Boston "Big Dig" Tunnel collapse!!

How frightening. We were just there a little over a week ago, and due to the "wonderful" signage, ended up driving through several "extra" tunnels before we got to our destination.

Gotta love Boston, huh?

I am just glad Chad is home and doesn't work again until Friday afternoon. He takes the entire 93 tunnel through the city when he commutes. That tunnel always makes me nervous! (not the same tunnel with the collapse, but still)

This project cost $16 BILLION dollars. And in less than two years someone was killed by falling debris. Fatt Matt should be tried for murder.

Wasn't the original price tag only supposed to be $2 to $3 billion dollars? This is just plain .

Unfortunately I think his job is safe...he's to connected to get rid of. Remember, if the head of DSS can stay after a girl in their care gets beaten into a coma, then unfortunately Fat Matt will stay. Until the citizens of Mass stands up and demands change, this will continue.

Isn't there some provision that Matt can't be removed? I thought we had to wait until next year when his commission expires for him to be gone. I know the Governor can't get rid of him and Matt just made some changes so even the Board can't get rid of him or change the provision that made it so that he can't be removed. He should do the right thing....resign. He's like a judge....he can't be removed until his commission expires.

Living in the Boston area my whole life, when this was proposed I immediately thought fiasco.....it is just that....people gouging the State working on the
Big Dig, you can see them walking around with their coffee, I am not saying everyone is not working, but those of us from Boston know what a problem this undertaking has been...

First, we were paying in MA, but now I have heard it told that the whole country is paying for this mess....disgusting abuse of taxpayer's money and why??

I just wanted to say that I never go through this tunnel, have done it once under duress......I get off the expressway (you Boston people know what I am saying) coming from the South at Dorchester, cut over through South Boston (Hey I saw Ben Affleck filiming his movie, doing my shortcut, I beeped, he waved)and then run along Atlantic Ave the best I can, since they change the barriers everyday and the route is different.. I come in through the North End and either head North if that is where I am going or head into Boston if I am taking my husband to the hospital for a check-up...or meeting my children....I said it then, I will not go through that tunnel if I can help it.....and so far I am still doing my route...the way back is a little difficult, but I am sticking to my guns..

God bless the woman killed this morning.....how will Mennino explain this one away..or better still Mass Turnpike Authority....for shame.

I drove through that tunnel on my way to Canobie Lake, and let me tell you, I have never prayed so hard in my life! All the way through. Thanks be to God my family was spared.

As much as I think the MBTA is a disaster as well, I at least feel safer taking the commuter rail to work than driving.

My husband asked me this morning if we'd ever gone through that section of the tunnel. No, we haven't. He used to drive through the 93 tunnel to get to work, but not anymore. And the few times we've gone to the airport (we really try to fly out of T.F. Green in Providence/Warwick whenever possible), we take the Callahan Tunnel which has been there forever.

They were saying on the news this morning that it's only this connector tunnel that used the metal "ties" that were supposed to be holding the concrete panels in place and that it was one of those ties which gave way and caused the accident. However, the simple fact that there have been so many leaks, etc. in the tunnels is very scary. Whenever I am in the tunnels, I have to tell you there is a bit of panic and prayer that I get out quickly and safely.

Amorello is talking right now on the local Fox news.....he is saying this is the only area where these tiles were used.....they are definitely putting him through his paces.....he is answering like a typical politician....he should resign.

You are right.....Howie will have a field day with this.. I am sure even if he is on vacation, he is getting the news and will be back on track slamming MTA...Howie makes me laugh with his Whitey watch and everything else he does, however, my children do not think he is funny.....

Howie's back...I heard him yesterday.

I have no idea if I'm going to be able to get out of Boston. If traffic on 93S doesn't ease up by 3:30, I'm trapped until DH can get to me (he's coming from Reading). Plus, we're supposed to take a trip to Cambridge because my doctor moved and I have no idea where he is, so I was having DH take me on a test drive today. This stinks.
