Borrowing points and cancellation

Hello - my DVC skills are rusty as it's been a long time since I've had to really think through a reservation. I want to get my wait list in for a reservation at BLT before the 7 month window opens up, but want to figure out the points situation before I do so.

I have 251 points available for my trip in October (our UY is August), and the reservation will be 322, so I will need to borrow 71 points. If the waitlist goes through and we get the reservation, what happens to those 71 points if I have to cancel (we'd know well before the 31 day deadline)? Do they get returned to their original use year?

If you cancel, all points are returned to the UY in which the reservation was to take place. Any banked/borrowed points will remain as banked/borrowed and will expire at the end of that UY (the one the reservation was to take place).

are you talking this OCT? Sounds like you want a lot of days for the waitlist for 322 pts. This is F&WF time . Good luck but it will be tough to get BLT for a long stay.

If you bank or borrow, you morph the points into the UY that you move them to. Banking 2013 points makes them 2014 points. Borrowing 2015 points into 2014 makes them 2014 points. Points can only be banked or borrowed once and they expire at the end of the UY that they were moved to.

For a LV there are only 2 days that need to be waitlisted actually (I'm going to try for Standard and be a rebel, even though 5 of the 11 nights need to be waitlisted currently). I was very surprised. The 322 is for the entire 11 night stay, not just the waitlisted days.

I've had luck with waitlists before that I thought would be unheard of, so we'll see. I'm holding out hope that some people may be transferring their reservations to BWV/BCV for F&W and cancelling their home resort reservations at BLT. We're always happy to stay at OKW, which I've never had trouble booking at 7 months regardless, but since we'll have a 2 month old with us we're really hoping we can stay on the monorail!
