Booster Seats on the Plane

Hi Everyone,

Can you bring a booster seat on the plane? I will need one for my daughter and they are charging $10 to get one with the car rental. Thats $80 USD! I would just like to bring my own. Anyone know anything about this?

We bring ours along on the plane, this last trip to Colorado the grouchy flight attendant yelled at us about it not being legal for the kids to sit in it on the plane though, so we had to put it in the overhead storage bin. You are allowed to have them sit in a car seat, not a booster seat apparently.

You can box or bag it and check it through with your checked luggage or you can bring it to the aircraft and stow it in the overhead compartment.

You can only use a carseat on the aircraft if it has a sticker on the seat that clearly states it is approved for use in aircraft. Since a true booster seat needs a lap/shoulder belt to be effective and aircraft only have lap belts boosters are not approved for airline use.

My DD used an "airline approved" full 5 point buckle car seat for the first few years. She is now in a booster, so we just check it with the rest of the baggage. I don't bag it or anything, just put a name tag on it and toss it in with the rest of the luggage. It has to be in our car on the way to the airport and it has to be in the car there, so no biggie bringing it along!

They make special bags for your seat, but my son won't be using the booster much longer, so I didn't want to buy one. I lucked into a golf bag cover at a yard sale for a dollar that barely fit one of our three booster seats. We just checked the seat with the rest of the luggage. The bag had the advantage of some extra space, so we wound up with dirty clothes in it on the way back.

The bad news was that the airline delayed all the bags on the way home, so we had no seat for DS to ride home from the airport in. They gave us the only loaner they had in baggage claim, but it really didn't fit him.

I presume you mean $10 per day for $80 total ?? Most of the car rental places have a maximum that they charge for the whole rental. For our trip I reserved with Alamo for 2 weeks and it was 49.95 for a toddler seat or booster seat for the whole rental period. Some of the rental sites are not clear on this and just say $10 per day.

We took ours 1 booster and 1 car seat. Since there was 2 I bought the car seat bag and put both in.... For the flight down we checked the booster and used the car seat.... on the way back we checked both.

It was such a pain trying to lug that car seat around the airport. I opted to bring ours because of the cost factor of the rental seats and the whole germ factor of other seats..... Ewwww!

We have three in booster seats, and on our last trip we gate checked our booster seats. We could have checked them as luggage, but I knew we would be in trouble when we got to our destination if they lost those, so I thought it would safer to take them to the gate. The flight attendants didn't mind one bit. Our booster seats are not FAA approved.
