BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

Just posting to say that I am so happy we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in February 2014 before any of the construction started. Glad we were able to experience the "old lodge". We will return once the construction is finished in several years.

Interesting........I have a "magical" deal at Thanksgiving and I was not offered anything. They said their Disney Sales Rep said they don't know how far along construction will be then......and how the resort will be impacted. So Disney is not moving/compensating people at this time. I'm annoyed to get brushed off when others are being compensated.

Your TA should be contacting you soon or reach out again. Group sales changed their response in the course of a day. If you are booked under the "magical" deal over Thanksgiving week, they should be offering to move you to GF-LV at the same rate. Over Christmas, they are currently offering BWI at the same rate for those who are now booked at WL.

Since we'll be there the first week of December, how confident should I be with GS's statement that construction will be limited to the beach/DVC-side of the resort at that time? I know the plan shows that eventually both sides of the resort will have new structures, but I am taking them at their word that they'll be messing with just one area at a time. Does this jive with what others have been told?

Those of you lucky ducks who are getting moved to the Grand will love love love it. Disney moved us last year from WL to GF (with my free dining discount) during the pool construction at no extra cost, and it was amazing. This year, we had hoped to finally stay at WL. For whatever reason, all GS offered us is the 30% off rack rate (we have woods view), so we took it, but they assured us that the construction will be on just one side of the resort and none of the main building and its restaurants, the boat service to MK, and the main pool will be affected. We'll see! We don't use the beach, quiet pool, spa or playground, so I'm hoping they're right. Still, if they had offered to move us to GF, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat!

Just got the call (I did not call or email them first). One of the first things she asked me was to give her my DVC member number to confirm that I was the member. I told her I was not the member, but renting points from the member. She then went on to tell me about the upcoming construction which will be very extensive (through 2017) and the loss of amenities particularly on the villas side. She didn't seem like she was really going to offer anything, just to alert me of the potential inconvenience. When I asked about my options, she said that they would switch me to like accommodations based upon availability (even if that meant more points for the member, but at no additional charge of points to them); however, I will need to have the member call them to make the arrangements (which I completely understand why they have to do it that way).

So, here's where I need y'all's help. What should I do? It sounds like so far, the other 2 VWL reservations that posted on here got offered BLT. I'm assuming that's what the owner I rented from will get offered. I really wanted to be close to MK this trip -- we normally always stay in the BW area during our June trips -- and that's where we'll definitely be staying next June. I can't imagine that they'd offer GFV or Poly because of the point difference and I'm pretty positive there would be no availability anyway. Don't really want to stay at AKL, SSR or OKW. Ugh. What should I do? I wish they could offer a regular room at GF like people with cash reservations -- I'd take that. I do like BLT, but my only experience there is in a 1 BR -- not sure if I'd want a studio there.

Based on my conversation with a very knowledgable sounding CM just a little ago, it does sound like at least for 2015, it would mainly only affect the villas side.

On another board of DVC owners, an owner had their renter moved without anyone asking her about it. She had rented through David's, and received an email with the change to BLT for her renter. She was pretty upset that this took place without her knowledge. It was more points, although she couldn't see that they were taken from her account.
Unfortunately (and typically) it looks like the solutions are all over the map as far as how this is getting done.
Personally, I would jump ship to BLT if I were you.

I loved BLT location when I stayed last year but even with just two adults - my sister and I - the studio was _very_ tight. I think it would be fine for a couple who would be sharing the bed. Once the couch was down for sleeping there was hardly any floor space.

SHE DID!! We are now staying at the Grand Floridian! I have always wanted to stay there but it was always financially out of reach! I can't believe it! I'm going with a girlfriend and her daughter. My daughter is marching with her band that week and will join us for the back half of that week. So, it's a girl's trip. My DH is going to be SO MAD when he finds out we're staying at the GF!!!! I'm almost afraid to tell him! But I'm SO EXCITED!

Yes, not only moving guests, but moving lots of them! For heaven's sake, people, if WDW is offering you an upgrade (GF, BC or BWI) at a deep discount, take it! I know it may not seem ideal as WL is beautiful at Christmas, but if they are moving people, it sounds like it's not going to be so great this year! Something is going on in that main building that is going to impact guests, it seems, in a big way.

I agree whole heartedly! If you are offered a move like that, take it! Don't wait or let them tell you to call back once you decide because the same offer can just as easily be taken off the table no matter how your reservation is noted. I called back 11 hours later and everything offered was taken back. It was a struggle to get anything resolved. Now I think it is ok but certainly took the "magic" out of planning.

Oh my goodness - we just got the same 'magical' news. We were booked at the WL for the week after Thanksgiving. TA just emailed that we can move to the Grand Floridian for the same price!!

I thought the price we had was a good deal for WL, nevermind the GF.

We are traveling with two young children - so I am loving that we'll now be on the monorail.

I still want to stay at the WL - but it can wait until the next trip :)

We are even more excited for our Thanksgiving trip and looking forward to having a great time:banana: We hope you both have a great time as well.

Well, to update, I went ahead and changed our reservations to CR for our late December trip. I honestly have no idea how or if the construction will impact hotel guests at that time, but I can't just leave it to chance. As much as this thread has been helpful, the prospect of following it for the next 5 months for blow by blow construction updates is not exciting me. Exhaling a little now, and looking forward to a construction-free stay in December. Hope to return to WL someday when the dust settles...
(Even though there is no "dust" at this time!)

ITA and the Grand Floridian is just as beautiful if not more so at Christmas!

We were offered the GF too for our stay the week before thanksgiving, though the way my luck had gone this past year I'm holding my breath until I get an official confirmation number. Since we found out Friday afternoon, I'm hoping when the group sales department opens on Monday we'll see something.

What should be interesting is that our first night had to be booked at WL standard rack rate through Disney since our agencies deal could only be used starting the second night of our trip. So our TA was able to get us $100 off that first night in a standard, then we'll move to GF the next day. I wish we could afford to pay the rack rate at GF for that first night to avoid moving (changing rooms with a toddler... Oooph!), but I'm not complaining! I already feel so very lucky :) At least I can be a guinea pig and report in for what the lodge looks like that first night. Now I just need to reread about bell services and changing resorts -- haven't done that in 4 years!

I just received an email from my TA. She said WL is requesting for all under the group rate to move to another resort. Our only deluxe choice to stay at the same rate is the Boardwalk. I have no desire to stay there. At an added price we can choose Poly or BC. It's at a substantial rate increase. My husband is livid. He only wants to stay at WL during the holidays. My TA said she has emailed WL that we have no desire to move, but she doesn't think it will help. I guess this is the price you have to pay for being at such a discounted rate. I have no clue what we're going to do.

Just curious, why would you not stay at BWI? I have a Christmastime chapter in my BWI thread, like I do for WL. BWI is beautifully decorated at Christmas and is warm and inviting. It's wonderful being able to walk right into Epcot and DHS from BWI and it's a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere over there. Obviously, the theming is not at all like WL (it's more like GF) so if you wanted to stay at WL, couldn't you stay and accept the $100 per night credit?

KOOK, thank you so much for this explanation as I truly did not know what I reserving with the agency and your explanation makes perfect sense and as always you are awesome. I will say that as frustrated as I got it was not my TA's fault and I would not hesitate to book with them again. Everything is a learning experience. Just need to decide now what is right for us with this situation. I hope everything works out for everyone.

So glad I could be of help, @rachdd. Have you made a decision yet?

Just got a call from our TA, and she said that Disney called them and that they will actually be closing rooms down at WL:eek: On the bright side, Disney told the TA that they will switch all their WL customers to GF-LV at no extra charge. DW is not super excited about the move, she was really looking forward to our 1st stay at WL with the Christmas decorations.

It's very common for resorts to take rooms offline that may be impacted by rehabs. Do you still have the option of staying and receiving a $100/night credit? Have you mentioned the GF Spa to DW;)

Goodness gracious, how bad is this construction expected to be if they are actively moving guests away from the main lodge, away from where the construction is supposed to take place?

Any long-term work that would be disruptive to guests or impact views usually means that at least some rooms will be taken out of inventory for some period of time.

ITA with your recommendation. The impact will most likely be to the South Wing rooms, especially those that face VWL. I suspect some VWL villas that face the pool area will also be blocked from booking.

When they did the main pool construction last fall they closed off the lower floors closest to the construction area. I would think that the rooms closest to the villa's pool in the south wing, especially the end closest to the pool itself, would have to be closed off and the windows covered up like they were for the main pool construction. They didn't close off the higher floors, though. We saw people sitting on their balconies watching the pool construction. :)
::yes::

I have haven't heard a word from them & I have this Sept trip (which shouldn't be too bad, only one night) but 7 days at end of November. I called & was told nothing is going on then just closing the quiet pool at the villas. I am staying club level & even they are being close mouth about it. More than likely I will be canceling it anyway but it would have been nice to hear from them.

Note my son want to go with us next Sept & he told me he doesn't care about the construction. I said fine but I want it in writing if they complain to me lol. I am trying to lure them into the Poly. I would go to the BWI but our grandson who will be almost 5 would like the MK more so than the Epcot area. Though the AKL might be an idea since he is into animals.

Since you're staying CL, you could end up with a South Wing room. However, the CL floor rooms don't go beyond mid-Lodge so even those rooms wouldn't directly face the VWL pool area. Unless you're staying in a Deluxe CL room and some of those rooms are at the end of the wing fronting Bay Lake. I would recommend requesting a North Wing room so that you'll be as far from the major work as possible.

We have reservations for Dec 4-Dec 12...I have not heard anything. I was so excited about the Christmas decorations but now I am not feeling the love. I booked through Disney reservations. This is going to be the first time we've gone at Christmas and it took a ton of arm twisting to get my husband to go. One of his request is Wilderness Lodge because it's "quiet"....not gonna be quiet with construction going on.

Should I be calling them??

Yes, call and ask to speak to Guest Services. Many have posted that they have been offered a credit, a percentage off and/or they could be moved (upgraded). If you prefer a quiet atmosphere, BWI is a very quiet and laid back resort. If your DH's heart is set on WL, you could take the credit and request a North Wing room or perhaps he'd like a FW cabin?

Well, I just called to ask about WL construction during our stay (12/27-1/2). The agent said "Do you mind if I put you on hold while I get more information on that?" After about 3 minutes she came back on the line she said, "I am not seeing any plans for refurbishment at that time." Not sure what to do now. Still thinking about changing resorts as I don't want to worry about any of this leading up to vacation or during our stay. I just want to relax and have a magical time within the Disney bubble (construction-free)!

The bolded made me LOL:rotfl: and :scratchin. I think you'll need to call back and ask for Guest Services and find out what can be done for you. Have in mind before you call back whether you want to move or receive a credit, if offered. Have a resort in mind that would be acceptable to you or stay put and request the North Wing;)

Interesting........I have a "magical" deal at Thanksgiving and I was not offered anything. I don't know if this is the case, but it's possible they're downplaying this so that clients don't cancel. The agency buys blocks of rooms through Disney Group Sales and they "own" the reservation. If they don't re-sell all of those rooms, they lose money on each un-booked room.

I can completely understand how you feel. I had one of the magical deals for the Poly, staying CL but with a garden view. A few months ago, I realized I was stressed at the thought of showing up to the resort and seeing a massive construction site outside our balcony or patio. So I switched to the WL. It's costing a bit more to stay there, since we're a party of five. We did get a decent discount on a deluxe room. We're staying in mid-August, so it doesn't seem we have to worry about the construction at that point.

Glad you'll make it to WL before the construction starts. Our family stayed in a Deluxe Room there earlier this year and had a great time. The CL amenities were wonderful. Through a fortunate set of circumstances we're able to go back to WDW in December after not having been for 15 years. Have a great trip!

:tigger:Thanks everyone for all the information it has been 4 years since our last DW trip , I received a 30% off pin code and decide to book Dec 13 - Dec 18 at WL " I know no free dining then" after reading this thread I called and was upgraded to The Grand Floridian at no additional cost I am beyond thrilled !!!!
Just to update he Guest service told me a garden view on my reservation it is
DISNEY'S GRAND FLORIDIAN RESORT & SPA
OUTER BLDG - LAGOON VIEW

We will! I've wanted to stay CL at the WL for ages, so it's probably good timing for us to stay there this trip.
