BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

Goodness gracious, how bad is this construction expected to be if they are actively moving guests away from the main lodge, away from where the construction is supposed to take place?
I think they may have learned a bitter lesson with the POLY construction. I heard they had A LOT of complaints from guests, so maybe they are being a bit more pro-active.

Ugh now I'm totally confused on what to do. I called beginning of the week and was offered to move or $100 off a night. Saving $600 sounded awesome so we took it. Now I'm really wondering what to do. Only thing is they offered us AKL or CR and I really don't want to stay at either. We are going 10/27-11/2.

Well, remember that in addition to the new structures, they're also converting rooms in the main lodge to DVC units. I'm guessing those conversions are going to come sooner rather than later, which is why they're moving people now. Didn't they close whole longhouses at the Poly when they converted them?

Yes, three longhouses were completely shut down. The better comparison might be what happened in Jambo at AKL when they converted rooms to DVC. Does anyone remember?!

When they did the main pool construction last fall they closed off the lower floors closest to the construction area. I would think that the rooms closest to the villa's pool in the south wing, especially the end closest to the pool itself, would have to be closed off and the windows covered up like they were for the main pool construction. They didn't close off the higher floors, though. We saw people sitting on their balconies watching the pool construction. :)

I have haven't heard a word from them & I have this Sept trip (which shouldn't be too bad, only one night) but 7 days at end of November. I called & was told nothing is going on then just closing the quiet pool at the villas. I am staying club level & even they are being close mouth about it. More than likely I will be canceling it anyway but it would have been nice to hear from them.
Note my son want to go with us next Sept & he told me he doesn't care about the construction. I said fine but I want it in writing if they complain to me lol. I am trying to lure them into the Poly. I would go to the BWI but our grandson who will be almost 5 would like the MK more so than the Epcot area. Though the AKL might be an idea since he is into animals.

Construction or not we are so excited to be staying at the WL for the holiday season! We love the Christmas decor they put up and it just looks amazing. A little noise during the day won't bother us in the least. And now they are closing some rooms seems we may have a less crowded stay! We were given the 30% off deal for the construction and are very happy. We won't be asking for any more at check in. It's a relief that I won't have to hope I get a public discount soon.

The noise part did not bother me as much as the loss of amenities, marshmallow roasting, no rentals, indoor movie etc. which we like to do. So, we will just visit to see the decorations on our resort hopping day:)

We don't lose any amenities that we would use. i did read they will be having indoor movies but we won't bother with them. They are also
Providing bike rentals but you won't catch me on one of those. Lol. Marshmallow roasts? We do them all summer so last thing I want is to do those. What other amenities are they taking away?

We have reservations for Dec 4-Dec 12...I have not heard anything. I was so excited about the Christmas decorations but now I am not feeling the love. I booked through Disney reservations. This is going to be the first time we've gone at Christmas and it took a ton of arm twisting to get my husband to go. One of his request is Wilderness Lodge because it's "quiet"....not gonna be quiet with construction going on.

Should I be calling them??

Yeah, I guess if you do not use any of the amenities then, hopefully it should not matter. Some other stuff is the beach area, playground and Spa will also be closed. We have 2 resort days that we like doing most of this stuff and would not like the fact that they are not available or you have to travel to FW. This is why I was ecstatic to be upgraded to GF-LV at no additional cost. I hope you have a great time and we will put WL back on the list to stay at some other time:)

Travel company I booked with are looking into this currently and expecting to get more details Monday to then contact customers effected.

Even though we have been moved from WL for our December trip, I am following to see how this whole situation plays out. Seems like Disney is At least being somewhat proactive this week compared to last. I still find it outrageous how inconsistent they are though. This time last week I had been given offers to move to another Deluxe or a $100 credit. Advised to think about it and discuss with family then call back next day. When I called next day, things went south quick. I was basically told nothing would be done and I re-booked WL knowing there would be construction and I would get compensation. I called back so upset thinking maybe just talked to the wrong person. After much deliberation the GS rep Patrice said they would be doing nothing for us. After more back and forth, she relented that the only thing I would get was the credit and only as a courtesy because her manager approved it. I was treated so poorly by GS and made to feel awful. I truly wanted to cancel and never spend another penny on Disney again. Later I spoke with Ella in GS at length. By Monday, we were moved but it has been an ordeal. Even with the move, I was made to feel like they were allowing me to out of their own goodness! I was advised that with moving, we would not be allowed to make any further changes either. Hmmm... And where we moved is completely NOT my first choice or even close.. It was basically the only decent choice due to Poly construction. Still, I just cannot get excited even though I keep trying to rethink all the good points and why we are there to begin with.

Again, this inconsistency is the main issue. This is not new information to them. I do not understand how or why they can't get a plan of action together addressing most general scenarios customers will have and prepare to apply fair and equitable resolutions across the board? Seriously poor planning on managements' part just as with the pool closure last year.

Well, I just called to ask about WL construction during our stay (12/27-1/2). The agent said "Do you mind if I put you on hold while I get more information on that?" After about 3 minutes she came back on the line she said, "I am not seeing any plans for refurbishment at that time." Not sure what to do now. Still thinking about changing resorts as I don't want to worry about any of this leading up to vacation or during our stay. I just want to relax and have a magical time within the Disney bubble (construction-free)!

Call back and ask for guest services.

We had the "magical" deal booked at WL over Christmas week. I was contacted yesterday and told we can switch to BWI at the same price. Considering the discount we initially got at the WL, I felt this was more than fair. My DH is thrilled he has always wanted to stay in the EPCOT resorts. We feel that we got a major upgrade and are grateful we don't have to worry about construction.

Interesting........I have a "magical" deal at Thanksgiving and I was not offered anything. They said their Disney Sales Rep said they don't know how far along construction will be then......and how the resort will be impacted. So Disney is not moving/compensating people at this time. I'm annoyed to get brushed off when others are being compensated.

We are also staying Christmas week and were offered the same thing. Initially, my dh was super irate because he loves WL. After checking out BWI I think he's starting to see the light. He, too, has wanted to stay at an EPCOT resort and this is the perfect chance at such a great rate. We've stayed at WL a ton..I'm hoping this will be a fun change!

Oh my goodness - we just got the same 'magical' news. We were booked at the WL for the week after Thanksgiving. TA just emailed that we can move to the Grand Floridian for the same price!!

I thought the price we had was a good deal for WL, nevermind the GF.

We are traveling with two young children - so I am loving that we'll now be on the monorail.

I still want to stay at the WL - but it can wait until the next trip :)

You will love the Grand. We've stayed at both WL and GF and the Grand is wonderful!
