I've had my Visa for years but have never done this. I'd like to book a trip and take advantage of the interest free financing but have a couple of questions.

Can I book a discounted package with this offer? What about with an AP discount? I have an annual pass but everyone else would need tickets.

Who do I book through? Is it possible to book online?

Thanks!

Jennifer

I just (unfortunately) found out yesterday that only your PACKAGE is covered 6 months interest free. We just got back from our DCL cruise and none of our shipboard charges (including our rebooking deposit) are considered interest free, so watch out.

I'm worried. We are going down in October. We are DVC members, so our room is covered. I'm wondering now if our dining plan and tickets are going to be interest free or not.

Ok, you guys need to help me out here, I am new to the Disney Visa and confused!!! Are you sure you don't get the 0% interest on the re-booking credit? We went on the Dream in May, re-booked while onboard and I just got my Disney Visa statement today and that credit is listed under the 0% no interest for 6 months promo. This was my first time using the promo, am I reading something wrong?

My cruise deposit (although not a rebooking onboard) was interest free for 6 mths also.:confused3

Do be careful with this. I've heard others say they play funny with how they apply your payments to your account in the mean time. I can't recall, but maybe put them toward this part of your balance first since it's 0%, leaving any other balance you might have to accrue their high interest charges.

I think those new credit card laws require them to apply the payments to the hightest interest rate first, so that took care of that sneaky little problem.

However, if you have more than one balance at 0%, for example in May you put down your deposit for your August WDW trip (0% would expire in Nov), and then in July you put down a deposit on a December cruise (0% expiring in Jan) , they allegedly apply payment to the most recent charge, thus causing the 0% on the first charge to expire and start accruing interest.

I have not had more than one Disney balance at a time yet, so I can't say, but that is what I have read on the DIS.

I have a DV. I use it a lot but mostly for my trip.

The first part of what you said it true. Anything I charge, outside of a disney travel package will have payments applied to it first. So I need to take that into consideration when using my card and making my payments.

The second part of what you said is not at all true. I "make payments" to the trip each month using my DV (so I have multiple 0% interest periods) On my statement it shows the expiration date of each payment. I assume that they keep each one on for the entire year. I have a total of 9 right now with all but 1 having a 0 balance(well, 2 on my last statement... but I think I have made 2 payments since the statement and so the one that had a $14 balance I am certain is at 0 now.) Each month the balance that I have carried the longest goes down and the most recent stays the same.

I have never paid a penny of interest... I have a spreadsheet that I use to help me calculate how much payment I have to make based on what I have charged for the trip and what I have charged outside of that. It seems to work well for me.

If you have an AP discount with any kind of dining plan added to it then it is considered a package and you would pay the balance 45 days before you arrive and get the 6 months of no interest.....

Thanks so much lovloopingbag! That's something I really wanted to know!

Do I book just like regular and it will automatically be at the 0% interest charge?

We're currently renovating a rental house and I'm using that Visa for expenses so that I can get the points. I'm paying with the Visa and then immediately paying it off. Can I still do this with our trip on there or will my payments go toward the trip? Do you designate the payments somehow?

Thanks for the help, I'm no good with finance!

That's great. Mine did not show up that way. I even called about it. Maybe I'll call back and talk to someone else.

My understanding of the new law is that if you pay only the minimum payment, that goes to your lower interest first. Anything above and beyond the minimum payment goes toward your higher interest charges.

All I know is that my payment goes toward paying anything that would have interest accrue on it.... then to my oldest 0% balance offer, leaving my newest one with the least being applied toward.

Your payments will go to what would have the highest interest first. At least this is what I am seeing each month. I too use my DV to get points... so I use it for non trip stuff. Then I pay all of those charges each month + the amount I want to put toward my vacation. I carry only a balance on the disney vacation. I do nothing to have the payment allocated in that way.

I meant to post a much more detailed explanation of what I have done, last night... but dis went down for maintenance. You seem to have had most of your questions answered, but... I will go ahead and paste what I was going to post in here... just in case.

It has to be a full package... I am not entirely sure how to do it if one of you does not need tickets. Hmmm... I bet you would have to do a "package" with everyone getting a single day ticket (including you) and then you could buy the rest of their tickets separately.

As I mentioned in my previous post... the financed amount can be small too.

Maybe to better help explain I will tell you what I did this time. (last trip, I didn't call to book, I booked online using a public discount offer)

I received a pin code (so a discount). I called 407WDISNEY to book a MYW Package + Dinning. I put down only the $200 deposit. That deposit was then at 0% for 6 months. At the start of each month, I use my DV to "pay down" the balance owed to WD Travel Co. Each month that payment shows on my statement as from Disney Rsort -WDTC and is added to my list of 0% promotional financing. (I did book an extra night as a room only reservation, but that shows up a bit different on the statement and is NOT at 0%)

I figure this way I can stretch my 0% since WD Travel does not need full payment until the 45 day mark (so when I booked in January, I had until the end of October to pay on a trip for December.. all at 0%) Then I will use my DV to pay the balance come my 45 day mark and that will be my last 0% period. So that will give me from 1/2011 to the end of April 2012 at 0% for the entire trip. Had I just put the entire thing on my DV at the time of booking I would have only had 0% until July 2011

I am not sure if this helps... but... :upsidedow

Thank you sooo much annmarieda! This is exactly what I needed to know and thanks for the tip about booking the package with one day tickets:)

I think it would work that way. I know when AP people want fd, often they have to add a one (or two) day ticket to their package in order to get it. If you call to book I would just confirm with the cm that it is a "package" you are booking. My experience with the cms is that they don't really have a clue when it comes to the DV 0%.... so if you ask about that you may not get a helpful answer. There is a down side to buying the one day ticket. It is not a lot less than a 7 or 8.. etc. So while it wouldn't be bad to add your one day on and then use your AP... the other people traveling with you would be paying essentially twice.

You will not get the deal for the purchase of tickets and dining plans as we don't purchase them as part of a WDTC package. The only benefit for DVC is the 6 months, 0% interest on the purchase of points.
