Botox...what do you think?

Is there anyone out there who gets botox for their crows' feet and forehead lines? I am seriously thinking about doing this...which is weird in itself because I do very little in the way of "beauty" routines. I don't get my nails done. I don't go to fancy salons. I don't know. I turned 40 this week and am really wanting to do something for myself. (I know, my friends say, "get a massage, then...")

I know this is a sensitive subject, and you may want to avoid public declaration of botox use, :goodvibes but I am really interested. Feel free to PM me!

Also, I have no idea how much this costs...does anyone have a ballpark figure?

Thanks for weighing in!!!

What do I think? I think I would never allow anyone to stick needles near my eyes unless I needed it as a life saving measure. I think I am going to learn to accept the wrinkles around my eyes, because when I smile I hope people see into my soul and not how many wrinkles there may be. And finally, I think I don't want people looking at a frozen face, with little ability to express myself through my face, and assume "Oh, she must have had the botox".

I just figure it must be hard to do Botox well where you can't tell because most of those celebrities who have had Botox are very obvious and I always figure they can probably pay for the best doctors. If that is the best what does the worst look like? :confused3

Yeah, um, do you know what botox really is? Yuck.

It is botulism toxin. One of the most serious effects of botulism is paralisis, it can cause death. So you are giving your face food posioning, yikes.

I am sure you are beautiful and look very young for your age, just like me ;)

No, I haven't had it done, but I would consider it for migraines. My neuro dr says that the jury is out on whether or not it helps with migraines, though. Of course I wouldn't mind the added benefit with wrinkles. :rolleyes1 Not sure of the cost. Seems that $500 is stuck in my head, but I could be off base.

True, but when I have a migraine I'd like to chop my head off, so it can't be any worse than that! ;) :teeth:

Heck yeah, I'd do it! :thumbsup2 I know people that have, but not to the extreme like some people do it. I have hard frown line between my eyes. Often times people think I'm mad when I'm not. I'd love to Botox that bad boy away! Then again, this is coming from someone who's getting cosmetic surgery in a few weeks! Ah, the vanity.

Agreed! Nothing is worse than a big bad migraine. And, yes, my neurologist mentioned botox as a course of action. He just wasn't sure what the bottom line was on it yet as far as effectiveness. He did not seem to worry about the botox itself.

Unfortunately and unknowingly, he is the one that got me thinking about it. I really am not afraid of the ingredients...think of penicillin!

However, I am just wondering if there is anyone out there that has gotten a good result. I don't want a huge change... I want to be able to make expressions and move my face.

Anyone? Anyone?

I'm calling it my 31 year maintenance, lol! I'm getting a mini tummy tuck to remove tons of stretch marks and loose skin, and a breast augmentation to a small-mid C. I'm scheduled for April 21st, and I'm so excited!

Please let me know how it goes. I will think of you on the 21st! (and the 22nd, the 23rd, the 24th...)

Good luck!

LOL! Thanks!!

What concerns me with getting Botox is that it's only temporary. It can last anywhere from 3 months to a year (if you're lucky.) I don't like the fact that you have to keep going back to get stuck again!

Here's what I want to know: Botox (botulism) paralyzes the facial muscles. What stops it from traveling through the bloodstream to your heart?

I am a practitioner of natural healing, but I have to confess that I'm all for cosmetic surgery. Is that hypocritical? :confused3 Probably so, but I guess I'm pretty vain.

OP, please ask a ton of questions of your doctor, get all the facts....then go for it! If you decide against it, at least, start pampering yourself more with salon appointments and spa days. Not that you need those things to be beautiful, but it really nourishes your spirit when you do special "froo-froo" things for yourself.

Good luck!

Truthfully, I would never have any purely cosmetic procedure. The risks with anesthesia etc. are too great.

Plus, I like me the way I am. I am earning my wrinkles and gray hair!!!

Around here it can run around 350 per injection site ---

not that I have had it done or would want to umm, er, yeah ...

Seriously - I have called around a bit because I HATE the frown line I am getting in between my eyes - and it is just going to get worse

I am wondering if there are any other alternitves??

I don't have a problem with botox but when I am watching TV or a movie I am obsessed lately with looking to see whose eyebrows move and whose eyebrows don't.

I am in the middle of having a series of microdermibrasions and I am hoping that will help with the fine lines and hyperpigmentation I have developed

Honestly, I would try it once if you are really interested in it. At least it isn't permanent.

Good Luck

LOL! The funny thing is...I do the same thing. But, I still am thinking about the procedure. I know I don't want to look like Meg Ryan or Joan Rivers...I want my face to move. I just want to get rid of the frown lines...

How do you like the microdermabrasion? Are you having good results?

There are so many people in the world who are beautiful just the way they are and then they go pay a mint just to make themselves even "better".

Then are those people who really could use the help. The children born disfigured. The vetrans, firemen, and cancer survivors with limbs missing or burnt faces. You know, All the people with the HUGE hearts and hidden tears. Not only do most of them not have the money to improve their own lives, but IMHO cosmetic surgery is just a slap in the face to these wonderful people who cannot possibly live up to the idealistic image.

WHY can people not just be happy as they are ment to be?
