Boscov's Rant

We went to Boscov's yestersday to buy a screened in Gazebo. (In case anyone is wondering, Boscov's is a department store around here). The kid brings out our box, which was ripped open, and taped up. I'm a little concerned about this, but was assured everything was in there and in perfect condition. (I guess you know where this is going). This morning, my DH goes out to start assembling it. Takes everything out, one side is broken and no directions. The store doesn't open until 11, so he waits around, till 10:30, then off he goes. He calls me, after he gets there, to tell me that they sold the last one, last night. They will take apart the floor sample tomorrow and I'm to go, in the afternoon, and pick it up. OK...how am I supposed to fit a piece of aluminum that is over 6 foot long in my Corolla? He doesn't know, but that's what we're to do. They gave him instructions and he comes home. OK, back outside, back inside. Seems we're missing the base that everything gets attached to. At this point, Mr. "I have no patience" is starting to get a little aggravated. I told him to just put it all back in the box and take it back to the store. If looks could kill, I wouldn't be here typing this! So he's off, once again, to Boscov's. Did I mention how much he hates Boscov's? :D

while i usually love shopping at boscovs...this happened with my mom..i dont even remember what she was buying, but the same thing happened!!

I've been on a Boscov's boycott for YEARS. Their customer service is the pits. I fought with them for over a YEAR about a defective pair of recliners.

i saw when you guys posted that you are in nj..or philly suburbs..where else is there a boscovs? The only 2 that i know of are in moorestown mall and down in ocean county mall? thanks!

Well, he's back....with the gazebo! The kid saw the parts on the floor and was wondering where they went! DUH!!!

Blueeyes...we go to the one in Echelon Mall, in Voorhees. There is one in the Hamilton Mall, down in Pleasantville and one in the Cumberland Mall, down in Vineland. I'm not sure where the others are, but I know there's more.

Couple of years ago we bought a deck set from Boscov's. Got home and everything was black except for the table which was white. Box said it was black and had never been opened. Weird. Brought it back and they found us a black one, but they had to open several boxes to find one. All the box's said black, but most were white.

Well, he's gone again! Seems we're missing the bag of "C"s. 16 bolts & washers! He's not a happy camper! He just went to our local hardware store to buy them...$450 for a gazebo and you'd think everything would be in the box!

The Boscov's I know of is in Springfield Mall, Delaware County.

There is one at Plymouth Meeting , and I think Granite Run (media) as well. I have never really shopped at Boscov's. --the store just doesn't do anything for me.

They started in Reading where they now have three stores. They are also in Pottsville, Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, Harrisburg (x2), Pottstown, and I forget where else off the top of my head. I think they have something along the lines of forty stores now. They're the largest family owned department store chain in the country. If you don't get satisfaction, ask to see a manager. If that doesn't work call the corporate headquarters at Boscov's East in Reading a leave a message for Al Boscov. Yes, he is a real person and yes, HE does care what goes on in his stores.

And here I was tinking how much i missed having a Boscov's near me. Since i moved down to VA, i don't have any. I used to buy all kinds of stuff there, furniture included, and if i had 1, I'd be off to it tomorrow to get a decent computer desk.

And I'd call Al Boscov if i were you. No reason for you to be missing all those parts from your Gazebo kit. Good luck.

He didn't even respond to written my complaint about the recliners.

Just wanted to let everyone know...I emailed the manager and she responded within the hour with a phone call. They are shipping me the section UPS. I'm happy!

Glad to hear everyhting worked out for you. If I could talk to Al Boscov I'd ask him what's the fascination with all those mirrors and neon lighting in his stores.

I'm positive the real purpose of that store is to conduct disorientation experiments on humans.

I hate the mirrors and NEON! that is one of the reasons why I refuse to shop there! Port's (another department store) chain used to to do the same thing!

I remember a store in Trenton called Dunham's that used to do the same thing.. .

Insight -

Boscovs is now 41 stores strong with locations in NY, NJ, DE, MD and PA. I could name them all, but rather not. Go to www.boscovs.com and click stores/hours to see if one is near you.

As for Al Boscov- Yes he is a real live person, but has been less active in the company for a number of years now. If you need a problem solved, Ken Lakin is the man in charge. You can also contact Joe Fabrizio with any store complaints as he is the Director of Stores.

I'm sorry to hear so many of you have had less than pleasant experiences at Boscovs. While I shop primarily in the Reading stores (East, home Corporate HQ, my place of employment), I can only imagine what goes on elsewhere based on what I see and hear from my position.

If I can be of any assistance in regards to childrens clothing, drop me an email or PM.

P.S. I like the mirrors and neon. It reminds me where I'm shopping. :teeth: Otherwise we'd look like every other department store.

my guess is..just like any other business owner, Al doesn't have time to read all the mail....

I'd bet that if he had seen your mail he would have taken care of your problem..

I know Al and he does care very much about customer satisfaction....
