I di realize that you are doing what you are doing with the best of intentions.. Like I said prayers are good..Prayers of Health ,I can always use.. I do have problems with people praying I become another religion. And there are lots of Christians already posting on that thread.

we are christians, and this is a born again christian thread, many of US pray that those who are Lost find Jeusus Christ (and become saved). this is not becoming another religioin, its becoming Christian (in our View, anyway) and is done with the best of intentions, but you may be on the wrong thread here if you so strongly object to that, because I sure people are praying for this whether you are aware of it or not.

is also a good search engine for Bible verses.
I LOVE BIble gateway. 20 different translations right at your fingertips, and its free!. I use it alot when preparing sermons, especially the Youngs Literal translation. Its very hard to read, but it really tries to preserve tenses and word usage found in the original Hebrew and makes a great touchstone for the Old Testament. I can look up the passage I am using in all of the different versions quickly and easily, and therefore work to avoid misunderstandings caused by inaccurate translations.

The NIV even has audio availble on the site, The reader is a tad dramtic and the music in the background is way over the top, but sometimes its useful just to hear the word spoken.

Wow, there is some big spiritual warfare going on on this Forum!
I have only been on the DIS for a couple of monthes, but has this ever happened before? I saw a thread on "Salvation question", then one on "Born again-what does that mean?", "Oijua boards" and of course the "Heathen thread"

I think the Heathen thread was made to mock this thread. But after reading a few pages of it, I see that there are people on there that are really searching. Lots of confusion. Lots of people have a bad taste in their mouths for Christians. Lots of questions. They are searching! So I am asking this. I would like every "Born Again Christian" on this thread to pray for one "Heathen" (their words-not mine!) Pick one person and pray for that person every day. Pray that they will get the answers they are looking for. Pray that they will be touched by a Christian person. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in their lives. Pray! Whenever they come to mind. And with prayer, I am hoping that they will one day come over and join our thread as a new "born again Christian!"
Thank you my brothers and sisters in Christ! :grouphug:

Who knew that this Forum would become a place to hopefully witness! :flower:

What is ammusing to me is that SOME of us tried to post here and were frozen out. Not eveyone on that thread is a Godless Heathen and it was not started to mock this thread - but to give us an openly place to talk about how we feel about our religions.

Personally I would prefer someone who thinks that AIDS is to punish the wicked to pray for themselves rather then for me.

Ack! Ok guys. Both threads have said things that the posters on the other threads don't like or see as insulting, but that was not the intent of either thread. If we snipe at each other, we'll just end up derailing both threads. I'm not a mod, nor do I play one on TV, but I would really hate to see that happen.

WDWhound, LOL!!!! ROFL!!!! :rotfl2:

I agree!!! Let's not derail these threads and have them closed!!!

And, about the "Aids is a way to punish the wicked...." WOW!!! :earseek:
That is SO not what Christian's are all about here. As Christians, we believe that we are ALL sinners... each and every one of us... God is NOT about punishment!!!! Christianity is not about Punishment!!! Christianity is all about forgiveness and salvation. There may a very few 'professed' Christians who may say or think such a thing. But this is SO contrary to what we are all about!!!!

And, as far as praying for others. Many Christians do. Look at it this way. Let's say you won the multi-million dollar lottery. You feel SO lucky and SO blessed... You know what a wonderous and positive thing has happened to you... Would you not want to wish such good fortune for others? Would you not want to 'share' your wonderful news.

Ok,just so I'm not being misunderstood.. I like prayer..Most prayers.I have asked for them on here , and continue to ask for them for my health etc. What I'm asking is that people do not pray for me to come to Jesus..I'm quite happy and fulfilled within Judaism..Now I can't control anyones thought. If people are goin to pray that I find Jesus, they are going to pray that I find Jesus.I'm asking respectfully that you don't.. After that,I can't do anything. I have no issue at all with any other sort of prayers coming my way

THANK you! That needed saying.

A thought, however.

Many things are sins; eating shellfish is one of them. Being the modern day, is this still viewed as a sin or as a warning to the people of that time over the unhealthy ramifications of eating such a food when cleanliness was NOT the new black?

If it is a sin and has been specifically labelled as such, why do we still eat it? Is it really fair to say that because we are all sinners that one more can't hurt?

My particular partition of the Christian faith regards the passages on shellfish and like ones as appropriate for the time due to person cleanliness reasons, much like circumcision and the restrictions on eating pork.

What do you all think in relation to such obscure sins?

Jenny,

As you can see by my example, the analogy is that Christians do sometimes pray for others to know (or come to) Christ... The analogy between coming to know Christ and coming into a multi-million dollars is exactly what I intended. Not just prayers in general.

I know that it might be easy for others to see this in a judgemental manner... I mean, they might feel that Christians who openly do this are seeing fault in them and making a judgement that they are sinners who NEED saved... etc... etc... (and it is true that there may some misguided Christians who might be a little this way....) But, in my example, it is very clear that this is not about judgement at all. I mean, should a person be judged because they have not also won the lottery??? NO! Christians 'share', and 'pray', because we feel to share the wondrous thing that we experience.

As far as those who would use their 'Religion' to judge others.... This is very very sad. :sad2: As the previous poster posted the Scripture that says that, not every man who says 'Lord, Lord' is saved.... That is what is so important about the concept of being Born-again. Only then, when, not by words, but by our hearts, we accept the Lord, giving up our own thoughts and judgements, and then the scales are removed from our eyes so that we can begin to see things as God sees them!

And, this all pulls together with your comments, DC2000....
Yes, in Judaism, there are very important commands regarding foods, etc.... However, this is not directly related to Salvation. Jesus states very clearly that it is NOT what enters the mouth, but what comes from the mouth (ex. judgmental words) that defileth a man!!!

Wow, deep stuff!!!!

I've never looked at it like that!

Deep indeed!

There is also Peters Vision (Acts 10:9-16):
"9About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." 14"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." 15The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." 16This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven."

Many interpret this vision as a release for Christians from the dietary laws of the Jews.

That's really scary - I just hopped onto the DIS to ask why Christians don't have the dietary laws that Judaism does!

Scary...

When I was a teenager, my grandmother would say to me, "Don't get into any cars with those Hippies!" Now I was a teen in the eighties, long past the days of the hippies. Did I take my grandmother at face value and think to myself, well, there are no hippies any more, Grandma is sure behind the times? Or did I think to myself, wow, she is worried about me and she wants me to make the right choices when she is not there to guide me personally?

Grandma really didn't mean don't get into any cars with those hippies. What she meant was- bad things happen to good people sometimes, so do everything you can in your power to prevent a bad thing from happening to you.

Whether or not to eat shellfish, or get into a car with those hippies, the message behind it is the same. Times have changed and the risks are different, but the urge to protect is there all the same.

There is another simple answer..Jewish law is for Jews.

In short, I don't see it as warfare. Rather I see it as a chance for us to understand each other, and that is the most important componant of loving each other, which in turn is what Jesus tells us is one of the most important things we can do.

I don't think Albertan Mom was saying the posters are engaging in warfare but that Satan is waging a battle here and I agree wholeheartedly with her. I think that right now in our world, there are many battles for our souls going on. That has always been the case but it sure seems worse lately.

A.M. forgive me for speaking for you and if that is not what you meant, please correct me. I love the idea of praying for someone. (But don't tell them you are as that really ticks some of those folks off! ;) )

Yes, but Peter was a Jew, as were all 12 of the Disciples. and at the time Peter had the vision, he saw Christianity as part of Judeaism. This is why he said he would not eat anything unclean and God had to tell him 3 times that it was OK. Later, this same vision helped Peter to understand the the New Covenant was also open to Gentiles, an idea which Peter had not yet completely accepted.

The thing is Non-Kosher does not mean *unclean*...That's just a small part of Kosher laws... G-d also told the Jews that the covenant and the laws were eternal..There were no qualifications for that
Edited to add. I'm sorry. I've hijacked your thread, and I'm sorry..Bowing out..We can always discuss this somewhere else

Ack I am soooo many pages behind. 1)The "heathens" thread is actually an thread open to all faith-based discussion. I find that I am more comfortable in that thread than this one even though I am born again. 2)For an example, Septbride2002(Amanda) posted on this thead with some questions, she was pretty much turned away for asking her questions. Pray all you want, but when others act the way they did to her, what is the point? 3) There are always all kinds of thread on this board.
