The thing is Non-Kosher does not mean *unclean*...That's just a small part of Kosher laws... G-d also told the Jews that the covenant and the laws were eternal..There were no qualifications for that
I agree on both points, but cleanliness is part of the Kosher laws. I also agree that God's first covenant was eternal, that much is very clear. But Isaiah speaks of a New Covenant to be written on our hearts. Whether or not you understand that covenant to be Christianity, it is clear that God was going to introduce something new. Now a new Covenenant means new rules, it has to or it would be the same old covenant. Peter never said the Old Covenant was invalid. Far from it, he was raised to follow the Law. The was made quite clear when he refused to eat what God told him to eat. God never said the old rules no longer applied under the old Covenant, but in this case he makes it clear that at least these rules regarding the cleanlyness of animals no longer apply to Peter. The only explantion is a New Covenant.

This was the first of many such adjustments. Peter. through council with Paul, driopped the Curcumcism requirement as well. They were many who insisted that one could only be a Christian if one was a Jew. They fought allowing Gentiles being brought in.

The fact is the First Christians were Jews, and they came to accept a new covenant. NOWHERE however, did they claim the old one was ended or changed. Jesus implied that the Spirit of the Law had been lost in the legalism that grew from the law, but he never claimed that covenant had been voided. He simply claimed that he fullfilled the law, allowing a New Covenant to begin and with it, new laws.

Regarding the Heathen thread, I think most of the people there are simply being honest about what they feel. Yes, the sarcastic humor can seem demeaning, but if you get a chance to get to know most of the folks who use such humor, you will usually discover that they don't mean to deeply insult. Those of faith approach the world very differently than those who do not beleive in God. This leads to a very different understanding (or misunderstandings) of the things that motavates both groups, and the misunderstandings sometimes lead to sarcasm.

In short, I don't see it as warfare. Rather I see it as a chance for us to understand each other, and that is the most important componant of loving each other, which in turn is what Jesus tells us is one of the most important things we can do.
Woo Hoo! As usual Hound, you know just how to explain things!!!! :teacher:

I don't think Albertan Mom was saying the posters are engaging in warfare but that Satan is waging a battle here and I agree wholeheartedly with her. I think that right now in our world, there are many battles for our souls going on. That has always been the case but it sure seems worse lately.

A.M. forgive me for speaking for you and if that is not what you meant, please correct me. I love the idea of praying for someone. (But don't tell them you are as that really ticks some of those folks off! ;) )

Exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you so much for your support. :) I have been feeling very bad the last few days. I was so excited to see this thread, and because I obviously wasn't saying things in the exact right way, I was not getting my point across the way I wanted to. I have been getting criticized and even talked about on the other threads! I realized last night that I shouldn't even go into those other threads, and I will just stay here, where I can hopefully feel encouraged.
Thanks again disneymom3

I hope my post did not make you feel bad. I did understand that you were refering to spritual warfare. I guess I just see it more as communication. A bit rough around the edges and a little rough and tumble perhaps, but its still communication.

Reading that thread helps me to rememebr that there are people out there who don't see the Christianity I see and experience to be real everyday. There are people who distrust the Church or organized religion, when I know from working in my church that Service to our fellow man and God is the only reason we exist as the Church. I have seen The Church do wonderful, unselfish things, but they have seen The Church rip people off. Clearly not all Churches are the same and this has led to different preconceptions.

Some on the other thread see prayer as a wish list, when the fact is I rarely ask for anything specific when I pray. Some there see relighion as a fear of death, when in fact I understand true Christianity to be about walking with God TODAY, bringing about the Kingdom of Heaven TODAY, serving those in need TODAY and sharing God's love TODAY. Christianity is more about the here and now than it is about eternity, for in reality eternity is nothing but an endless succession of here and nows. Enternity has already begun, and we can experience God right now. It is, above all, it is about knowing God TODAY.

Some see worship as a group of people stroking God's ego, when in fact worship is for us, not God. Worship allows us to internalize the magnitude of God, the value of the gift he gave us, the poweer of his love for us. We worship God becuase it draws us closer to God, not because God is fishing for complements. Worship is a tool from God to draw us closer to him.

Many of the people on the the other thread have not encountered any of the ideas in a real, tangible way, so it seems fake to them. In many cases, they don;t even understand that this is what Christians beleive. It makes no sense becuase to them, its simply not real to them, and how could it be if they have never encountered it? We on the other hand expereicne these things as being the most real, most pecious things in our lives, so we have a hard time hearing someone joke about them. To make matters worse, many Christians can be a bit obnoxious at times (the story about the lady in the wheel chair shows that), and these are the Christians that get noticed. These are the Christian which become fertile ground for the jokes and derision.

The miscommunication is rampant in both directions. The points of view are so different. Threads such as these help to ease this a bit by letting us to see the world through the other guys eyes, to understand a bit about their motavations, and that is never a bad thing.

As much as I believe in spiritual warfare and see it around me, to say it is going on because people are questioning beliefs and calling a thread "godless heathens" is WAY OUT THERE FOR ME.

You say tomato, I say tamato!

What I meant is: Satan is having a heyday here. He is loving seeing the "Christians" and "Non-Christians" at odds with each other. He loves seeing people admit that they think there is no God. He loves when people admit to being atheist, or calling Christians hypocritical judgemental people. He loves when people say they think prayer is pointless and useless.... Satan is loving all this! (that is what I meant by warfare-maybe I don't know the correct literal definition of it-I will look it up)

The OP started this thread (from what I understand-correct me if I am wrong) for BACs to encourage each other. Fellowship with each other. A safe place for Christians to come and talk about God and problems and ask for prayer, or talk about Christian literature, songs, bibles, music, websites, studies etc... Not a place for debates or snippy comments about things that were said in other threads. A place to hang out and feel you are with people with the same beliefs as you. (at least that is what I thought it was for..)

I am sorry if I caused some of these debates, snippy comments etc...
Like I said before, I am done debating, I want to feel good and happy on this thread, not beat up, criticized and sad!
I will continue to pray for it though, and the non-christians on that 'other' thread. :)

Please don't leave. You have offended no one here and we are not trying to debate you. You are a Christian, This is a thread about the veiws and beleifs of Christians. We would be poorer without your views.

Agreed. I was simply pointing out that there have been some who have visited this thread questioning some things, and they were turned away for "debating". I just don't see anything wrong with some good ole questioning (with reagard to the "heathen" thread). :)

Thanks Hound!

I will stick around, as I love to read about the lives of other Christians. Love to hear about their prayer lives, tithing, struggles, answered prayer, needed prayer, good books they suggest and more!

as the person who did start this thread, you are correct about my motivation for begining this thread. I also agree about the warfare you speak of. Satan stalks the earth looking for souls he can devour. that means he cant devour any soul. so I am sure he loves that heathen thread. In any case, I hope you will stay, because I have read your posts and you are the type of B/C christian I began this thread for !! I soon will have no other choice than to ask people to leave if they continue questioning Born again beliefs. everyone who comes to this thread should have belief of Christianity in their heart or be open to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Personally, I suspect some of the heathens may come here to start trouble. In any case, I may have to resort to taking down posts and warning people about the rules of this board.

Gosh, I wish everyone on the other thread would read this one post, WDWHound. Thanks for saying so many true and wonderful things.

While all that makes Satan happy, so does a Christian who says very unChrist comments. Not that you have said anything wrong. I just think we should be very careful of how we reepresent Christ on this thread.

I have "known" the OP of the Heathen thread for 5 years--since 2000, Jenz and I have posted together. It is that way for a lot of the people on that other thread and me. I may be a crazy Christian on an Internet BB to them but Jenz and others are real people to me and I really don't want to be the one responsible for turning them off. Like I said, she may think I'm nutty but in reality, those Internet friendships are very real to me.

Ack I am soooo many pages behind. 1)The "heathens" thread is actually an thread open to all faith-based discussion. I find that I am more comfortable in that thread than this one even though I am born again. 2)For an example, Septbride2002(Amanda) posted on this thead with some questions, she was pretty much turned away for asking her questions. Pray all you want, but when others act the way they did to her, what is the point? 3) There are always all kinds of thread on this board.

actually, it beyond simple questions and nobody asked her to leave. I posted a general post, naming noone and asked respectfully for people to remember to purpose for this thread I began. 1) to fellowship, 2) to witness 3) to provide testimony to others. It is not to debate or discuss heathens, jewish dietary laws or to confront Born again Christians about some need to prove their faith. If one cant live with these rules, then start your own thread, find another to threat to post the posts that arent appropriate here. I am sorry if this seems direct or unkind, but posters here are getting out of hand, so I do what I have to do. everyone please continue enjoying the thread. thanks.

Well, I'm sure I'm not the only one this bothers. You can do what you want but asking people to leave doesn't sound too good to me. If someone posts on this thread, something other than what you want them to say, that is just the way Internet BBs go (IMHO). That person may have some valid questions and comments. Sure, people should play nice & I personally think that is what they were doing when they started the other thread instead of posting on this one which in my 5 years of expereince of being on the CB, could have easily happened. Once you start a thread, you don't really own it or control it. I suppose you can ask for it to be closed if that is your wish.
I've enjoyed this thread. I like sharing and asking and being answered. Well, whatever you'd like this thread to be or become, I hope it follows your wishes.

I see. I'll be stepping away and hoping everyone continues to enjoy this thread. I can't promise not to get off desired topics as things just come up and are asked or commented on (like the dietary law question--interesting BTW).

I dont want it to become a place where people argue and fight with each other and I think you are out of line with your comments inferring that someone is being un christian. as the OP I will be forced to ask people to leave if they dont obey the RULES OF THE THREAD !! I think you are a good person so please go easy.

I didn't say anyone was being unChristian. I said I think we should be careful.

Hi everyone! I am hopelessly behind on reading this (and several other threads), but I wanted to check in. Who's going to worship in church tomorrow? I'll be in church (preaching even).

I will be going to the 8:30am Contemporary service, and then will be spending some time with my mentor who is teaching me ASL. Can't wait!
