Boston area rent?

When we left Boston/Cambridge last year, rent prices we still high. Since then, friends have told me that rents prices have been coming down. Is that true? We may be moving back there this summer so I was wondering how the rental market was looking? How much should I expect to pay for a 1 or 2 bed apartment anywhere along the T (but not so far out that we would have to use the commuter rail)?

I have been hearing the same thing from people hunting now-that the prices , if they haven't gone down, have at least stabilized.

I take it you're not a grad student so some decent 1 and 2 BRs of the quality you might be looking for are, I hear, around the 1500 to 1800/mo range(+/- $200) in Cambridge...if you are a grad student, around 1200 give or take a couple of hundred, even less if you're willing to go out to Somerville.


I can' t think of the website a friend gave me but if I come up with it, I'll post it...very good site...listings with broker's fees and without.

Oh, this friend settled on a 1 BR loft in the Fenway area for around $1200!!

You could also go "South" towards Quincy or Braintree, and that would put you on the Red Line. I will see if I can grab the Patriot Ledger Real Estate section tomorrow from my folks, and get some examples
