Sorry guys. After lunch the girls wanted to go stalking, I mean walk around and see who they could spot so thats what they did while Peter and I hung around the pool for the afternoon. This evening would be dinner at Downtown Disney!!! Here are some of the pics&.

 Ann! How could you forget about the issue you had with glitter the last time you went to Orlando? :lmao: The guys giving the pat-downs must be cute ;) I’m glad you guys made it through security on time. That seemed like a really close one! That is wonderful that Kali and Victoria are such good friends! You can see the excitement in their faces! I wish True would adhere to the “pee before you go” rule! She always “forgets” and ends up having to use the bathroom just about anywhere we go – on a plane, in the movies, at the grocery store Ugh! Anyway, I am glad that you had good flights! How adorable that the girls were freaking out about the YouTube celebs! One day, if the YouTubers become famous, they’ll have pictures with them and can say they knew them way back when! Really cool! Wow, you had a fantastic view from your floor! Gorgeous!

What?? They moved the M.E.??? Are you sure you weren't on the other concourse? I'm sure there will be signs up and it will have a new map in the ME packet when we get them for August.....I hope.

I've heard lots of good things about Caribe Royale...glad you liked it!

I've heard lots of good things about Caribe Royale...glad you liked it!

Now I could have been in the wrong concourse but I thought it was B??? Again, I'll have to go look. Maybe I was just too excited to actually be there. :confused3.....ok, so I'm editing this to let you all know I just checked out the map of MCO. They haven't changed it. Apparently I was in the A concourse....grrrrrr.......

Oh, and your guide maps went in the mail today!!!!

It was there just a little over a month ago? I bet you were turned around and on A and didn't realize???

Erin, I think Ann forgot about the sparkly shirt b/c she does not OWN a shirt that isn't sparkly! ;)

The girls look like they are super excited! So fun that they were meeting their celebs! :goodvibes

Great mini-update on spring break! I think you should title one of your trip reports 'serial pat downer'. Every TR I've read of yours you get pulled aside :)

That resort pool looks mighty nice.....

I got to upload a few of our AZ spring break pictures to my PTR. If anything to remind myself what sun & warmth felt like last week. Since it's cold and dreary and YUCKY here!!!

DOWNTOWN DISNEY, ANYONE??

So, we were all back in the room at 3pm and we needed to leave for DTD by 4pm. Again we were able to snag a town car for our journey!! I LOVE, LOVE LOVE having someone hail down transportation for me. I love being spoiled like that!! The cost of the ride was $22 with fare and tip and he dropped us off on the West Side.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8595237087/

We had to hoof it on over to the Rainforest Café for our 5pm ressies. It had started sprinkling at this point, so we hoofed it a bit quicker than normal. We ended up being a bit early but they were able to take us right in. Yay! We were seated in the gorilla room with screaming gorillas and one lone cheetah. I was hoping Peter would be blown away by the atmosphere, but I think he was too hungry to be impressed. I thought the gift card I had was for $50, but surprise it was only for $25. Ugh. Bad calculation on my part. GRR!!! :headache: It ended up being a pretty expensive meal for me. Total was $110 for 4 plus tip. I had brought $400 in cash but so far I was running through it pretty quickly.

The girls wanted to just walk around tonight and not do much shopping. We came across a singer by Margarita Bar so we sat and listened to him for a while. After he was done his set I went up and asked him if he had a Facebook page. He does and now Victoria and I have friended him!

Look at their faces…..they weren’t smitten with him or anything, huh? While the girls were listening to him, I was able to go pick a pearl at the little stand that’s right there. I ended up getting a nice pinkish-white 6mm one. I’m always hoping for twins, but not this time. I should have taken a picture of it, but alas, I didn’t. Of course I had to hit up Pin Traders and I was able to buy some pins (including a Limited Edition New Fantasyland box set) and trade some of my older ones. Aaaaaah, pin trading………I’m home! :cloud9: Victoria was embarrassed that I was pin trading already, but she got over it pretty quickly. I think I have Kali hooked on pins though! Hee Hee!!! :rolleyes1 She and I spent a lot of time in there while Peter and Victoria waited for us. They look happy to be waiting, huh?

Love this shot!!! Nothing like Peter in his element ---- yawning!!! LOL!

After dinner it was still sprinkling a bit and there were dark clouds looming overhead….ugh oh! This is not looking too promising for my plans…..and we all know what my plans were, right? My grand plan of going to Poly to watch wishes and do a monorail loop? My grand plan of stopping at Grand Floridian and Poly to “just visit”? Yeah, those plans…..poof….up in the air they went. First of all no one wanted to stand out in the rain to watch the fireworks and Peter didn’t want to stay up until almost midnight to accomplish this. (by the time Wishes was over 10:30pm and we got transportation to the hotel it would probably be that late.) Really Peter?? And what exactly do you have to get up and do in the morning? OH yeah, that’s right ---- NOTHING!!!!! :upsidedow Fine, whatever. Sometimes he is just a big ole stick in the mud! So, we ended up heading back to our hotel around 7pm. The girls wanted to go stalking once again, so that’s what they ended up doing. The curfew was to be back in the room by 10pm and they honored that. When we did get back to the room we had a lovely gift of chocolates waiting for us. It was from the hotel itself because I had liked their page on Facebook! Yummy!! I’ll like anyone on FB for chocolate!! Hee Hee!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8595234671/

Peter and I ended up just watching tv. Yeah, ooooh, I’m excited now! But hey, I was in Orlando, close to my precious Disney, and warm weather. I was good.

Holy cow, Victoria looks so different with make up on.

I love pin trading too. Like - LOVE. I ended up taking corkboard and covering it in fabric and hanging it up so I can display all my pins to see instead of putting them away between trips. Helps me justify the cost some... :)

Great update!

I promise to get to replies soon, but I want to get updates done while I can!!;)

Saturday, March 21st
I slept ok. The beds were really comfy but my poor toe was still throbbing so it woke me up at about 3am. I was able to get back to sleep but only until 6am. I looked over to Kali and Victoria’s bed and noticed Victoria was awake. I went to sit between the beds and talk with her. We had a really nice mommy/daughter moment when she started playing with my hair. I love that!! I love to have my hair played with. Then Peter started to wake up followed by Kali. Everyone was up by 7am and we started getting ready to go down for breakfast. My little tomboy decided that I absolutely MUST put makeup on her before breakfast as she might run into a YouTuber! Heaven forbid she is not all dolled up for them! :scared1: Ok honey….let’s make you up!! Sooooo….makeup on (her’s not mine….) and we were out the door. We ate at the hotel’s casual restaurant, The Tropicale. They have a breakfast buffet for $18.95 per person. Not too bad! It was your typical breakfast with fruit, yogurt, muffins, eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, etc. I thought it was very good and I think everyone was pleased.

After breakfast we all went back to the room and the girls headed out to the conference. Bye bye girls for the next 9 hours!!! After a little while Peter and I headed down to the hot tub/pool area. I definitely wanted to soak in the nice hot tub!! On way to the hot tub we passed Sierra who is the parrot that lives by the pool. This particular morning there was a squirrel inside her cage as she was hanging on the outside and he was eating her food!! She was squaking away…..she sounded pretty pissed off in my opinion. Who could blame her?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8596333460/

And here is Peter in the hot tub…

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8595233059/

And he took some of me just sitting on the edge of the pool. I did eventually go in!

Now, this is the cool party of this day. :smokin: There is a YouTuber named Christian Novelli from Seattle and he is Victoria’s absolute favorite celeb! They even follow each other on Twitter and he’s been a source of comfort to Victoria during this whole depression diagnosis. He’s one celeb that when she tweets him, he tweets her back like they are real friends! I think it’s amazing! Well, anyways, I was in the pool and I see him walking by. He was stopped by some teenage girls and a line started to form for pictures. I kept saying to Peter, “what would Victoria do if I got a pic with him”. He didn’t really seem to think it was funny, but I sure did. Boy, can I act like a teenage girl myself when I’m in a certain situation…….so, I get out of the pool, put my coverup on and went to stand in line. Yes, I must admit I was the only adult in line. I turned to the girl behind me and asked if this was Christian just to be sure. She said yes and I explained I was going to have my pic taken to drive my daughter nuts. Well, the group of girls I was standing with thought that was a riot. So, I go up to Christian and I say that I’m Victoria’s mom and that I want a pic. Sure, he says, so the girl who was next took it. Yes, I know….I’m a dork!!! :rotfl2:

I had planned to go to Crossroads at the House of Blues in DTD this night, but the girls had events until 7pm and there was no availability for that late. After a couple of text messages back and forth I decided to just switch Saturday night’s plans with Sunday. Around 7:15pm the girls got back in the room and we were heading to Café Osceola for supper. It is located at the Rosen Shingle Resort and I had a $50 restaurant.com gift certificate for it. Too bad the taxi driver had no clue where it was. I just don’t get why everyone depends so much on a GPS!! Look on a damn map, dude and you’ll find it a heck of a lot easier!! Thus a drive that should have taken us 15 to 20 minutes ended up taking 45 minutes!!! Are you kidding me? I’m only paying you the price you quoted and I am not paying you for a drive around Orlando!! It was ridiculous. Of course he never owed up to his mistake. Funny, but on the ride back to the hotel it took 15 minutes and it was pretty much a straight shot! It was 8pm by the time we got there! This place (the restaurant) is gorgeous!!! And the buffet was amazing!! Even the girls liked it! For dessert they had red velvet cake….oh yeah baby…you come right over here!!! MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! We were all ready to head back to the hotel as this was kind of stressful.

I loved this staircase

Another tidbit of info here……My wonderful, beautiful daughter didn’t think of bringing the autograph book I had MADE FOR HER!!!! No, she had the YouTubers autograph her arm with SHARPIE MARKER!!! Yep, that’s my child for you. Here’s another thing….if she knew she was getting autographs, why didn’t she pack a sharpie??!! No, I had to spend gift shop prices for a Sharpie….grrrrr…..

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8596331112/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8595230749/

Oh well……she was happy and that’s all that matters! Plus after a couple of washings (scrubbings) they will come off! Eventually!!! Maybe!!!!!

The Toe and I….

I mentioned that I had a sore and swollen toe a while back. It all started about 3 months ago when I was letting Cutie dog out and she stepped on my toe. Back then I didn’t think too much about it, but then it started getting red and hurting. I first went to my PCP on March 14th to have them take a look at it. He put me on antibiotic #1 for 10 days. I was in 7 days later as it was no better and I was leaving on the 22nd for Florida. He then put me on antibiotic #2 and off to Orlando I went. After the trip I again went to see him on March 29th as I was no better and was put on antibiotic #3. At this visit I demanded something more, so I was sent for x-rays and was going to be set up with a referral to the podiatrist. I called the doctor on Tuesday, April 2nd to get the results. I was told that there was no fracture and I was given a referral for the podiatrist for Wednesday afternoon.

My Mom and I went to see the podiatrist yesterday. I took her along as she doesn’t take any bull from anyone whereas I sometimes let people walk on me….(I know --- who would have thunk that!!) So, Dr. Smith showed me the xrays and I do, indeed, have a fracture in my toe. It was pretty easy to see so I’m not sure why no one else saw it previously. That fracture started the chain effect which is now my toe. Yes, I have been walking around for about 3 months with a broken toe --- EVEN IN DTD!!! Not that they can do too much for a broken toe, but I could have babied it way more than I did. (and No, it wouldn’t have kept me from going to Orlando…..are you crazy!!!) So, the fracture caused the infection from heck. Now, not only do I have an infection, but he also believes I have a bit of gout in there. Ugh! He’s erring on the cautious side and treating me for both the infection and gout. I go back on Tuesday and if it’s not significantly better, he’s going to put me in the hospital for IV antibiotics. Lovely. Ultimately if he can’t control the infection there is a possibility of losing part of the toe. Ugh! In the meantime I am to keep my foot up as much as possible --- at least 15 minutes per every hour and I am to soak it for 30 minutes twice per day in Epson salt.

In case anyone was curious, I do have a picture…….I have inserted some spaces so those of you who want to avoid it can stop here! ::yes::

Your trip sounds wonderful. I would have taken the picture of my daughter's fave youtuber too. I am so sorry to hear you have had such problems with the toe and am glad you finally got someone to take a proper interest in it. Hope if feels better real soon.

Ann! Oh my goodness, I can’t believe that your doctor didn’t recognize a broken toe! I just read the update on your toe and I saw that I have two other updates to catch up on. I’ll get back to those later because I am trying to get in a little DIS between meetings today ;) Anyway, I am so glad you got referred to the podiatrist! I am very surprised that your primary care doctor didn’t see the fracture! Well, I am glad that it is properly diagnosed now and that he has a treatment plan in place for your toe.

Um. OUCH!

Hope that starts to feel better soon!

Great update before that. I love that you got a picture with Victoria's fan favorite... or crush..or whatever she would call him! That's awesome!

so you like the sparkle do you Ms. Ann? Not having read those earlier trip reports... I didn't get it first hand but it seems this wasn't the first incident with a Sparkle Pat Down...;)

Victoria seems to have been mighty happy (and very teenager y). She really does look lovely. Kali seems like she's a great friend for her-which is such an important thing at that age...

Ah crushing on the u-tubers... :goodvibes

The hotel looked lovely... I'm sorry that you didn't get to see your fireworks... it's frustrating when the family doesn't give you back the team spirit and cooperation you're looking for...:headache:

Getting the warm Florida sun and seeing your daughter so happy though is priceless...:goodvibes

I am very sorry about your toe... that sounds awful :sad2:

Well I'm glad they finally found out what the problem was and you are being treated properly. I hope it clears up and they don't have to IV you :scared:

Sunday….

We started out by having breakfast at the little café. I believe the girls had cereal and milk while us grownups had the breakfast platter. It was still expensive, but not as expensive as the buffet is! This day was basically like Saturday with the girls running off to their conference and Peter and I just hanging around. You know, a lot can be said for just hanging around! The sun, the hot tub, the pool…….yeah, I’m good.

As for the weather this day the Orlando area was issued a high wind warning. Oh yeah, I’ll say there were high winds….OMG!!! The branches and leaves from the palm trees were coming down all over the place! Those poor pool cleaners had their nets out constantly trying to pick it all up. Apparently there was a tornado associated with this line of storms, but we didn’t see anything like that. There wasn’t even a strong thunderstorm!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93759224@N02/8596330302/

I did see a picture of damage at Universal Studios, but it wasn’t bad. They didn’t evacuate us from the pool area or anything like that. It did start to rain a bit mid-afternoon, but it ended pretty quickly.

Now, this is a cute picture. Apparently llama hats are a big thing with this YouTuber Dan, so they were selling them at the conference. Guess who had to have them:

Here are more random pics. I let Victoria and Kali have my SD card so that they could get me the pics of the conference. Pretty darned clever, aren’t I??

I was able to snag a ressie at the House of Blues for this night so that is where we were headed for supper. I think it was for 5:30pm. I don’t know for sure as I didn’t keep up with my travel journal. Bad, bad girl!!

Finally, I was able to get caught up on your Mini-TR! I haven’t had a second to breathe at work – but that’s a story for another time. Anyway, did I just see Miss Victoria with a little makeup on her pretty face?!? She looks so cute, but so grown up at the same time :cutie: That was too bad you didn’t get to do the monorail loop like you wanted to that night. I agree with you that when you are on vacation, going to bed early is pointless (unless you have an early morning ADR ;) ) How cool that you got treats from the hotel for liking them on FB! I’m laughing at Victoria not wanting to go to breakfast without makeup on! That sounds like something I would do! :lmao: Oh boy, I am dreading the days when True and I are on vacation and fighting over bathroom time to do our hair and makeup! The day is coming soon! I just know it! :rotfl: OK, that is hilarious that a squirrel was inside the parrot’s cage eating her food! It looks like you and Peter had a nice time by the pool.

That is awesome that you got a picture with that youtube guy Christian (and how nice that he and Victoria have started a friendship on Twitter!) So how did Victoria react when she saw the picture of you two? I bet she freaked out! :rotfl2: That was a good idea for you to give the girls your SD card so you could see some pictures of their day :thumbsup2 It looks like you guys had a really good trip! I can’t wait to read the rest!

 Ann! How could you forget about the issue you had with glitter the last time you went to Orlando? :lmao: The guys giving the pat-downs must be cute ;) I’m glad you guys made it through security on time. That seemed like a really close one!

Ok, let me just put this out there.....I DO NOT ENJOY THE PAT DOWNS IN SECURITY. REALLY!

Erin, I think Ann forgot about the sparkly shirt b/c she does not OWN a shirt that isn't sparkly! ;)

I must admit, this is almost true.....Apparently the plus size clothing manufactures think they can hide a person's fat with sparkles! :rotfl2:

Holy cow, Victoria looks so different with make up on.

I love pin trading too. Like - LOVE. I ended up taking corkboard and covering it in fabric and hanging it up so I can display all my pins to see instead of putting them away between trips. Helps me justify the cost some...

Yes, I think she's pretty anyways, but the makeup really brought out her eyes. As for my pins, I also have mine on a corkboard, although I didn't cover it with fabric. I love my pins!

Your trip sounds wonderful. I would have taken the picture of my daughter's fave youtuber too. I am so sorry to hear you have had such problems with the toe and am glad you finally got someone to take a proper interest in it. Hope if feels better real soon.

Thanks Shannon! I swear I acted just like those teenagers during the convention. I love being silly and just having fun! My toe is feeling slightly better but apparently this is going to be a LONG recovery! They finally found an antibiotic to help with the infection, but I'm allergic to sulfa and ended up with a head to toe rash! Grrrr!:headache: That really sucked! But now I'm off the antibiotics and still on the medicine for gout. I am still soaking in epson salt and trying to keep my foot up.

Ann! Oh my goodness, I can’t believe that your doctor didn’t recognize a broken toe! I just read the update on your toe and I saw that I have two other updates to catch up on. Me Too!!!!!

So sorry about the toe! I hope they can get it healed up quickly!

Thanks.....slowly but surely my toe will get better!

Um. OUCH!

Hope that starts to feel better soon!

Great update before that. I love that you got a picture with Victoria's fan favorite... or crush..or whatever she would call him! That's awesome!

It was so much fun! We are making plans for next year!

I will never admit to liking sparkles! You will never pin that on me!! ::yes:: It's ok that we didn't get to see the Fireworks. I'm hoping to make ressies for the Wishes Dessert Party so maybe we'll get to see them with desserts and no crowds.

Well I'm glad they finally found out what the problem was and you are being treated properly. I hope it clears up and they don't have to IV you :scared:

So far no IV meds for me!! :goodvibes Like I said it's going to be a long recovery, but it will happen!

Oh, Erin, Victoria's response to the pic was classic!! I actually texted it to her saying "where are you? Christian and I are just hanging out"... SHE FLIPPED OUT!! She was like "where are you?" "what?" "how?"......I really had fun with that! We had such a fun time and are planning on going next year. If I can raise up the money. It's always a money issue, huh? If it's during the same weekend next year, Peter won't be able to go as someone has already asked for that weekend off. Oh well. Girl's Trip!! And yes, we'd bring Kali again!:hyper:

We grabbed a car to Downtown Disney West Side for our ressies at Crossroads at the House of Blues. It was a really nice evening weather-wise and I just loved being in the warm Florida sun. I was anxious for this ressie as I’ve never eaten here before. I wasn’t even sure where it was, but we found it just fine. (It’s right by Cirque du Solei). We were seated right away.

The dinner was amazing!!! Now I can’t even remember what I had, but it was yummy, yummy, yummy!!! I do remember what Peter had, though…..GRITS!!! I mean what??? We don’t eat grits up here, but he had some type of fish with fried grits!! I couldn’t believe that’s what he ordered. I know Victoria had some kind of steak dinner. Yum!

After dinner we walked around DTD for a while. I now know where Splitsville is! It was so crowded just walking around and it was getting kind of annoying. We didn’t stay too long. I did run into the living statue, though. That was really funny! He was playing with my hair!

We got back to the resort and ran into another Youtuber, Damon Fizzy. Of course Mama had to get into the act…..

I had to print out our boarding passes for the next day. Fortunately, they have a computer and printer set up in the reception building to do this. After getting this done, it was back to the room for Peter and I. And yes, the girls went “stalking” again!!
