Bought an iPod Photo yesterday

I've downloaded a few tracks from iTunes, but they don't have most of what I want (I'm currently working my way through the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles  ). What other sites are worth a look?

Annoyingly, we ordered a portable compact drive from the States last week for our photos. We figured that £100 for 20Gb, was a no-brainer compared with around £70 for a 1Gb memory card (we've only got one at the moment and that won't be enough for our 25 day upcoming trip :teeth: ). I've been talking about buying a mini iPod for weeks, but when we actually got around to looking at them, I decided I wanted the iPod Photo and, with an additional lead (which I've yet to buy), I'll be able to download directly from the camera. D'oh!

I've got an iPod photo as well. It's great to be able to carry around all your photos with you. Apple are bringing out a cable in the next month or so which will enable us to download straight from a digial camera.

Should be useful in August!!

Thinking of getting one too
please tell me all about it

Did you buy here or in the states

Oh great! I would really like to get one of these.

I'm jealous! I'm tempted by the new iPod photos myself to save lugging my laptop to WDW in July- dont think the leads to connect to a camera are available for a few weeks yet though.

mmmmmm iPod's.................. :cloud9:

:teeth:

I got an ipod photo in Orlando at Xmas....its FAB!!! We were going to get the media centre, but the camera to ipod cable will be better.

I need to get some better headphones as the Apple supplied ones are pants, but apart from that I LOVE it and use it all the time.

I've been thinking of purchasing an iPod for a while now, this new Photo one looks great.

I'm not a very tech-type person, can someone explain something for me? If I take our digital camera will I be able to transfer photo's from it straight onto the iPod (without the need of a laptop/computer)? That sounds excellent if I can, as it will minimise the need for extra memory cards.

Thank you!

Yes, with the new iPod photo's and an adapter or cable which should be on sale soon, you can transfer pictures from your camera directly to the iPod and view them on the colour screen; transferring them to a computer once at home. The camera must be able to operate as a 'USB host' device- basically meaning that it is able to transfer data without a computer. This shouldnt be a problem with most cameras with a USB port though I would definately check before you buy that your camera is compatible. I know that with older ipod accessories that allowed transfer of pictures to an iPod purely for storage (not to look at them or check that they're there) there were lists available of compatible cameras- there may be something along those lines once the adaptor is released.

We were going to do the same, Allie - until I read about the iPod camera connector. From what I can gather it's expected to be available late March and for around $29, so I hope we'll be able to get one when we're in the US in April. The current connectors (or at least the Belkin ones which I've seen) allow you to download from the camera, but I don't think you're able to view. That said, they seem to have been designed for the iPod, not the iPod photo. They're much more expensive than $29.

jns - I bought it here. I was going to order it from Apple, but the only options are 30Gb and 60Gb. I ended up getting it from John Lewis (well I actually bought it in my local Waitrose which has a small John Lewis section) as they stock the 40Gb model and it came with some extra bits and pieces (the main one being the dock). The real reason I bought it there, though, is that once I decide I want something I want it NOW! It's £269. The 30Gb from Apple is £249 which includes free engraving (which would have been cool), but not the dock. If you are a student or affiliated to an educational establishment (or are willing to say you are) you can get a discount from the Apple Store by clicking on the Education tab. The price for the 30Gb is then £229.

thanks for the info
i am going to price them when we are out next month or knowing me I am a bit like you I can talk myself into needing it tomorrow or yesterday

Last year just before the Holidays i decided i needed a new camera Couldn't wait and then never used it until we were there just charged it up

I've got an Ipod mini and now really want the photo one! It's so tempting to sell the mini on ebay and pay the difference but I love my pink baby so much!
