Borrowing question

Right now we have a 5 night reservation for a one bedroom and I'm thinking of adding another night in a studio. To do so would require me to borrow 7 points from my 2015 points. However we are hoping for either a waitlist to come through for the entire 6 nights or to change our reservation at the 7 month mark to one that would cost less points overall. If this happens, what happens to the "extra" borrowed points? Will DVC automatically use the borrowed points first? Just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row before I pull the trigger.

I don't count anything as automatic with DVC, what should happen often does not so you have to be on your game, keep your own records, follow up and double check.
