This question is geared towards those familiar w/ Lake Compounce in CT. Did not do EE last time in Disney as kids too scared. Since then they have gone on Boulder Dash coaster at lake Compounce and survived. :) Question is for those familiar with both, if the kids could ride boulder dash, would they have any issues riding EE re: speed of coaster and height it travels?

My son has ridden both...I'm too scared to go on either. But he loves roller coasters and last time we went he rode EE 4 times in a row as a single rider. He was 9 at the time but he also loved it when he was 7.

I saw a You Tube video of Boulder Dash and it and EE are both roller coasters that have hills but I don't think you can really compare them.

EE looks to be much higher with bigger drops and then of course you have the whole broken track, backwards part, and a paralyzed Yeti that used to want to take your head off.

Boulder Dash looks like a terrain coaster very similar but bigger than the Roll o Coaster in Lake Campounce's sister park, Idlewild Park.

This is one of those "Only you know your kids" kind of situations.

My two sons pretty such road everything that they could as soon as they were tall enough. We only had one measuring incident. Not at WDW but I think a 6 flags.

This ride looks similar to Big Thunder Railroad. Everest has bigger drops and goes backwards. I'm not sure if they should ride it or not, its really up to you.

Been on both multiple times. Like both.

Boulder dash is a classic wooden coaster with no inverted parts and the drops are not that steep (there are no overhead restraints)...but it's a cool classic coaster much like Lightening Racers or the other wooden coasters) at Hershy Park. Your body gets jogged around alot but never turned upside down.

Everest is a more modern coaster with an overhead restraint, bigger drop and some backwards portions can't remember if there is an inversion but having an overhead restraint would imply so.

Two different animals with different forces on the body. Interestinly Boulder dash has a higher height minimum than Everest probobly b/c it is older and has no overhead restraint.

Personally RnR coaster is my favorite WDW coaster and none of the disney "thrill" coasters come close to the " thrill coasters" at other parks like hershey, but disney is not meant to be a thrill filled park.

No inversions and no overhead restraints.

Only coaster with overhead restraints at WDW is RnRC.

Not from CT, but have ridden boulder dash, it is a great ride! first EE does not have over the head restraints, but instead lap bars, that IMHO are much more comfortable then boulder dash (due to the PTC trains that it runs). There are moments where Boulder Dash and EE are similiar, and thrill level.. I would have to say are about equal.

Boulder Dash is considerably faster and has bigger drops then Big Thunder.

The most intense part of EE is the part that it goes backwards, this experience is more comparable to the backwards part Boomerang (Zoomerang at LC), which I know Lake Compounce also has. EE does not go upside down, but it pulls similiar G-forces.

If a rider can tolerate those 2 rides, (mind you EE is MUCH MUCH better then boomerang!) then they should be more then fine on EE.

I've ridden both and love both, and like gzh6464 said they're two different animals. But to be honest, I think BD is more straight-out thrilling for me. Theming on EE wins WAY hands-down, but it is a smoother ride and I feel like it doesn't pull as many G's (I could be wrong, just going by my feeling.) I would definitely say that if your kids ride and enjoy BD then they'll like EE.

Hi,

Lake Compounce is my second home. I just rode EE this year but have been riding boulder dash for the past 3 years. Honestly, I don't think these are good for comparison. The biggest difference is EE has a dark part of the ride that goes backwards, this could be scary for some kids. EE is not as fast as Boulder Dash,it doesn't have a steep first drop and does not give you air time.

You just may have to let them try it.

Good luck!!!!!:goodvibes

for comparitive sensations, the pp comparing to the boomerang rides is as close as I've come to Everest.

EE sometimes feels like you're doing an inversion for some reason when you're going backwards in the dark even though you are not. There's a disorienting feeling.

We go to Lake Compounce every summer and I've ridden both Boulder Dash and EE. If your kids can handle Boulder Dash, I think they'll be fine on EE.

Boulder Dash has a 115ft hill-EE's is 80ft and banked. Both are fast, but Boulder Dash feels unreal. It has more "airtime". EE does go backwards at a point, but I don't think it's that bad.

Both are great coasters, BTW. I like Lake Compounce. It's clean and family friendly and like a PP said, free soda all day! It's also the oldest continuously running amusement park in America.

Have you ever ridden Boulder Dash in the dark? OMG, that is wild. You are in those woods, and you can't see a thing!:cool1::scared1::goodvibes

This ride looks similar to Big Thunder Railroad. Everest has bigger drops and goes backwards. I'm not sure if they should ride it or not, its really up to you.

Boulder Dash goes 60 mph and you get huge airtime on those hills. It also has a 115 ft drop. It is far more intense than BTMRR. Imo,it is far more intense than EE.

I think the OPs kids would be fine on EE. I love Boulder Dash, but it is intense.

I've ridden both. IMO if your kids can handle Boulder Dash, they can easily handle Everest. Everest does have that backward part, however, so it might be unsettling.

Both are great rides. I prefer Everest. Boulder Dash can be jerky and bumpy in spots, but Everest is very smooth.

DD8 just rode BD for the first time a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it but was all set after one time. She rides EE multiple times since she was around 5. I definitely thought BD was WAY more intense. Apples to oranges but if your kids can do BD I think they can do any ride at WDW.

The rickety nature of Boulder Dash being a wood coaster almost automatically makes it a more intense ride, aside from it being a faster ride throughout,Everest is silky smooth and only has a few sections the ride gets good speed and only has one true drop.Haven't ridden Boulder Dash but just seeing a video of it without riding it I know I'd like it better than Everest,it's a wooden terrain coaster in a hill full of trees with speed throughout the ride, nothing that intense but it just looks fun and the location is just beautiful natural theming, plus I like wood coasters.Everest is a steel coaster with great theming and a few tricks, still a great coaster. You can't really compare the rides too much as they're different styles of coasters but if you've been on Boulder Dash I see no reason you can't go on Everest.

For what it's worth, those in the "roller coaster community" - i.e. enthusiasts that travel all over to ride everything - overwhelming would regard Boulder Dash as significantly more intense than EE.

For that (and other) reasons BD has been quite highly rated on coaster rankings; EE is generally not.

On a personal note, my six-year-old daughter rode EE last year multiple times, and loved it. She's a pretty experienced rider, though, having been on the Phoenix at Knoebels when she was five - and that's a pretty nutty ride.

I've also ridden both. EE is easier.

TBH the thing that will freak you out a bit on EE isn't the backwards or the dark....it's the initial hill climb cuz it looks so high. That may unsettle him more than anything else. But then again YMMV.

As I tell my kids (DD, niece & nephews) "just try it once, if you don't like it you will never have to do it again" So far every ride was a repeat :thumbsup2
