Do you buy bootlegg movies and if so what was the last one that you have seen. I'm thinking about getting Jet Lee's new one, Fearless.I know that it is due out next week but I can get a copy today.

GO FOR IT!!! GET IT!! And while your at it don't forget to post your address when you invite us all over to watch it!

I wouldn't admit to those sorts of things on a board like this without expecting to :stir: . Maybe you should do a poll! :rotfl2:

I'm just kidding with you! But really, I hope you are expecting some lectures!

I wonder if it'll be decent quality since it was probably recorded by some idiot holding a camcorder in a movie theater.

No lectures, but I never would. It is stealing.

That is how I feel.

One of my siblings however makes a habit of copying them off the internet and giving them to my son. I will admit I let him keep them, I really don't know what to do in that situation. I don't want DS having a bad opinion of my sibling, but at the same time I kind of cringe whenever I put the DVD in the player because I just don't feel right about it.

Nope, my brother works in the movie/tv industry as a costumer. I know it takes from the people that have worked long and hard on these movies. Even months at a time away from home, they work long hours and work their hardest to be barely acknowledged and yes it is stealing.

No, I do not knowingly break the law or do harm to others. What is the point?

:sad2:

I did download a movie once and it was such bad quality that I still ended up seeing the movie. I don't think bootlegging is good, but I don't buy the argument that it hurts the crew. Are you telling me they only get a paycheck once the movie has hit the theatres? Why would you work for months on something only to be paid based on the success? But if bootlegging causes fewer people to go to the movies, then fewer movies may be made and it could trickly down. I also don't really see the point...half the fun for me is seeing the movie on a massive screen.

So, if fewer movies are being made how is that not hurting the crew? That would mean less jobs out there for the people who make a relative less amount than the stars who are in the movie.
No, they do not get paid only once when the movie is done. They get paid throughout. Just like any other job. But, each movie has a budget. If they go over the budget than crewmembers get fired.
They get money for the movies that are made from previous makings of a movie. If the previous movie made alot of money it leaves for more of a budget for the next movie.

I've seen a few of those. Ones that were obviously recorded with a camcorder in the back. The quailty is horrible. So given that, I wouldn't do it. But I do think over time, the studios are catching on that the price of movies and DVDs are overpriced. Just look at what's happened to music. They will eventually get it.

I know the perception that something is overpriced isn't justification for stealing, but it does explain it.

the movie will be released on the 22nd of sept. so it will not been done by a camcorder. I saw part of the movie and it is the actual screener cut that the sudios send out so that it can be viewed by the critics and such. This guy has had a copy for over 2 weeks now . I guess the folks that really would buy the movie would not respond to this thread.

IMO there are some "bootlegs" out there that are acceptable. Copies of something a studio refuses to release.

Song of the South is a good example. Until last week, the actual original Star Wars trilogy fell under that defintion as well.

Don't have any movies, but I have to admit that I have one of a broadway play and even though the quality is far less than stellar, I love my little bootleg copy. :thumbsup2

So I guess I'll admit to being Wicked right along with ya. ;)

I think you're right. I've never downloaded a movie, and I'd think that bootlegging a current or recent run movie is indeed theft. I download a lot of music but I either pay for it piecemeal, by subscription or it is truely public domain (a lot of Classical Music is public domain). But, I have 2 or 3 dozen bootleg LPs from the 60's and 70's that are recordings that would never have got released anyway - studio outtakes, poor recordings of live performances (mostly Beatles and Hendrix). IMO, those bootlegs help keep up the demand for the licensed version anyway. A stolen master tape of a release album selling cheap takes away from the artists/workers and is theft, but rehearsal sessions for a song that never got released are probably another matter.

Yep. I have the Song of the South one. If it was ever released for real I would buy it, but I doubt that will ever happen.

so, I should spend about $50 to take my family to the show, because buying the movie for $5 is stealing.? I guess the oil companies and retail stores owers never sleep at night. We would be more willing to cheat on our taxes than to buy a bottlegg movie? How many people drive 35mph in a school zone. The spend limit is only 20mph. The risk of hurting a child is greater I believe. I think we can find a lot of ways that people can and will break the "law" but doe it make me a bad person. Sometimes I mmay order a kids meal to save money, is that wrong to?
