We are planning in August trip and right now I can get a room at Movies on Orbitz at the Sun and Fun room offer and then there is a 10% off code that it is allowing me to stack. Its saving about $60. Is there any reason not to book thru Orbitz? Anyone done it or have a code greater than 10% they would be wiling to share?

I've got a couple of the Chase credit cards, if I book with one of those can I get 2x points for travel as well?

Thanks in advance!

I've booked with Orbitz a few times and have had no problem. It's been a few years though. Back when I did it, you only did the adults (because Orbitz added a fee for additional guests), and then called them to add the kids (at no charge). I don't know if this has changed or not, so I would check to see if the price is the same for two adults or your whole travel party.

Orbitz codes as travel in my experience for Chase so you will get the 2x points.

There are lots of horror stories about booking with on line travel agents such as Expedia and Orbits. So you are taking your chances. Better to make the actual booking directly with the hotel or airline or whatever.

Problems have included double billing, rooms inferior to what was described, difficulties making changes or cancellations, even totally lost reservations. Next thing you know the hotel and the agency just point fingers at each other.

I've booked Disney rooms with Orbitz many times (as recently as last year) and it's gone very smoothly. It has coded as travel on my credit card. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the price was right.

I've used Orbitz a few times, no issues. Only downside to me was paying all of it upfront at time of booking. Upside was the Orbitz rewards program where I got a touch back and it was immediately available for use (haven't used them in some time so idk if that's how the program still works). Make sure you review the cancellation policy in case there is a charge to cancel.

It will code as travel so as long as you're talking a Chase card that has 2x on travel category then yes you'll get 2x UR on your booking.

This was a concern of mine. I'm assuming though that after I book and link it to Disney's website, then it will show up in their system and I should have verification then, correct?

I have done it twice and would do it again. Last time was in March.

I have had no issues.

However I have to save a good amount to make it worth its both times I’ve had to call to link it etc, and it can be a bit annoying.

Yes you link it, But remember it same as booking with a TA you don’t ‘own’ the reservation orbitz does.

2 more questions going through Orbitz...we have an infant. They are only allowing me to book 2 kids in our room, where Disney lets me book 3 since one of them is a baby. I don't know that it really matters but we will be using ME from the airport so I don't want them to question us showing up with 5 people. Do I call Orbitz or Disney to add the infant? Second, I'm wanting to make a BBB boutique reservation for our daughter. When I call in, they will ask for the reservation number and typically want a zip code for the reservation. When I had a TA, I had to give them the TA info. So do I give them my info or Orbitz?

When I booked via orbitz I did two adults, then when I called orbitz to like the reservation I added the kid(s). I would try to add when you call to link. Side note if you get someone at orbitz who doesn’t know what your asking hang up and call back. First person I had in March wasn’t helpful, 2nd person was very helpful.

As for BBB I’ve never needed to give my reservation number for BBB unless your booking more then 180 days in advance so in your 180+days of stay window. I would wait till the reservation is linked and then give them the info so they can look it up. But this I have never done, so not 100% sure that’s right.

The last time I booked with Orbitz, I then called Disney Wholesale (the group that deals with 3rd party reservations) at 407-939-7671 to get the Disney reservation number so I could link it to MDE. When I went into the reservation on MDE, the address for magic band shipping was the Orbitz headquarters reservation so I changed that to our home address. Disney Wholesale also was able to add our daughter to our reservation and set up ME for me. I think once you link the reservation in MDE and change the address, you can give BBB your home zip code for the reservation.

:thumbsup2

I agree. Our 3nt stay in DLR (GCH) was over $1800 for 4 adults. (Both kids are now > 18). I used Orbitz enough times for WDW to know how easy it is once you get minor kids on with no extra charges. That's usually the biggest hassle that is different than booking direct.

They give you 2 confirmation numbers: one is the Orbitz res # and the other is what you enter into MDE. Never had a problem with our rooms, res, etc once it's in MDE.
In fact our GCH stay had a view of the Grizzly Bear water ride (I forget the name of it.) We could see the boats go past and hear people scream. :teeth: It's not like they stuck us way out in left field with a view of the dumpster. I wouldn't hesitate to book through them again. Lots of people use TAs. It would be foolish for Disney to mistreat those folks imho. I think the Orbitz discount is now maxed at $150 which really stinks. Also I've been on their email list for years and lately they only have been offering 10% off. Maybe people were becoming annoyed when enticed with 20% offer, which is pretty substantial on a deluxe, only to be told near the end of the transaction the discount is capped. A little disappointing.

I'd rather pay it all up front than pay more overall. Usually there's no cancellation fee unless it's within 5 days of check in which is equal to Disney's policy. For a while there was rumors about them charging $25 to cancel so double check it before you book.
Yes, my Chase card earned double points for it.
