Boston Disers, how excited are you about the Lion King and when are you going?

For any of you that may have already seen it at the Opera House.... how was the seating? Since it's all brand new, I was just wondering how they did the seats. Most places are so cramped and you can't see over the person in front of you. Also, I have three seats, center orchestra...101,102,103. Sound like aisle seats? We're in row V so we're a ways back but that's no big deal. I guess it would be too much to ask for stadium seating?? Thought so. Can't wait to go.

The Merchandise was not too bad. T-shirts were 25 for adults, magnets starting around $5. They also had ornaments that were like the masks they wear and stuffed african type dolls of the characters. (I thought they looked kind of creepy...:) )
They did have the poster for either 8 or 10. It would be good for framing. DH wishes we had gotten one... Oh well. They had CD's and the color photo programs avalible as well... But I think they were from the New York cast.
The seating was not bad. The farther back you got, the more raised it was. The people behind us were quite a bit above us.

Feenie, thanks so much. One more question if I could...about the posters, do you remember if they said something like "lion king, on broadway", or just a picture of a lion, that says "lion king". Thanks!

Campinggal, I just realized you're going to the show in less than 4 hours!!!!:Pinkbounc

Have an absolute blast and tell us about it first thing in the morning!

THE CIRCLE OF LIIIIIIFE!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh, can't wait to hear that song. :D I think I'll cry.

Um...cry??? I had goosebumps all over and tears running down my face during the opening number. I was so blown away I could left after the first song and felt I got my money's worth!!!!!

Absolutely amazing doesn't even come close- the show was awesome!!::yes:: ::yes::

They did a great job on the Opera House- beautiful. Only downside that I could see were the bathrooms. Try not to go at all costs (well, maybe not all costs ;) ). They are way down stairs. I took DD just after the show ended (during the last curtain call) so no line but what a haul! Also the entrance is only about 20 feet wide so you get this feeling of going down some very ornate alley packed with people when arriving and even more so when leaving.

The seating felt very intimate- so I doubt there is a bad seat in the house. We were in Row T, center orchestra. The incline of the seats from row A to T was such that by roughly rows P,Q,R,S,T, your seats were dead even with the height of the stage. The first few front rows seemed below the height of the stage so one sitting there might have to actually look up. We had seat numbers 105-108 and I swear, my 108 seemed exact dead center. They are slightly staggered but only just so. If you have a small child, they have booster seats available.

Definately plan to get their early. Best to do your merchandise purchasing before the show- the 15 minute intermission is way too short. There are signs posted that if you are not in your seat when they dim the lights for the opening number and the number after intermission, there is a 10 minuite hold on being seated. You don't want to miss any of this!!!

Parking seemed plentiful- there is an 'open' lot right across the street (on Washington St.) where they pack the cars in (this did get full about 30 minutes before the show) but there is also a public parking garage attached to the Hyatt Hotel that is on the street perpendicular to Washington- the street is right across from the Opera House.

I am so in awe of those with creative talents- the costumes were phenomenal.

So, in short- it was wonderful!

I'll post merchandise offerings in another thread.

I'm so excited for all who are still yet to see it!!

OK- lots of stuff to purchase at the show!

Prices seemed to range from $5.00 to $30.00.

Oh- I forgot the $2.00 mints in a decorative tin!

$5.00 will get you...

'Bag of Grubs' AKA gummie worms
Key Chains (many to choose from)
Pins (also a few different styles)

$8.00 will get you...

Smallish poster of the logo 'Lion King head' with 'On Tour' printed on the lower portion. Black with the lion king gold colors. (Jillpie- it looks to be roughly 24 inches by 18 inches- not your huge movie poster size. Could easily be framed for home display)

$10.00 will get you...

Mug
Box of Note Cards
Photo program book

$15-20 will get you...

Bean Bag Animals- Timon, Pumba, Zazu or Simba- not the cutesy ones from the movie but ones specially made to complement the production. Very cute- ended up with a Pumba one for DD.

Base Ball Cap
CD of music- this is the Broadway cast recording
Beach Towel - Black with Gold
Ornaments- fashioned like the masks the casts wear.

Tee Shirts run $15 for kids and $25 for Adults and $30 for Adult long sleeve. A few different styles of short sleeve to choose from.

Phew!

That pretty much sums it up- there might be a few more things- oh actually- I just remember they had some fancy pen and a small semi trailer truck (about 8 inches long) with the 'Lion King On Tour' logo. I didn't get the prices on those.

Hope that helps!

Again, best to purchase before if you have time- the 15 minute intermission seemed very rushed to tackle the crowd and get back to your seat in time.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the report and great tips campingal! :)

I have a question for you all....
what should I wear for a Saturday matinee?
What would be too casual?...what would be too dressy??

Yes, do bring a few tissues, some of those songs and presentations are quite moving.

Not sure there in Boston, but I know in NYC and Chicago, shorts and tank tops would be a no-no and dressed to the nines would probably overdo it. I would say just some slacks and a top. Thats what Marie wore and what I seemed to recall most wearing.

Again, enjoy.

Well, last night at a Saturday 8:00 performance I saw everything from t-shirts and shorts to sequins and fancy wraps.

I remember growing up that going to an evening theater performance meant that you dressed up- not so much sequins- but you 'put on your best'. As our society as become more casual, that doesn't seem to happen any more. I find that a shame.

So, NHAnn- you can probably wear anything you want!

If I were going to a 2pm matinee, I would probably opt for a nice pant outfit or skirt ensemble or if it was still summer, a sundress would be fine too.

Campinggal, excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT REVIEW!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I could hug you right now. I can't believe what you came back with. FANTASTIC list of everything they sell!!!! You rock for getting those. Now I can't decide what I want. I know I want the poster and CD, but now I'm going to be tempted with everything else. I just love this movie and all the music. That opening scene sounds phenominal. But keep it a secret for us, ok ;) ? I've heard that before, but glad nobody has really revealed it yet.

Wow, I can't thank you enough for telling us all that and coming back with that list :D ! I'm so happy you loved it.

Campinggal, one more question:D , did you end up eating somewhere around the theatre and was it good?

Glad to help!

We ended up eating over on Boylston Street at the Atlantic Fish Company- my brother bar tends there and was working so we thougth we would go eat and 'hang' out with him so he could chat with DD in between customers.

Atlantic Fish Company is a great restaurant if you like fish but it really isn't near the Opera House. You would have to drive and park, then move the car and drive to the Opera House and park again.

Now I'm having post show blues- I want to see it again!!!

ok thanks a bunch. I feel for you for havin those blues, sure wish you could go again. But those prices, ouuuucch. I already want to go again and haven't even gone for the first time:D .

I am getting soooo excited.....40 hours to go til the 2 pm matinee Saturday !! ;) :teeth:

So psyched for you Ann!!! I know you'll have a blast. Come back and tell us! And thanks for bringing this up to the first page again, I thought it had died a tragic death:D . Have fun!!!

Does anyone know how long the show will be in town?

And how cheap the cheapest seats are?

I REALLY want to try and go...

The show is running through December. I believe the tickets range from 65.00-85.00. You could call Ticketmaster or go in to the theatre itself. Good luck!

Ann, be sure the check out what people are wearing to the Saturday Matinee. Thats what we are going to and Im really not sure at all what to wear.

Goofy4Tink, we are missing you by 1 day. We go Aug 28. I was very excited about going however, we got this sort of surprise cruise given to us and we leave the very next day. ;) Knowing how I get the day before a trip, Im kind of stressed about going to the Lion King now. I just hope I can relax and enjoy it(without going over all my packing lists in my mind the whole time).

I hope all of you that are going soon have a terrific time!! We just can't wait. My poor dd told me last night that when she tells her friends that she's going to see 'The Lion King' they just shrug their shoulders and say.."Oh, that's nice." Guess her friends don't get it. But she does. But what does my mother in law do? She is planning a graveside service for the internment of my father in law's remains the same day!!! Yes, it would have been his birthday. But, when we bought the tickets we figured he would still be in the Alzheimer facility and it wouldn't be a problem. Boy, talk about putting a crimp in our plans. But, dh says she can do it the following day as far as he's concerned. What a terrific guy!!!

I'm headed down to Boston for the matinee today...hopefully won't melt on the way!! ;)

Will try to report back tonight :teeth:
