Boston Disers, how excited are you about the Lion King and when are you going?

Ann, I was out jogging this morning and for some reason you popped into my head and I realized today was your Lion King day. Have a great time at the show!!!

It was wonderful.......sigh............. ....I loved it.......
can't really describe it........the costumes and stage effect stuff was just amazing.........really loved the Timon and Pumba characters.....and all the little puns/adult humor sprinkled in to the dialogue in some parts. There was even a crack about Filene's Basement at one part! The stampede scene was amazing.....and Simba recalling his father's teachings before he decided to go back to the pride.....it was just great....

Katie, I thought of you (and all the other DIS-people) too ....because we ended up just meandering to Downtown Crossing and grabbed lunch at the food court where we ate at the DISmeet in June As far as what to wear... I saw a full range of outfits......So although I don't have the words to describe the show itself , here's my fashion police report: in one family the mom and two kids looked very nice like they were going to a wedding or a nice dinner (summer dresses on mom and daughter, white polo shirt and khaki slacks on litte boy) but the dad looked like he didn't change after mowing the lawn, with t-shirt, khaki shorts and ratty sneakers. The others that looked very "underdressed" were two college-age young women with denim shorts, tank tops, and flipflops; and a family group all dressed very casually, with two teen girls in outfits that I wouldn't want my DD going to the Mall in, let alone the theatre (baseball cap on sideways, tight midriff showing tops, gym shorts folded over down around the hips.....eeww! ). Saw lots of summer dresses, skirt outfits, and "smart casual" pants. My sister and I opted for capri pant outfits and felt just about right in the middle of the range of things we saw there!

I bought the CD and the little tin of mints.....I also really liked the plush beach towel they had, and the t-shirt with Scar's face that says "I'm Surrounded by Idiots" (reminded me of my workplace, but since I couldn't wear it to work I decided I didn't wanted to be reminded of work when I'm not there LOL)

BTW, we did NOT have a good experience in that outdoor parking lot across the street.....next time I would go to a garage, there are plenty in the area.

I can't believe I have to wait until December to see it!!! AHHHHH!!!
Is the Opera House near the Wang? How much was parking? I'm asking because the Common Garage is maybe a 10 minute walk from the Wang Center(give or take a few) and on weekends it's a $10 flat rate to park there-we parked there for the Dis meet and also yesterday when we went to see Mama mia.

I'm heading into Boston around 3:30 to have dinner before with the family before the 6:30 performance of "The Lion King."

Since it's so hot and sticky out today, I'm not getting dressed up. I'm just going to wear a nice pair of Ralph Lauren shorts, and a Tommy Hilfinger blouse. Casual, yes, but I'd rather be comfortable.

I dont blame you Karen, its nasty out there. Its not even so much that its hot, just unbelievably sticky, muggy, yucky.

I think that will be perfectly appropriate, Karen. Nothing at all wrong with casual or comfortable (and clean of course )It was the ones that looked like they'd come straight from the gym or the beach that I didn't think looked appropriate.

Yes, it surely is muggy today!
The theatre WAS comfortably air-conditioned....my sis actually felt a little chilled at one point...I had a lightweight cardigan with me and did put it on for awhile!

Antkim, I'm not very Boston navigating savvy, so I don't know how close the Wang is. The Opera house is just a blockor two down Washington from Downtown Crossing though, so I guess you'd be fine walking from the Common Garage. ?

JUst DON'T park in that open air lot across from the Opera House. It was mayhem when the show let out, VERY rude attendants, and cost $22.....though their rather large sign said $12 (then very fine print below apparently said that that was only on every other Tuesday if the moon is full or something or other )

Ann, thanks for the great description of everything. Did you notice the garage down the street a bit, kind of across the street from that parking lot you are talking about? I think it was 10.00 in that garage, did you take notice? I wonder about coming to a 8:00 performance and even getting a spot with the matinee folks still in the theatre when we arrive. Any thoughts about that?

I just got home from the Lion King. We had a great time. The kids really enjoyed it. I wish I hadn't seen it in New York before seeing it in Boston though--it's so much bigger on Broadway. I had a great time--especially watching the kids faces when they saw the animals.

Kim, the Opera House is about a five minute walk from the Wang Center. Do you know where the Loews theatre is on Tremont Street? If you walk down the side street that's on, and take a left at the end, the Opera House is a half block down. You'll be fine parking at the Boston Common Garage.
