Boston hotel question...something on the green line

I will be (hopefully) going to a conference in Boston at the Hynes Conference center in Boston in late March. I think it is on the T (subway) green line. I could stay at a hotel by the conference center but it is very pricey.

I thought another option might be a hotel....something less expensive and I could take the subway. I think the conference center is on the green line. I have never been to Boston. From what I can tell, Boston must be very expensive.

Does anyone know of a hotel? Any info is apprecitated!

What price range are you looking for?

Did you try the Lenox, Park Plaza, or Colonnade? They are all within walking distance to the Hynes Convention Center.

The green line has a bunch of different parts. Its pretty long. You can take it all the way to the Boston College area.

You could try priceline for the Downtown Crossing Area. How much do you want to spend? We got some super nice rooms that were only a couple subway stops from Hynes for like $80 a night.

We stayed in Cambridge last summer at the Royal Sonesta and it was very close to the green line. We got a great deal and had a fantastic view of the Charles River. I would definitely recommend that hotel.

The summer before we stayed at a bed and breakfast in Brookline which was also very nice. I believe that was also on the green line.

As the other poster said, the green line is very long.

There's an old joke in Boston. Two dear, sweet, older ladies in Brookline were walking to a meeting on the Green Line. One of them said to the other. "Let's take the T." The second lady looked at the first. "Do you think we have time?"

Bah-de-boom.

The Green Line is great - BFF lived about a block off of a stop for several years - but it is SLOW, especially when it is above ground. If you're in good physical shape and don't mind walking (and uhm, hello? Disney type people? Obviously people who generally don't mind walking!) you can sometimes get places quicker by walking than taking the T if you're only one or two stops away. (Just a small factoid that a lot of tourists don't know.)

Whatever you do though; please don't drive. (Note: no one in my immediate family drives in Boston. We all park somewhere and pay and get on at a T-stop in the 'burbs or the end of the line or take the commuter rail in.)

As for hotels. . .Boston is a really compact little town. Go to Kayak.com and put in the address of your conference. You won't have trouble finding something close, especially in March, for a good price, I suspect.

The Lechmere T stop has a few hotels (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Royal Sonesta) within walking distance, anywhere from a 2-10 minute walk. Lechemere T is in Cambridge, by the Museum of Science and CambridgeSide Galleria. I live by this T station and I have walked to the North End, Boston Garden, into Charlestown when the weather is nice. Hope this helps.

The closest hotel to the Hynes is the Sheraton Boston. You can walk to the Hynes from there.

The Boston Park Plaza is pretty reasonable on Priceline as is the Radisson on Stuart Street
There is a Holiday Inn in Brookline which isn't too far on the Green Line
There's also a Holiday Inn downtown which is probably a bit more expensive

good luck!

Thank you for the information. I am going to do some research. I do not mind walking....actually I am going to walk a bit for exercise in a little bit. I am just trying not to spend more than I need to.....

Again thank you!
